May all the souls taken from us that day rest in peace and dwell in a better place far from this one. It is sad to also note that not long after this horrific event, efforts to build a mosque near this site were set into motion. Understandably, this outraged many of those families who lost loved ones and friends in the attack on the towers when they learned of this project. I do not know if the man responsible for initiating this was ever successful, but I can't imagine how he or anyone could think this was acceptable. Place of worship or not, all that mosque represents are those who use it as an excuse to kill people in the name of their religion. And for those who say it's a peaceful religion- go live in a muslim country and openly practice christianity and see what happens.
A state trooper who was fatally wounded during a traffic stop in West Michigan played a key role in leading police to the person they believe shot him, authorities said Tuesday.
State police Lt. Chris McIntire said Trooper Paul Butterfield provided location and vehicle information to a dispatcher before he was shot Monday evening in Mason County.
"What he did was perfect," McIntire said during a morning news conference at the state police's Rockford post. "You can't prepare for something like this. He did the right thing."
Butterfield stopped a vehicle at 6:20 p.m. in Sherman Township, and three minutes later a motorist called 911 to report a trooper had been shot in the head. Butterfield, 43, died during emergency surgery at Munson hospital. Sherman Township is about 80 miles north of Grand Rapids.
A vehicle later was found based on the information Butterfield had called in, and police located two suspects some 15 miles away at a gas station in Wellston around 8:30 p.m. Police exchanged gunfire with the suspects, and one suspect was shot.
A man and woman were taken into custody. The man was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No one has been charged.
"We have a lot to do yet. We are trying to piece the investigation together," McIntire said.
Butterfield, who became a trooper in 1999, was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was the son of a retired police officer.
"Tonight we lost a hero," said Col. Kriste Kibbey Etue, director of the MSP, in a statement on Monday.
Gov. Rick Snyder on Tuesday ordered flags at state offices to be flown at half staff until after Butterfield's funeral.
"This senseless incident is a grim reminder that our brave public safety officers put their lives on the line every day when they go to work protecting Michiganders," Snyder said in a statement.
19 officers and supervisors from the 010th District left Chicago a few days after the twin towers came down, burning their own time-due and spending their own money with the only thought in their minds: their brethren in the NYPD needed help. After 9/11 the New York City PD were working on mandatory 12-hour shifts with no days off. There was no fanfare, no accolades, no ribbons; they just went to help other cops. It was a time when the CPD was a real police department (although the 3rd watch Captain refused to allow the compensatory time usage) it's something the Superintendent knows nothing about. He thinks the only cops on Earth are NYPD officers and he smirks when he sees CPD officers or attends our functions. But we weren't there to show anyone up, we were just there because fellow police officers needed help. Cops helping cops. The brotherhood of the badge.
While I still grieve for ANYONE who lost their lives on 9-11, I find it amazing that they (media, etc..) CONSTANTLY talk about the "Firefighters" that lost their lives in that attack. While the numbers may support that, can we at least try and remember the many other first responders (i.e., POLICE OFFICERS, EMS personnel, Security personnel, CIVILIANS, that lost their lives too? GOD BLESS!
What happened on this day should never be forgotten, but as time goes by unfortunately it will be remembered less and less. Take time today to remember everyone who lost their lives during the attack on our country 12 years ago, especially the members of the FDNY, NYPD, our military who lost their lives at the Pentagon, and the brave people who stopped the fourth plane from striking its intended target. May they rest in peace.
It was right about now when the first plane hit. The chain of events to unfold would be something out of a movie. Surreal beyond my imagination's capacity to grasp. I will never forget. We must never forget!
I agree with you. However, since 343 (85.1%) of the 403 murdered first responders were FDNY, it's understandable. Other first responder losses:
PAPD: 37 NYPD: 23
Another tragedy with little publicity: Of those first responders that went to "THE PIT" to help out in the aftermath, 1,140 cancer deaths have since occurred in the last 12 years.
Please don't forget Rick Rescorla. He was a Vietnam combat vet who was head of security at MSDW in the Towers, who, after the 1993 bombing, drilled his staff constantly on what to do *when* the Towers were attacked again (he predicted it was coming). He lost his life when they fell, but was able to get over 2700 of his Morgan Stanley coworkers to safety. He's the reason why the death toll wasn't over 5000.
May their souls rest in peace . Syrian rebels are murdering Christians everyday and no mention of this by our leader . Never forget 9-11-01 or 9-11-12 or Fort Hood terrorist attack that leader called work place violence. it should worry all of us .
God Bless America land that I love. Stand beside her and guide her through the night with the light from above. From the mountains to the prairies to the oceans white with foam. God Bless America my home sweet home. God Bless America my home sweet home.
When someone first suggested building a mosque at the site of ground zero, that idea should have been shot down right from the start. Not this time, and especially not at this place.
The Koran (018:021) states: 'Build a building over them, their Lord knows best about them; and those who prevailed in their affair said, 'We will surely make a mosque over them.'
This is not a direct commandment to build on a place of victory, but there is a tradition of building mosques to celebrate or symbolize victory.
The muslims are really really nice people....just misunderstood. It is OK to kill someone who does not agree with you. Please look at this link to learn more about these peaceful people. http://www.thereligionofpeace.com/
Sadly, the President and the Congress have learned nothing. Chicago and the nation are seeing a vast increase the number of Arab and Islamic immigrants settling here. Many of these people are not making any effort to assimilate whatsoever and dress in burkas and hijabs.
Seriously, did the USA admit immigrants from Nazi Germany during WWII?
I was working that morning...I had to work overtime that day because the bosses, like the rest of us working downtown, wondered if we'd be hit next and wouldn't release us at the end of our tour. My parents were alive back then.... they called me to send me their love in case it was the last time they'd talk to me. My firefighter brother did the same. What an eerie feeling we all had. I remember it like it happened yesterday. It changed my life completely. My husband was soon deployed for the first of many times since. We've made it a point to visit all three memorials where all three planes came down. Many families personally sacrificed that day, and many more have sacrificed since. Hug your loved ones and show appreciation for those that make sacrifices on a daily basis...the military, first responders, and their families.God bless America!
A crime against humanity. No other way to describe it. God bless the people who still mourn and remember their lost loved ones. Those of us who didn't lose a close family member also feel your pain. You're not alone.
I was almost at work on 2nd watch on 9/11 when I heard on the AM radio the second plane going in. I knew it was an attack.
The realization that hundreds of police and fire personnel were dying was sickening. Those poor families, what they went through. RIP brothers and sisters.
It is generally part of human nature to retreat from danger.
Except for a special breed of human. They do not retreat from danger. Instead they instictively run toward it..with the intention of protecting others from that danger.
This special breed of human become police officers, firefighters, EMTs, soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen.
And I thank God for each and every one of them.
May God bless all of the victims who lost their lives that day and may those responsible for their deaths rot in Hell for eternity for the evil they unleashed upon the world.

