Midway Money Disappears

  • After picking two finalists for a lucrative lease of Midway Airport, Mayor Rahm Emanuel's administration Thursday abruptly halted its efforts to take the transportation hub private.

Emanuel spokeswoman Sarah Hamilton said one group vying for the deal dropped out "in the past day or two," and the mayor decided not to proceed.

"The mayor said all along he wanted this to be a competitive process in order to get the best possible deal for the citizens of Chicago," Hamilton said. "With only one company left, that wasn't the case."
On the other hand, Daley would have called that situation a "win" for taxpayers and locked in a deal that shorted the city for the next 100 years.

But this is amusing to say the least:
  • The company that remained in the running for Midway was the Great Lakes Airport Alliance — a partnership of Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets and Ferrovial — while the one that backed out of the bidding was Industry Funds Management and Manchester Airports Group, sources with knowledge of the process said.

Great Lakes this past spring hired as a consultant William Filan, a veteran lobbyist who has a long-standing business relationship with the husband of city Aviation Commissioner Rosemarie Andolino. According to city Board of Ethics records, Filan has paid $154,000 since 2007 to Mark Fary, a former 12th Ward alderman and Andolino's husband, to lobby the city on behalf of a handful of Filan's clients.

In an email, Filan said he has only consulted Macquarie and Ferrovial on their bid. He said he has not lobbied the Aviation Department or any other city department on their behalf but registered to do so because he might. Filan said Fary did not know Filan was representing the two Midway hopefuls until after the Tribune inquired about his involvement late last week.

Andolino declined to comment. Fary could not be reached for comment.

$154,000 buys a lot of silence we guess. Business as usual it seems.

On a related note...

Is this true and if it is why isn't this a scandal which puts Richie Daley in jail and breaks that damn parking meter lease.

Is Former Mayor Richard M. Daley sitting on the Board of Directors of Chicago Parking Meters Inc. with that cut-throat 75 year lease on our street parking?

Here's the latest, the Secretary of State (as Rahm's puppet) wants to stick to handicapped drivers. There will soon be two levels of parking permits. One is the standard we all know. To be exempt to paying parking meters a motorist will have to almost be a paraplegic.

Screw Daley and Rahm.

Leasing city assets protects them from secured creditors in the event of bankruptcy.

There's blood in the water anyways. No need to rush to buy city assets right now. Once bankruptcy is filed these things will be sold for pennies on the dollar.

The greed and corruption has no shame.

To all the reporters snooping around this blog, here is a Story that will be the mother of all scams being played out on tax payers. It has to do with a lot of big Chicago area politicians and land trusts out in Peotone. All of these land trusts are owned by certain politians and if Illinois is going to build a third airport these land trusts will have to be bought up by the state. Can you guess what the going rate will be per acre? Not to mention Southwest Airlines will completely pull out of midway airport if they build the stupid third airport. This is why I'm guessing they cannot get any investors to privatize Midway. All you have to do reporters is connect the dots.

Ask Maurer about Andolino and what a wonderful Daley lap dog she was.

It's good to know a little more about where her steam comes from. Fucking Daley kept promoting her up and up. And her husband is cozy with lobbyists and a former alderman. No conflicts there all right.

Fucking inbred corrupt bastards. And never anything in the news from our professional media types. Only police torture stories.

Midway Money Disappears

No one wants to deal with Rahm and his crooked ways it seems:
*****************

This more than likely was killed because Lois Scott was the point scum on this deal.

Emanuel couldn't take the blowback from such a fucked up deal.

1. Only one fucking bidder left, the only one who would have given back millions to Emanuel's campaign fund.

2. And the other shoe to drop in the federal probe Lois Scott is the bitch "handling" the sale.

Yeah, had he been stupid enough to ram this bullshit onto Chicago the real Dems in this country would have porchfucked him back into the hole he scummed out of.

This could be a ploy in the pension fight. No money from Midway gives the pols another reason to cry poor and cut pensions. When the pensions are cut, then the deal will resurface and pols will spend the money on their pet projects.

Peotone will not happen, at least not in our life times. Even though some interesting names are buying land there, the airlines don't want it. The air line industry is becoming more and more consolidated. Soon there will be only 4 major airlines in this country. They are American (which pending Govt. approval will merge with US Air.) United, Delta, and Southwest. American and United already have substantial hubs at O'Hare and Southwest's biggest station is Midway. Delta already has hubs in Detroit and Minneapolis - St. Paul and has no interest in Peotone. United and American have sunk huge money into O'Hare, and Southwest runs Midway. With a modernized O'Hare, Midway, and Gary, (which the City has quietly sunk money into) there is no need for Peotone, plus the City might not control it. At best they would be sharing control with Will County which is another reason against it. Peotone's only chance is as an all cargo airport, but don't bet on it.

From Anonymous 9/06/2013 05:47:00 P.M. Obviously you have studied this issue and know what you are talking about. The politicians buying land in Peotone will get richer whether there is an airport or not. Actually this was mentioned several years back, but the "low information voters" both on and off of this job didn't pick up on it. Hopefully someone will run with the story again.

Filan has been around for at least 30 years, helping alderman get re-elected and friends with Madigan and "others" all that time.

Anyone from Brother Rice might remember his brother, he was the freshman basketball coach in the early 80's.

There will be no 3rd airport. For those of us who saw and read the survey markings, there is only the expansion of Midway International Airport. However first the city will lie to the residents and even Ald. Marty Quinn will even designate Chrysler Village as a historic landmark.

In the meantime, the city will continue taking homes and businesses.

Bedford Park has started on an underpass that will go under the rail yard.

It will take many years but in the end, the majority of Clearing from Cicero to Narragansett and stretching down Central Avenue to 55th Street will be gone including many industrial sections of Bedford Park on 65th.

There are many city workers who reside and/or have businesses/properties here and will get screwed over just like the others have already. But the city of Chicago will state that by expanding and privatizing Midway, it will save the pensions!

My previous landlord had many properties that were in their family for some time. The city screwed them over so bad that on the day of closing for one property, the landlord's brother supposedly came in and stripped empty apartments of any value: piping, furnace, etc. The ceilings, walls, etc were ripped apart.

If you have a home, business or property in that area, get out.
