More Attacks on Off-Duty Officers?

We can only guess that since they didn't involve gun crime, they don't count, but the guys over at CrimeInBoystown blog have an exclusive as far as we can tell:
  • In a stunning development this morning, the 19th district handled two calls of off-duty police officers being jumped, apparently in two separate incidents near Wrigley Field around 5 o'clock this morning. Few details are available at this hour.

In the first incident, an off-duty officer who was riding his bike to work was jumped by four men near the intersection of Grace and Sheffield. An on-duty unit made contact with the officer and the officer is OK. According to a "flash" issued to on-duty officers, the attackers, described as four male blacks in their 20's, were last seen running south and possibly west from the scene of the attack. One offender wore a red sweat jacket with two white stripes and the other three offenders wore all black. News of the attack came first from the 19th district desk.

Moments later, at 5:07AM, dispatchers announced that two off-duty offers sought shelter in the CFD firehouse at 1052 W. Waveland, just outside of Wrigley's left field wall. According to dispatch reports, the police officers went to to fire station for help after being "beaten up." No further information is available at this time.
So in a single weekend, we have 7 attacks on officers at 6 locations. But hey, crime is down!

The 019th district is in some real bad shape that's for damm sure. 35th St. has crushed the manpower there since the merge. Sure would hate to be a resident there. Unless 019 gets some better manpower the businesses there will behin to hurt too. I'm suprised the aldermen there aren't demanding more police there. 35th could easily 20-30 PPO's right off their probation to 019. It needs youg coppers.

This is insane. I realize they're off duty and in street clothes but 'back in that day' this crap just did not happen. You wouldn't even think of raising your voice to a cop -- or an adult for that matter -- let alone attack one.

Then again we knew the consequences of those actions. And mom and/or grandma would say we would have deserved it! To boot, we'd also have a meeting with 'Mr Belt'.

How about dishing out a can of whoop ass ? There comes a time, when you have to stand your ground and fight, just make sure you get one offender real good, and hold him tight, you know around the neck until help arrives. Usually you can use the assailant in your grips as kind of like a shield for anything that comes at you. That's fighting 101 for those of you that don't understand close contact with the enemy.

Wtf is going on. Why are these coppurs not carrying? I don't care where you are in this god for saken nation. CARRY OFF DUTY! Spend a little of you uniform allowance on something you actually need like a small M&P or baby Glock and keep it with you at all times.

Lets merge some more districts and cut manpower actually patrolling by a 1/2 . Yea that will work. The animals have arrived because of this and now they are here to stay. Blam your alderman, the Mayor, and yourselves as citizens because you all voted for and believed the garbage they spewed to you about closing a district that still remains open as a lock up. Yes real smooth thinking.

This is a damned shame, but totally predictable. The failure to properly staff this district is proof that Rahm Emanuel does not give a shit. He may kill a profitable entertainment district in the process.

Wrigleyville has numerous watering holes where people spend money and carry cash. The ballpark draws tourists. Out of towners are always preferred marks because many find it impossible to remain in the city long enough to press charges. Same thing in Florida where the punks target airport travelers near car rental agencies.

Halsted Street is a short distance away and to be politically incorrect "fruit picking" used to appeal to muggers since some of the victims were fearful of being "outed" after cooperating with the police.

I hope that the bastards are apprehended and sent away for a long time.

If you go out to Clark and Addison at the bar district during a Friday or Saturday night, you will be shocked. You will see about five to seven homeless guys. One is even creative and truthful; he holds a cardboard sign. The sign says "give me a beer". Funny and sad. You will probably be solicited for narcotics along your journey. Some people just walk up and down Clark saying "I got weed, I got weed". I have noticed that this part of the city has gotten more ghetto in the last 18 months. I don't blame the officers who work there because they can only do so much. If they had enough officers then perhaps they can be proactive. But lets face it, the city doesn't care. They will care once the area goes to complete shit. THEN they will care.

It doesn't make sense. CARRY at all times and use deadly force. If you can't, how can the average citizen be protected in their own situation?

Chicago is getting worse and worse and it is because of very poor leadership in the Mayor's Office as well as the Police Chief.

Best strategy? Stay out of Chicago and have Chicago stay out of the rest of the surrounding communities.

Officers, you have the ability to protect yourself and your family while off duty. Hell you can protect others too even though you slog theu this shit every day.Me or my family have not had that legal option so just imagine how shitty it is for us to walk around this hell hole now. Carry officer, protect yourself by all means. Hopefully the good people will overcome the odds once we are given our right to carry. Shitbags will not know who is or is not carrying. That should put a dent in things. If I was ever in a position to protect one of you...I wouldnt think twice. Be safe. Carry. The odds are gonna get better for all of us soon.

When you get jumped from behind, or if you're on a bike with both hands on the handlebars, how, exactly, are you supposed to pull your gun out? You talk like these victims have chosen not to carry their guns. They probably have them, but can't get to them. It's not like we can walk around with the gun IN OUR HAND while riding a bike or walking to a bus stop.
No need to admonish police officers to carry their guns off duty; we're very well aware of when we can, should, shouldn't do so, but it's not a magic force field that keeps the bad guy away.

I believe some of the not paying attention is because of I phone's. I see on duty po's on foot posts either texting or checking to see if they have e mail and two man cars where the passenger is on the Iphone not paying attention to whats going on around him. The creature is all over and they don't care about the police so pay attention it just might save you a beating.Be Safe

Watch out, those ice cream places are dangerous. Someone got killed recently over ice cream. We need ice cream control right now to deal with this scourge! We need to outlaw high-capacity cones NOW! Who in their right mind ever needs a cone that can hold more than two scoops? No one! And instant background checks so that the mentally ill aren't gorging themselves on ice cream cone after ice cream cone.

Sensible ice cream control NOW is the only solution!

Let's get control of this outrageous ice cream situation!

State Representative John Mullen (D-IL) says....

"Now I am not one to spread gossip. As you may have heard there have been assaults upon police officers recently. Well rumor has it that these have been committed by, well I don't know how to say this but. . . Black People"

The representative declined to name names, "I'm just repeating what is said in the community"

It's been tried, and FOP wasn't on board (Gonzalez, Mullens, Merck). The entire FOP is about to be replaced including all trustees, and the new crew will have a PAC that has coppers running in every race, every election.

Hey Mikey, After all these years, you still haven't learned . Go back surfing the web and leave police work to the professionals.

When you get jumped from behind, or if you're on a bike with both hands on the handlebars, how, exactly, are you supposed to pull your gun out? You talk like these victims have chosen not to carry their guns. They probably have them, but can't get to them. It's not like we can walk around with your gun IN OUR HAND while riding a bike or walking to a bus stop.......actually you can walk around with your gun IN YOUR HAND. Where does it say it has to be holstered. just dont point it at anyone,, till you have to.

"...They're only sending two PPOs to 019..."

They shouldn't send any PPOs to 019. They need to go somewhere to learn police work, not learn how many different lattes Starbucks can make.
