That Time of Year!

Bears favored by 3 in their season opener. New coach, lot of new faces, and hope springs eternal.

Plus it's almost Hockey Season - preseason next week as the Blackhawks attempt to defend the Cup.

Watching the Stanley Cup parade through town in two of the last four years has been awesome. I expect that we'll see it again, before Toews and Kaner hang up their skates for the last time... maybe more than once and maybe even as soon as a back-to-back 2014 NHL Championship.

With all that being said, I can't remember being this excited about the start of the Bears season in a long time.

Why?

Well, of course, everybody is 0-0, and the Bears and Marc Trestman are undefeated!

Seriously though, I'm hoping the Bears are catching lightning in a bottle. Cutler has his back against a wall. It's his put-up or shut-up season. He's in a contract year and either he plays like an elite QB and earns a new deal as one of the richest players in the history of the NFL, or he may not be with the Bears ever again.

Assuming for the time being that Cutler succeeds in his situation, imagine how the rest of this new Bears offense will look. Matt Forte will be the best all-around back in the league. Marshall will have another big year but WR's Jeffrey, Bennett and Rookie Wilson will have big numbers, as well as TE Martellus Bennett.

O-line rookies Long and Mills will struggle (maybe as early as today), but will mold the right side of the line into a solid wall, at least until the need arises to move Long over to the LT position.

None of us has seen the Bears new playbook, but THAT is where my excitement is centered. I think Phil Emery may have hired one of the most "NFL-ready" Head coaches ever. Marc Trestman has been around for decades coaching football and has been successful at it. College, CFL, NFL... position coach, Offensive Coordinator, Head Coach. He's an innovator and an exploiter. He will study defenses and surgically slice them to ribbons. He'll slant, curl, hook, bomb and flat route every weakness in the opponents secondary. I think we're in for some offense like we've never seen in this town.

The defense will continue without a hitch, thank you.

So now we'll see if it's lightning in a bottle or just crap in a can. This should be interesting.

bears will be tested by a tough defense--- bears win out with home field advantage--- the blackhawks are once again a dangerous team that nobody will want to play--- losing bolland will hurt but the hawks are so deep on offense that it really won't matter--- avoiding the injury bug will be key for the hawks this season--- the hawks also have plenty of skill players in the farm system ready to make the jump to the big club if called upon--- time to put up the golf clubs and start lighting the lamp....

Not impressed at all at the end of the frost half. Defense looks like shit. They can't stop aj green. The defense can't get any type of penetration. Dalton is picking the secondary apart. The defense was not changed at all. The offensive guru trestman is not impressing me at all.

Smart move trying for that field goal right before the half. It paid off. That was the winning margin.

After watching Cincinnati beat itself with stupid plays and lack of discipline, I had to wonder if that wasn't Lovie Smith on the sideline coaching the Bengals.

As for the Blackhawks, they have a great young team and if they keep the stars together they should be very good for the next 6 to 8 years, but it is very difficult to repeat, so I don't see a Stanley Cup in 2014
