CeaseFire Cash Runs Out
- A CeaseFire office in North Lawndale has closed its doors after a $ 1 million dollar grant from the city was exhausted.
The grant was part of Mayor Rahm Emanuel's efforts in 2012 to decrease violence on the South and West sides of the city and funded offices in North Lawndale and Woodlawn.
The organization uses "Violence Interrupters," most of whom are former gang members, to return to the streets in an effort to stop neighborhood violence. The office provided jobs for individuals, often with criminal records.
And a quick way to launder $1 million into Lord knows what. No oversight, no accounting, no requirement to assist the police, and completely made-up-bullshit statistics like this:
- Under the grant, CeaseFire reported 141 potentially fatal conflicts were resolved in the past year city-wide, and services were provided to 75 high risk participants in North Lawndale.
There's Garry's entire drop in homicides people.....plus a few extra in case anyone was counting. By the way, we stopped over 372 homicides this past summer just by driving in circles around the VRI boxes. And while we didn't get a million dollars, our personal stats have just as much basis in reality as CeaseFire's, so maybe Rahm ought to come up with a raise for us. And here's the extent of the oversight for $1 million:
- 24th Ward Alderman Michael Chandler, whose ward includes North Lawndale, said he was unaware the funding for CeaseFire had stopped, but hopes it will be restored.
The aldercreature was "unaware" that the million dollars had been burned up - and when we say burned, we mean literally "lit on fire" because the same results would have been evident. No accounting whatsoever.

Off Topic and FYI...Illinois Supreme Court found big part of Agg UUW statute unconstitutional yesterday. Found this out from Felony Review last night. Not a breath about it in local news. Specifically 24-1.6 (a)(1),(a)(3)(A)was stricken as infringing on a citizen's right to self-defense outside of home. It's still a felony if the offender did not have a FOID card. The case is People vs Aguilar.
He's just planting the seed for another million bucks to be given away to the gangsters via "ceasefire".
Remember, he's got 18 months till the next election.
Ceasefire cash will ensure the gangsters get out the vote.
This is Mayor Emmanuel's own version of fast and furious. They know where the money is going to go. They know that the money will be diverted to guns, dope and gangs. Thus they create more violence and then the Democrats can say "see, there is so much violence, we need to ban guns".
They should rename CeaseFire Get Out the Gang Banging Vote because that is all this was. A bribe to get the ones responsible for most of the mayhem and carnage in this city to vote for 9.5.

We had to account for every penny spent each month in a report. Furthermore, each expenditure had to be submitted and approved first. Ceasefire should have been held to the same standards.

Those things are only required if the grantor stipulates it. Since Rahm basically made this (payoff) a gift, don't hold your breath waiting for receipts.

How about a forensic audit of the public money. Lets see how wisely the money is spent. No execuses please. This program is run by a U of I professor who is above average in intelligence and understands the administrative regulations associated with these grants. I'm sure this organization has been keeping records as required by law. Reassure the public that this million dollars is well spent. The problem is no government agency has the fortitude to conduct such an audit just to reassure skeptics of this community based program. Lets see, you take credit for something(homicides) that hasn't happened? What qualifications do any of the staff have? Getting locked up for a criminal act, an act of civil disobidience against society, qualifies someone to "get paid" from the hard earned money of taxpayers? I'm sure bank robbers should be employed by banks to oversee operations to prevent thefts/robberies. Point is we should not be using public money for this money laundering scheme. Rahm and the democratic party praise this program and are believers. Lets use some of their personal money or money from their many contributors to help those communities which overwhelmingly support your candidates. If this organization can't satisfy demands to open up those books, lets get some government investigative agency to impanel a grand jury and begin to ask the right questions under oath and get to the bottom of their finances. Bottom line, lets see where the money is spent before giving more.

Why is it eddie burke had to get rid of his D-3 paid guys but the city hired back retired coppers at a substantially reduced pay rate and no benefits! Who is the treasurer anyway? No one knows! I'm retired now and I also had a positive experience with a cease fire convicted felon who I knew several years ago. I saw him getting back into his car at a car wash and when he sees me he waves and tosses a pistol into the back seat. Gun recovered and back to the penitentiary after a guilty plea. Wasn't Ceasefire created a few years ago? I know that it was not the city giving them a million to startup and function. Why is it the city gives them $ few months ago and now its evaporated so they close their doors? What money got them rolling in the first place I hope to hell that it was not the city.... How is it possible there is no accountability? I don't believe it...That cannot possibly be right..

The city can pay anyone more than their rank requires. If they work at D3 for four years they derive the benefit of that pay if within the last ten years on the job. They do contribute the same 9% of gross to the pension so it isn't like the pension is a gift. How do you figure it screws the pension?
I say good for them. If they can get more money from this city for acquiring extra skills and working a unit more power to them.
Now how come they pay you as much as you earn? Now there is a waste of money by god.

A long time ago (the 70's) Operation Push was found to have mis-spent 3 million in funds that they could not account for. Newly elected Pres. Reagan didn't want to begin his first term by criminally prosecuting Jesse Jackson. The matter was handled with a civil suit and Jesse stepped down and moved to D.C. Here, there should be a federal criminal investigation to determine where the $$ went.

Hilarious!!!!! One of them got thrown off SWAT for leaving a sniper rifle, his AR15, his HBT vest and helmet in the back seat of his Range Rover which is parked in the ghetto. Car is broken into and everything is stolen. Guess where ghetto fabulous SWAT boy J.Q. ends up? The Mayor's Detail now making Sgt's pay. Lol and SWAT is legit. Another SWAT boy J.W. three years ago has a negligent discharge and guess where he ends up? Mayor's Detail again. And your gonna tell me that you don't need clout to be on SWAT.
