Safe Passage Extended a Week
- For the most part, O’Toole [Elementary School] loves the extra security and attention. Perhaps that’s for good reason. During the last school year, the Safe Passage route now drawn to O’Toole, 6550 S. Seeley Ave., had more shootings on it than any other in the city, according to a Sun-Times analysis, with 13 people shot and three murdered.
But the O’Toole community is totally skeptical about how long the attention will last.
Especially since Mayor Rahm Emanuel spent part of the first day of school at O’Toole Elementary, walking a little girl to school along the new Safe Passage route. Police, firefighters, city inspectors and community workers were out in full force that day, Aug. 26. A police helicopter hovered overhead during the mayor’s visit. A streets and sanitation worker even painted fire hydrants as children headed to school.
By the second week of school, the mayor is gone, as is the overhead chopper.
And in another two weeks, the cops will be gone, too. At least the "extra" coppers drawn from all over the city, HQ, inside spots and PPO's who haven't even sat one day with a Field Training Officer. And all for what? And at what cost?

Meanwhile as the regime cries alligator tears over human rights issues in Syria - so that they can keep the QE money printing machinery going for the bankers and defense industry -- thousand of Chicagoans get mowed down in the streets each year.
It should be noted however that a Syrian war is a tool worth trillions of dollars in extortion money from the taxpayers and a typical street corner in a crime riddled street only generates about $4 million a year in economic activity. So there's that.

Can anyone tell me if the Independence parade on 26th street yesterday was more festive than that tired,old traditional parade held on the 4th day of the month of July? It seems I saw more democrat politicians celebrating with enthuiasm embracing independence and nationalism yesterday than in July? Yesterday seemed more exuberant with flag waving, beer consumption, gang disturbances, battery in progress calls etc. The overwhelming love, appreciation and respect was lacking and some would say non-existent on the national holiday July. It's an old cliché, but is almost always the answer to why things are done: FOLLOW THE MONEY.
In my district 2nd watch officers are getting four hours overtime everyday to work Safe Passage.

Teacher unions back EVERY Democrat and teachers today are so dumb you can piss down their back and they think it's raining. 80% of blacks don't vote..the other 20% vote for the providers of the Link card.
As for taxpayers, the only ones who vote live in Lakeview, Lincoln Park, Gold Coast and Near North...and that's all folks...

The best foot post hands down was from 71st & Loomis to 71st & Halsted. About a 2 mile stretch, and we saw only 4 PPO's out there, none of them field certified. There are 3 schools on that path, and we only saw CFD Parker near one. Areas like this that NEED people to watch, and they barely get anyone. Yet these schools the mayor visits get a small army for only a block or two. Ridiculous.

The officers assigned to the Safe Passage were being very nice to the school kids, it was a pleasant surprise. The continuing reports of officers arresting people and then demanding bribes, the "pac-man" and his other three corrupt cops scandal and other rotten behavior by police officers and sheriffs, gives one a jaded view of the police department sometimes, even though you know it is only a few rotten apples in the bunch.
put the firefighters on 8 hour shifts , get paid to sleep , run construction , computer , photography business on city time is bs. Hire more people , it's safer if firemen are wide awake when responding to a fire .
Drive by any firehouse , sitting around , visits by family , wife and /or girlfriend .

I heard this too. It was bs of the copper, but in all fairness, the dispatcher read out that the suburban cop was holding an offender that fled from a hit and run accident and right after that she tried dispatching the car and he asked for lunch. It wasn't like the copper was in trouble and need help. He was just "holding an offender"

Friends Mourn Man Fatally Assaulted in Possible Random Hate Crime

For more than a decade, Jeffrey Babbitt traveled two or three times a week from his home in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, to a comic book store called Forbidden Planet just below Union Square in Manhattan. There, he bought the latest copies of “X-Men” or “Doctor Who,” or sometimes just chatted up the employees, who over the years had become good friends.
For Mr. Babbitt, 62, who friends said was a retired train conductor, the store offered an escape into fantasy and a bit of a respite from home, where he cared for his 94-year-old mother, Lucille Babbitt.
“He was just a really, really, really sweet guy,” said Jeff Ayers, a manager at the store who has known Mr. Babbit for years. “One of our staff just had a baby and he was dying to see pictures.”
Mr. Babbitt was walking through Union Square near Forbidden Planet last Wednesday when he was punched in the face seemingly at random by an assailant who, the police said, declared his intention to “punch the first white man I see.”
After he was hit, Mr. Babbitt fell to the ground, striking his head on the pavement, the police said. The attacker, whom the police identified as Lashawn Marten, then struck two men who came to Mr. Babbitt’s aid, they said.
Mr. Babbitt was taken to Bellevue Hospital Center, where, the police said, he was eventually declared brain dead and died on Monday morning.
In a neighborhood that had long ago moved past its rough-and-tumble days, the seemingly random act of violence at 3 p.m. in a bustling park came as a shock. The police said that Mr. Marten, 40, had a long history of arrests, some for assault and drug offenses in New York City and in Newburgh, N.Y.
He was arrested shortly after the attack and charged with three counts of assault. With Mr. Babbitt’s death, those charges will most likely be upgraded by a grand jury that is to hear the case on Tuesday, according to the police.

The city is full of people in political places that have never had any common sense when it comes to solving the problems of running this city. It has gotten to the point where unless you kiss rham's tiny little miniscule ass you get nothing done for your community.We do not need 50 alderheadcases apolice supt. that shoot's out street lights for some unk reason dept heads who work harder trying to get out of work rather than just doing it airport commissioners that have backgrounds in secretarial work and haven't a clue about running an airport.A fire dept. who hires woman who have to handle axes bigger than they are etc etc. democrats that's why.

I hope you realize that all this Safe Passage nonsense was done to get CPS past the 10 day mark of school so that the monies to each school was awarded according to the stellar attendance of the kids. Once that is done, Safe Passage will be terminated and no one will give a rat's ass if any of the kiddies attend school anymore. In my district 2nd watch officers are getting four hours overtime everyday to work Safe Passage.
Rahm will bankrupt the city then walk away with all his millions and the rest of us will be screwed.

A call of "holding an offender" can be anything from a compliant arrestee who is decent and respectful to an off duty copper fighting for his or her life. I know, I have been at both ends of the spectrum. The time I was literally fighting for my life, I was of duty and came across a strong armed robbery. After I announced my office, the offenders fled, but returned and attacked me. Fortunately I was carrying and was able to defend myself. When the district arrived, they told me that the call came out as "holding a man for the police." This despite the fact that the one of the victims was on the phone screaming for help to 911. My point is when you hear a call of that nature and you are reasonably close, and not tied up on something, get up off of your asses and go, because calls like that are not always what they seem.

Have you never heard of someone being held going off? Lone off duty PO holding a guy, he starts thinking, on duty police taking a long time to get there, he decides fuck this, I'm out'a here. Off duty is up to his ass in shit in a heartbeat.
Where was this? Southside or westside? Oh yeah, nothing bad ever happens to the police there.
By the way, does that car going down on lunch realize there are eleven (11) individuals on trial right now for murdering a police officer? Several of them were in on the kill of the same officer, others were alone when they killed an officer. ELEVEN!
Listen, things can go to hell real quick. The only call you have to get there real quick like is ASSIST A PO! No matter what. No one can predict how things will go.
Look at the situations leading to those 11 on trial for murdering a PO. Going home after a tour of duty, putting gear away in the parking lot. Processing a burglary scene. Working at a convenience store. Acting on information with a guy in your car. Walking a bag lady off a bus.
Get the idea? No one can predict what call will go to shit fast. When PO wants an assist, drop everything and go help!
