Rahm Mending Fences to Run Again

  • Mayor Rahm Emanuel is attempting to rename a major South Side thoroughfare.

If the Mayor gets his way, Stony Island Avenue will be renamed Reverend Bishop Brazier Avenue.

[...] Political sources tell NBC 5 that kind response could be why the Emanuel is doing this, to help with sagging support on the South Side of the city. But the mayor denies an ulterior motive.

"If you didn't do it, somebody would say you're slighting somebody. If you do do it, you're saying it's political. I'll leave that to the cynics," Emanuel said.
Count us among the cynics.

And even more telling:
  • A year after the last Chicago teachers strike, Mayor Rahm Emanuel seemed to offer an olive branch to the head of the Chicago Teachers Union on Monday.

WBBM Newsradio [...] reports the seven-day teachers’ strike last September highlighted the contentious relationship between Emanuel and Lewis, who accused the mayor of screaming and cursing at her two years ago in a private meeting.

Emanuel said, in the past year, he’s tried to visit with and talk to a number of teachers, and said he recently reached out to CTU President Karen Lewis.

“When Karen was ill, I sent her a note to say ‘I wish you well. I wish you a happy, healthy new year as well,’ and that I look forward to – when she feels better – to actually have a good conversation,” he said.
That's a lot of fixing he seems to be attempting.

Remember, he snubbed her in a major way, NOT inviting her to join him when he and Byrd-whatever rang that school bell on the first day. Let's be clear about 'the rest of the story'.
Rahm sent that snotty get well message because she was reported to be out sick on the first day of classes. It sure sounded like he was thumbing his nose at her, sending a catty get well message after not pointedly not including her at a CPS function.

SPEND, SPEND, SPEND.
Fiscally irresponsible mayor!

It costs a fortune to formally rename a street. Businesses have to buy all new stationery, change their catalogues, get new business cards, repaint their trucks, change websites, notify their contacts and customers. The USPS has to jump through hoops, rewriting maps, reconfiguring computer and manual systems. The City has to make and hang hundreds of signs, redraw maps, change tax and zoning records for every property, business and organization.
Asinine. In a time of economic desperation, let's just wave our magic wand and - poof - it's all taken care of. Right, Rahm?

And now, this goof is insisting buildings in Chicago have to have an energy audit every three years at great expense to condo associations, businesses and taxpayers in general. (But tv studios will be exempt - don't want to anger the media.)

He's EXCEPTIONAL at spending other people's money. More and more of it each and every day.

The little megalomaniacal and obviously medicated from childhood, North Shore Shit-Aaa who has no "North" on his wildly spinning moral compass; does NOT have a "Fence Mending" bone in his body...

The ONLY reason he's going to try and run again is because even HE realizes that it was HE and HE ALONE who has shit on his own national aspirations...

People are starting to put two and two together about how he has managed to, by his own efforts, get chased out of both the Clinton AND Obama administrations... Two politically, spiritually and morally bereft micro-climates that people like Rahm were supposed to not only gravitate to but thrive in...

For one to get "dis-invited" from BOTH of these places?

One is inarguably qualified as a rather largish, stone-cold, one way, over-reaching, power stroking, ego-tripping, tone deaf, epically myopic jagoff.

...Just sayin'.

Rahm's thinking, reasoning and actions are actually no more elevated and evolved than that of the two-legged mutts who have clowned this city to a stand-still...

The only difference is Rahm has managed to back his way into "good fortune" not unlike how the whole of Dude Inc. dreams of hitting the "big lick."

So... "Rahm Mending Fences to Run Again" eh?

His war against The Police continues unabated...

Perhaps because the little tiny-boned manling sees The Cop as the true representative of the REAL people of Chicago.

It's no secret that Rahm has no "use" for people who aren't a catered to constituency, can think for themselves and not co-sign on whatever the hell Rahm is trying to sell (himself) or whatever his agenda (that pesky transparency thingy) for this city may be.

Rahm is wholly fixated on breaking *those old, wild-assed, out of control, bitterly clinging to their outmoded symbolic traditions cops.*

He figures he will have "Won" something...

Funny... He doesn't have the answer as to what exactly it is he will have won...

Hiya Rahm!

Took your complete and total measure as soon as you walked into the door...

The little shit-ass who got kicked out of the high class joint up the street, pigeon struts and shit-talks into shot and a beer place nursing hurt feelings, a bruised ego and a misplaced grudge...

"Yeah... You guys are gonna have to learn to bleed!"

He scans the room...

