One, Two, Three Shootings?

  • An off-duty Chicago police officer fatally shot a man on the Near West Side this morning in the third police-involved shooting since midnight and the fourth in the last 24 hours, police said.

The incident happened at 6:45 a.m. at a Chicago Housing Authority building in the 1800 block of West Monroe Street, according to Chicago Police Department News Affairs...

The male officer was off-duty and working a part time job when he saw an armed female civilian security guard in a physical altercation with a male offender attempting to gain access to the property, according to a statement from police News Affairs.

The officer, in fear for his safety and the safety of the security guard, discharged his weapon striking the offender, who died, statement said. [News Affairs] said he was in [shot] the chest.
And in another other incident:
  • In another police shooting early this morning, police working in the West Woodlawn neighborhood on the South Side heard gunfire, drove toward it and found a 23-year-old man shooting a handgun toward others, according to authorities.

The shooting happened about 2:10 a.m. near the intersection of 63rd Street and King Drive and the man police shot was taken to an area hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening, according to a statement released by Chicago Police Department News Affairs office.

Patrol officers working the Violence Reduction Initiative were patrolling when they saw a person shooting at an unknown target, the statement said.
And in the third:
  • In the third police-involved shooting of the morning, officers shot at a man about 12:25 a.m. in the 5100 block of North Christiana Avenue. It's unclear exactly where the incident occurred, but that address is near the North Park University campus in the Albany Park neighborhood on the North Side.

Police were called to that area at 12:10 a.m. for a gang disturbance and report that gang members were blocking a bridge.
When officers approached a group, a number of young men fled holding their waistbands, police said.

It's not clear what happened between then and when the officer fired toward one of the men, but no one was struck and one man was arrested.
Camden earned his money last night. And the good guys are safe in each and every shooting - good job Officers.

How come no info on the emergency unit rep meeting at fop the other day. Me hears it got a little testy, board members turning on each other, the word liar used by everyone. Implosion seems to be the word of the day. The 17th meeting aught to be interesting

Good job to Po-leece gettin' down like they're supposed to.

Fuck polite conversation about "stopping the threat."

With this crazy shit going on, people really have no business getting bent out of shape when Policemen talk bluntly of actually killing armed offenders.

"You Cops are hostile, dangerous, violent and mean! Public servants shouldn't be allowed to talk that way! It scares us!"

The fuck you want then?
Give him a fluffed pillow and a chocolate mint or a near point blank 185 grain +p .45 caliber breath mint administered at 1200 feet per second?

*FLASHY KA-BLASTY!*

Instant Halloween mask...

The truth is that the Police aren't hostile, dangerous, violent and mean enough...

Maybe we're just fucked-up from working the ghetto for so long?

They really should make it illegal for people to shoot other people, you know, to cut down on these street shootings.

What? It already is illegal? Are you sure? Oh my, what is wrong with those folks? Holy cow!

The Lodge was finally able to get an Acting Desk Sergeant grievance to hearing before Arbitrator Peter Feuille on April 30, 2013. The grievance involved a 005th District Officer who had been assigned and paid out of grade as an Acting Desk Sergeant at least 800 times during his career.

Arbitrator Feuille issued his award late last night. The arbitrator ruled in favor of the City.

From the Trib. Mexican in pickels tries to get to Chicago.

"U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at a checkpoint found the man on Thursday, sprawled face-down in a load of peppers that filled the vehicle's open-air trailer, according to a statement from the agency.

The 35-year-old man, whose name was not released, told agents he climbed into the truck while it was stopped in Mexico in hopes of getting a ride all the way to Chicago, according to U.S. Customs."

One of my friends who lives in Washington state FB me yesterday stating how she can't believe how often our fucked up city is on the NBC Nightly News as the most dangerous city in the U.S. and how we have more murders than in the middle east.

And now our mayor wants us to cut 10% more from our budget. How about this: How about not building a new park for $55 million bucks and putting it towards more cops on the street Rham. But hey I am not a politician so WTF do I know.

OT: I remember seeing Castle Construction signs at the construction sites of MANY police stations and other city buildings over the past decade or so. The usual poor quality construction is no surprise, of course. But at least the asshole who owned the company is getting some consequences:

Thank you, however, this is the job we took knowing the fine print. All we ask is they don't take away anymore things during contract negotiations. Thanks again, it is comforting hearing that from someone. We don't hear that ever working in the ghetto if you can believe that, ha.

remember a black and white TV commercial of a Chicago Cop in a leather uniform jacket and round crown cap shining a flashlight walking down a dark alley.

The narration went something like,
"You wouldn't walk down an alley like this for a million bucks. A cop does it for a lot less."

It made an impression on me and I would bet that film is in a can in the vaults of WGN-TV. It would be interesting to see it again.

9/07/2013 11:20:00 PM

How about a little positive reinforcement for our image FOP? I remember this commercial. It was powerful. How about you get some cheap labor from some hungry college students that want to build their resume? Reinvent this type of a commercial and put it out there on radio and the internet. (Cheap again)

The Mayor and the left question authority types have done a lot to tarnish the image of the working police for whatever reason they have. Our own bad apples that never should have been hired have helped make us all look bad. I would be nice to have the public's support again.

Know what you are taking about before you post stuff on the blog. It was a 9th District PO not 005 and the arbitrator ruled that it should be treated as an individual grievance (as opposed to a class action type grievance) even though both the lodge and the city agreed that this particular case should be representative of the entire class of officers. The lodge is now looking for another PO (and a different arbitrator) to present a grievance to in order to get the "class action" type status so that way any ruling would cover all officers who worked out of grade as an acting desk Sgt.

Sir or madam......make no mistake about it. Honest citizens support you. Seems there are more dishonest people out there these days and a lot of them happen to be in public office.l where the hell is your FOP on this ? Isnt there something they can do to promote you guys/gals ? Frankly I am tired of seeing entire arcticles When a bad cop is uncovered. But when some pile of crap takes a shot at or turns a gun on a police officer it is just a footnote in a one paragraph blurb.