Rick Rescorla, born in England, moved here and enlisted in the US Army and went to OCS. He was a platoon leader in the 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division under the command of Lt Col Harold Moore. (Moore retired from the Army as a Lt. General)
Rick fought with distinction at the 1965 Battle of Ia Drang written about in the book "They Were Soldiers Once, and Young" which was also made into a movie with Mel Gibson.
The poster is correct, when the announcement came over the PA system in the WTC to stay in your office Rescorla said hell no, he had the employees evacuate. They knew what to do because Rick drilled it into them with regular evacuation drills ever since the 1993 attack.
Rescorla's wife watched the tower come down on TV and knew her husband was in there.

Rudy mentioned this incident while speaking at the United Center in Chicago. He said he observed two Chicago PO's directing traffic in front of the Israeli Consulate after 9/11 and it moved him beyond belief. Rudy also claimed that a CPD Sgt caused a traffic accident while directing traffic there in a humorous tone.

It was very difficult for anyone to get out of Germany during the war. There was a ship full of Jewish refugees that tried to land at many different countries, including the US, in 1939. It was the S.S. St. Louis. They were refused by all. They went back and forth to Europe twice, were refused by Cuba and the US several times. They were returned to Europe right before war broke out in 1939. Many undoubtedly met the same fate as many of Europe's Jews. Not a proud moment in history.
That "mosque at ground zero" story originated with a professional hate monger. People from all over the world were killed at the *World* Trade Center, including Moslems. (And the WTC had a Moslem prayer room.) Hating on a billion people because of a handful of psycho filth is like damning all Christians because of Timothy McVeigh.