I remember working in 018 one night and someone walked up to me and asked what are the brown street names were and that they were confused trying to figure it out. I explained to them how it worked. The group of them all looked at each other and laughed. I laughed too. They all just shook their heads in disbelief.

But don't worry the same company that printed up the Safe Passage Route signs will get on the new signs right away. I thought we were broke as a city? Man when I run short on cash that's just what I do. Look for more ways to piss money away.

Include Karen Lewis in a CPS function? Why ? Teachers are employees of the CPS, not the union as they think they are. The state should pass a law making it a crime to strike for teachers and for all public employees. When the teacher's union comes up with one good idea on how to educate the children, maybe they will be relevant. But, so far, their only idea is to raise taxes so there is more money for themselves. I would like to see a handful of schools turned over completely to the union to manage and see how well they actually do. Now that would be good theater.

SCC,

Here is an interesting piece on how AR Leak and Sons Funeral Homes are profiting and expanding from Chicago's Southside homicide totals. This was in the August 5,2013 Crain's Chicago Business Journal.

What is even more amazing, is the State of Illinois, pays for the burial of these shithead gangbangers. 20% of Chicago's homicides are handled here, many at taxpayer expense. The State of Illinois pays up to $7,500 in taxpayer's money to bury these gangbangers.

I like how Mr Leak states that he doesn't want to earn his living from these homicides, but does it and complains how it takes the State of Illinois two years to pay for these funerals. Getting real fat off of the taxpayers and the misery of the hood.

Stony Island because he did
not want that ugly, noisy L

people no longer have pride in themselves or their neighborhoods and the poverty pimps, a.k.a. reverend, apostle, etc. are the only ones who are prospering, aside from the boys selling dope. Yes, SCC

Anyone who thinks he's a one-termer is wrong. He has a ton of money and , well , the voters of this city and state are the biggest idiots in America. Who's gonna beat him ? Lewis? Waugaspack? Fioretti? Gimme a break. Come election time, you'll see Barack and Michelle here all the time, while guys like Bloomberg pour huge money into his war chest. Mayor for life , if he chooses.

. . . Stony Island Avenue will be renamed Reverend Bishop Brazier Avenue.

What do you think the cost of renaming Stony Island will cost? The smaller green corner signs, and the larger ones at major intersections.

Rahm just enjoys pissing away the tax payers money. Let's not budget for it over a period of time, no, we're just going to do it.

Anything for the votes, but I'm sure he'll say it's for the kids.

From IL Supreme Court this morning

Accordingly, as the Seventh Circuit did in Moore, we here hold that, on its face, section 24-1.6(a)(1),(a)(3)(A) violates the right to keep and bear arms, as guaranteed by the second amendment to the United States Constitution.

Letterman tries to hide the fact that he's from Indiana - Hoosiers are much too provincial, ya' know. However, Rahm must be a little peeved that the people who CAN move out of Chicago HAVE, and they've moved to Whiting, Hammond and surrounds. I met and spoke to quite a few of these transplants on a recent trip to the region.

9/12/2013 09:29:00 AM

I'd like to see the government, which is charged with giving every child an education, actually do so.

I am a resident of the 24th Pct. of the 43rd Ward. Since becoming eligible in college, I have voted in every primary and general election in Chicago.

At 5 PM, I stopped by a Thai restaurant and placed orders to go.

Lo and behold, the office of 43rd Ward Ald. Michele Smith, 2523 N. Halsted St., was directly next door. I decided to drop in.

Ms. Leslie Perkins greeted me at the front desk stating that Ald. Smith was not available.

As a citizen, I asked Ms. Perkins to pass on three proposals for Ald. Smith to introduce before the City Council. For all city elected officials, I proposed that there be:

(1) Term limits.
(2) A mechanism for a voter recall referendum initiative, and
(3) Reduce Chicago wards from fifty (50) to seventeen (17) based on per capita city council representation in the nation's eight other most populous cities.

Ms. Perkins assured me that she would pass my proposals on to Ald. Smith. I provided my eMail address for Ald. Smith's reply.

I must commend Ms. Perkins for NOT laughing in my face.

On a side note to Mr. Andy Shaw, Better Government Association:

Talk is cheap. Initiate petitions with the objective of placing the three above reforms on the ballot.

Damn "the Chicago Way".

So my question for you is, "Are you a teacher?" I am and I teach in CPS and I am completely and fully aware that CPS is my employer and not the union. I can only wish on a shooting star that the union members (teachers) were able to "manage and see how well they (I am presuming the students) actually do." We have CPS bosses who tell us how to teach.

And I would want to invite you to spend a week with me in my special education classroom and then come home with me as I spend many more hours preparing and planning for my students. That is the only way individuals will truly understand the teaching profession unless you happen to love or care about someone who is a teacher.

Also, I fully support the police, firemen, and paramedics and all who work hard every day for this city. All of us are going to work together as one to help defeat Rahm in the next election.

He's the type to set up a firing position at the ONE unchained exit and have a leisurely time killing the shit out of everybody trying to flee the flames while laughing his little corroded ass off...

Of course, he has trouble wrapping his hot and feverish mind around why all you puny, unimportant, insignificant people aren't willing to perish in the flames he ignited.

You ingrates will learn to sacrifice all that is yours for his pleasure...

At the beginning of his run for office, Rahm said, "You're gonna have to learn to bleed..."

He meant that for...

Teachers.

Firemen.

Policemen.

Rahm doesn't give a fuck about anybody but Rahm and adding on to the $18 Million he managed to bojank from Fannie/Freddie...

Things That You Don't See In the Chicago Papers

YAaaa, head 'em up and move 'em out!

An Illinois lighting company with 400 employees plans to move across the state line to Kenosha — the second manufacturer in a week to say it will leave northern Illinois for Wisconsin.

Kenall Manufacturing plans to relocate its headquarters and factory from Gurnee, Ill., to a 354,000-square-foot facility to be built near I-94 along Highway 158.

Kenall makes specialty lighting equipment used in places such as hospitals, schools, parking structures and prisons. The company has been growing, and has added about 100 jobs in the last three years, said Randy Hernandez, executive vice president for operations

Guess Illinois couldn't produce the bribe money or maybe there wasn't enough money coming back via campaign contributions to entice them to stay

Rollin', rollin', rollin, keep those dogies rollin'

P.S Guess we add this to the -102,000 EMPLOYED count and the -100,000 Illinois Labor Force counts from the BLS since Jan 2013

Maybe that explains the Missing Persons report posted in the comments here eh?

KEWANEE —

The owners of a manufacturing plant in western Illinois say it will close next year and moving to another part of the country.

WGIL radio reports Thursday that BOMAG will close its facility in Kewanee by the end of next year. The company makes asphalt rollers and other items in the Henry County city of about 13,000. It received incentives from the state of Illinois three years ago to consolidate its Illinois and Missouri operations in Kewanee.

The company says the plant will move to a "yet to be determined" location in the southern United States.

BOMAG officials wouldn't say how many people work at the Kewanee plant. The company says the move will help it save money and better serve its customers

Are they eating dog?

Not to worry, we have that $55 million dollar Maggy Daley park and six figure copper doors and chandeliers in the state capitol because it's "necessary"

Besides, eating dog will enable the political apparatus to report that inflation is tame due to the CPI hedonic quality adjustment that states when one item is priced to high people switch to something lower cost. When you can't afford steak you switch to fish. When you can't afford fish you switch to chicken...etc..etc.. you switch to dog.

See inflation is tame. Just stop buying that other shit. haha.

I suspect that Rahm is definitely running again and if elected will serve out his full second term. I think that the higher ups in the Democratic party have told him that neither the Presidential nomination nor the Vice Presidential nomination will be his in 2016. The democrats will run either Quinn or Daley for Governor, and talk is that Michelle Obama will run against Kirk for the senate. Right now this leaves Rahm with no place to go except to run again as mayor. As much as I dislike Emmanuel, and would never vote for him he will probably win re election. There will be no credible black candidate, because any good decent African American with a chance to win won't get party support, and any credible white or Hispanic challenger will drop out for BS reasons like Tom Dart. Detroit’s collapse could happen in any city where the right conditions exist. Illinois Policy Institute CEO John Tillman said Chicago city officials should take note of the circumstances that led to Detroit’s demise.

“I lived in Detroit in the early 1980s and return often to see family and Detroit Tigers home openers,” he said. “Those who think Chicago can never go the way of Detroit are making a grave mistake. Too many comparisons are being made between the Detroit of today with Chicago of today. That is wrong. We need to look at the Detroit of 10 to 15 years ago — did it face it problems head on, honestly, and make the very difficult, transformational changes then needed? Or did it kick the can down the road until officials finally kicked it over the bankruptcy cliff? Chicago is on the same path — but eventually, reality can no longer be avoided. We still have a choice — will Illinois continue pushing much-needed reform off into the future, or will our leaders finally face the music?”

So, is Chicago heading down the same path? On Sept. 18, the Illinois Policy Institute will be hosting a panel discussion at the Union League Club of Chicago with experts from Detroit and Chicago to discuss the economic factors and policies that led to Detroit’s current situation, and what policymakers in Chicago and other cities can learn from the Motor City.

Here are some of the factors that led to Detroit’s demise:

Growing deficits — Sound financial practices, such as balancing a budget, may not be exciting. But having the discipline to honestly balance a budget and resist the urge to continue overspending means government sets priorities and makes the most of the resources it has. By contrast, large deficits, or reliance on budgetary tricks to hide spending, are clear signs of a city that’s in trouble. The ratings on a city’s bonds are one quick way to assess a community’s budget situation. Detroit’s bond ratings are junk, meaning the city is expected to default on many of its debts. Chicago’s bond ratings are declining – Moody’s Investors Service dropped its rating of Chicago’s bonds last month to A3 from Aa3, and at the time signaled that ratings are likely to go lower.

Chicago is in much better shape than Detroit, but it is getting into a potentially deadly cycle where investors consider Chicago bonds riskier and riskier. As the risk goes up, the city has to pay higher and higher rates of interest, making it harder for the city to balance its budgets.

City forced into massive layoffs — Union bosses hate to make concessions, but sometimes they really are necessary. Just like in the private sector, when an employer needs relief from costly benefits and a union refuses to allow them, the result is workers being laid off. This happened in Detroit in 1978 when the police officers’ union demanded, and eventually got, an expensive cost-of-living allowance. Over the next few years Detroit laid off nearly a quarter of its police force, and crime rates shot up dramatically — 1978 may have been the turning point in Detroit’s collapse.

Chicago is already seeing something similar in its public schools. Last fall’s teacher strike ended with a contract including hefty raises that Chicago Public Schools, or CPS, cannot afford. Facing a billion-dollar deficit, CPS laid off more than 2,400 teachers since it inked the new contract.

Breakdown of basic services — Detroit’s police force is emaciated – it takes an hour on average for police to arrive after a call, and fewer than one out of eight murders were solved in 2012. But the failure of Detroit’s basic services was made obvious during the Devil's Night fires, which were devastating physically and absolutely crushed the morale of city residents. City officials knew what was coming, but were powerless to stop it.

Well...maybe in certain 'hoods in Chicago but not in the rest of the English speaking world.
--- Brassiere is pronounced with an 'ah', a short 'a'.
--- Brazier is with an 'ay', a long 'a', like in Gray, Pay, Say.

Native Chicagoans are not exactly known for pronunciation and public speaking. John Kass wrote an article on 'Chicagoisms' years ago. (Hunert, Over By Dare, Goin To Da Jewels, etc).

Teachers’ strikes are illegal in (37) states

States where teachers’ unions can legally call strikes

California
Colorado
Idaho
Illinois
Louisiana
Minnesota
Montana
Ohio
Oregon
Pennsylvania
Vermont

Some exceptions to the rule
In Maryland, teachers are allowed to strike on their own. This is extremely rare, however, because unions can’t authorize a strike. Occasionally, we know teachers’ unions in Maryland have instituted “work to rule” conditions for teachers, where they work from the start of school to the final bell but provide no other services for students. Before unions were prohibited from authorizing strikes, Baltimore teachers went on strike for a month in 1974, primarily over class sizes and working conditions. City officials pretended schools were still open so as not to lose funding, according to a report in the Baltimore Sun.

In the state of Washington, teachers don’t face any legal action if they decide to strike, but their jobs aren’t protected during a strike. That is, they can be fired, making a “strike” little more than job abandonment.

Striking by teachers is completely illegal in 37 states
Whoever won the Chicago teachers’ strike, however you analyze it, one thing we know: students lost—they lost hours and seven days of instruction, they lost confidence in the public schools to provide a safe environment, conducive to learning, and especially for young students, they lost the excitement of a new school year.

Separation of Church and State?

This is far beyond the pale; outrageous! You don't see any Chicago streets named after the late Cardinals Mundelein, Stritch, Cody or Bernadin.

I am OPPOSED to pandering for votes by naming a street for Brazier, but the Jesuits have done well enough. Loyola Avenue on the North Side is obvious enough, but the former Robey Avenue was renamed Damen Avenue to honor a Chicago based Jesuit priest who was active in Holy Family Parish and a St. Ignatius High School and College, which later moved North and was renamed Loyola.

Go to www.ctunet.com. click the plan and recommendations the ctu made in 2011. Proposed to cps board and dismissed. (Look for the icon link that looks like a black and white marbled notebook). Get facts first please jag off!

No one agrees with you and the CTU, not the federal government, not the independent associations and not the news media. This " plan" is just hyperbole. Her comments are racist in which she blames rich white people for the problems with the children and calls for less white teachers in the system. You want reform? More school choice, eliminate senority and ban strikes. The CTU is a bloated bureaucracy. Lewis wants the teachers to live in the school's community and " speak the same language" The CTU makes half hearted demands for things other then an increase in pay and benefits but then leaves it at that, just a minor demand, no follow-up. The CTU does not spend any time fighting for classroom autonomy. It is all smoke and mirrors. And, by the way, I take it you are a teacher, but cannot make a discussion and resort to name calling. I

Seeing as how Richy went way out of his way to remove everything in this city that had Jane Byrne's name on it, I suggest this:

Rename the 0-100 block of West Washington St to Jane Byrne Street. Then forevermore the Richard J Daley Center will officially have the address of 50 W. Jane Byrne Street. I think that is only fitting and should be done while mumbles is alive and can be invited to the dedication.

Are you THE Paul Kersey, originally from NYC?

If so, I love you, man. Can you hook up with Bernie Goetz to join you in Chicago. I'll even pay half his rent.

You guys would go into the throes of orgasm just taking strolls down Michigan Ave. after dusk. A few late night rides on the Red and Blue Lines would be so special.

We've got a lot of "wet work" to do in this clusterfuck of a town.

Bravo... I take it you are a detective. The CTU cannot fight for classroom autonomy because it does not run the school system or make policy. Unions defend their workers and advocate for them. They do not advocate for the students. The CPS is so backasswards, that the union has gone beyond their intended role to advocate for students and parents. There is the social issue of poverty. That cannot be fixed by teachers, schools, police, jail or other.
There needs to be accountability for students and parents! Parents that are 27 years old and have 14 and 16 year olds in my class. Single mothers, no fathers, no support.
It is like the police being evaluated by the amount of crime in their district. Too much crime (bad test scores) your fired. I say fuck that. That Is not fair. The same kids I teach are the same kids shooting up this city, or living with the crime around them. (Those 7 days of instruction you cried about, did not hurt the kids. The other 358 days a year hurt them when nobody outside the classroom knows what goes on). The teachers working conditions are the students learning conditions. And we cant go home with them and make them do homework or not act like jagoffs. That is the parents job.

You say no one agrees with me, so you agree that the federal government and private corporations with zero background in education know better. When those two stop pandering to the poor and giving free shit for nothing to ensure votes and consumer base, then come talk to me about who agrees with who.

I know now that you are not a policeman or a city employee. You sound too knowledgeable and passionate about destroying government unions. Apparently, you haven't been around long, or you go to work in a bubble and don't see the stupidity in charge of all the city department s.

There is your discussion ass face. I am never to old to resort to name calling. Way to try and sound educated on a blog. You have to be a troll or mole for the city.

According to my CTU insider, another perk for several CPS teachers will soon be gone. Due to amount of teachers losing their jobs this year, CPS teachers and select staffers in special need basis areas and hired after November 20, 1996 will ALL Have to live in Chicago.

So, all of those CPS teachers and staffers who don't reside in Chicago and who were hooting and hollering "Hey, Hey, Ho, Ho, Rahm Emmanuel Has to Go!" during the strike will finally get their chance to vote Rahm out of office as Chicago voters if they want to keep their jobs.

Yes, there you go, more name calling and then repeating as fact something that is proven to be not true. Teachers can negotiate for working conditions which includes changes in the education system. But, they don't want that just as they are trying to shut down choice in other states by bribing the legislature. Teachers have a vested interest in keeping the education system just as it is and that is by raising taxes where most people cannot pay.The democrats in Illinois take plenty of money from the CTU and don't have the guts to make the required changes. And, I did spend 10 years in the classroom. It was a taxing job and most are not meant for this career. But, that does not justifythe self serving CTU. School choice is the only way to go and the only way to educate out youth.

@ 11:19 am Mr. or Mrs. School choice, Bruce Rauner? Is that you?...

Again, you're wrong, but I won't call you a name this time because you'll get butt hurt. You spent 10 years in a classroom. Yippee, you didn't say where and I don't care...you couldn't hack it, agree its hard and yet want to jam me and other city workers up buy peddling your bullshit.

You did not address poverty or parenting. Pretty key components. The rest is you trying to step on our dick.
