Taking Matters into Hand

  • Citizens across the country have grumbled about speed cameras, but someone in Wicomico County, Maryland appears to be making a physical — and political — point.
This traffic camera, supposedly in Wicomico County, Maryland, was spray-painted over the lens and tagged with the year 1776, the year the U.S. declared its independence. (Photo via SBY News)

A photo posted on the blog SBY News shows a traffic camera that’s been spray-painted over the lens and tagged with the year 1776, the year the U.S. declared independence.
And the offending camera:

Chicago's cameras appear to be placed a bit higher however.

Well, it's at least more creative than what happens in Jolly Olde Safe And Secure England - there, the cameras well be yanked out by chaining them to vehicles, smashed (clubs, pipes, *axes*), and torched.

Stateside, we have more.. direct.. means. (See: Chicago shootings - although perforating road signs and such is usually more a rural pastime.) How much direct laser input can one of those cameras handle, anyway?

I know we are law enforcement, but personally I could care less if the citizens tear these speed cameras apart- I don't blame them because I hate them too. They should be illegal because the ONLY reason they were implemented is to collect more revenue from the tax-paying citizens. We already have a system in place for speed enforcement- stop lights, stop signs, speed bumps, and policemen. When you are stopped and cited for traffic offenses by a police officer, you have the right to face him in court, ask him questions, and plead your case to a judge. You are denied this due process when you are cited by a machine- which is supposed to be calibrated and tested before being used. On patrol, we gauge speed by 1) another vehicle's speed relative to our own while driving, or 2) the use of a LIDAR machine. We are required to test these machines before the start of each tour and at the end of each tour if we are using them. This includes running a self diagnostic program which reveals any errors or problems and distance verification on a pre-measured surface. This practice must be done with EVERY speed camera, every day it is to be used or it compromises it's validity and renders any citations issued questionable. So who exactly is doing all of these required checks everyday on these devices? And how are you getting a fair trial if you attend an administrative hearing where a lawyer hired by the city decides your case? This is all nothing but a huge scam.

OFF topic: With all the comments about Rahm on Letterman last night, everybody overlooked the obvious:
RAHM ANNOUNCED HE IS RUNNING AGAIN.

Yes, he clearly did. After saying "best job I've ever had in public life", he was asked if he will run again and he said, "Yeah", nodding his head emphatically.

Later in the interview, when Letterman asked a question that started with 'if you weren't campaigning...', Rahm said he wouldn't be campaigning 'for sixteen months'.

That won't happen to the speed cameras going up in Chiraq, Rahmistan -- Spray Paint Sales was banned in Chiraq back in 1995. :-)

So Da Boyz In Da Hood will just shoot out the lenses and cameras. They'll use those 'thousands of Assault Rifles'(/s) they apparently have stored away which Tiny Dancer, McStupid, and Potato-Head are so deathly afraid of -- and God knows they could sure use the practice.

They'll set up Shooting Galleries with AKs and ARs so the whole family to join in. A nice night out, starting at 1:00 am, so 'mom' can bring the 2 year old. It'll be like the 4th of July fireworks displays in all the parks. After all, who doesn't enjoy those....

There are proposals to change the by-laws to remove the 3rd VP and Financial Secretary positions. The positions are not needed and are not at the National or State level so it begs to ask the why do we need them? These positions drain $165,000 EACH a year. Why are we paying over $300,000 in salary a year for positions that neither the National or State lodge need? The cancer of city politics has bleed in to the FOP. Time to start righting the ship.

The Police as I recall are supposed to stop and request proof of permit to sell when they see these.

Just like a Platform performer on CTA property has to have a Permit...so do these vendors. They also have to have State Issued ID or DL to prove the License they have is actually Theirs.

The problem is that is some 'community leaders' and aldermen put 'pressure' on the Street PO's to leave the illegals and unlicensed alone.

Driving the Speed limit isn't actually the issue here.

The Issue is that Speed Limits in Chicago are artificially Low based upon Engineering studies done by people that don't owe their jobs to CDOT or Rahm.

All Streets in Chicago Default to 30 MPH due to lack of signage of a different higher rate. Stretches of Irving and Western and Ashland and Kedzie and Cicero and Belmont and Diversey and North and Roosevelt and etc are in good enough condition to justify a 40 MPH speed limit. And there are areas of Chicago that should never be above 30...and possible should be posted at 25 or 20 on residential streets.

A long ladder and a orange vest. 1 minutes up and down
For all I know he is a city worker. No readon for me to
question him. What citizen is going to call and by the time
we get the service call he will be long gone. GOA no report needed.

Everyone take their license plates off their cars starting October 1st. The only way things will change is if you make them. You want to write hard working citizens tickets then stop me. Guess what? Everyone will be affected even the off duty police. Illinois politicians are the real criminals.

How bout you coat the lens with plain ol petroleum jelly, (or KY) as the idea seems to be stick it up our asses?

I like this idea. Not really criminal damage.

I'm not wasting my KY on a speed camera

The camera company that provides these cameras is cheaper than to hire cops.

The company that provides these cameras gives money to the Democratic Criminal Combine which lines their pockets and gets them votes which cops do not.

The camera company does not require a pension which cops do.

The camera company probably will rake in millions and even billions while cops will get lawsuits that will lose the city millions and eventually billions.

Stay Safe. This is almost the start of "The Pin-boy Syndrome", but most of you have never seen or even know what a pin-boy was.

Thx for the notion of a bike rack, it's a solid plan that doesnt break any laws. Simple & sweet.
Re: the camera company. The revrunds should be clamoring with joy. Watched a brother tweeking one of the McKinley park revenue rigs yesterday.

We already have a system in place for speed enforcement- stop lights, stop signs, speed bumps...
--------------------

Question for ya Office..

How many of these Movers do you do per shift if you are not down on Calls? Or had to pull up due to your Squad Camera going Ping on a Plate? And I don't mean just the "district Traffic Unit" that does nothing but Parkers and Movers.

Failure to Yields are a State Charge. OT to County Traffic Court and the City gets Dick for revenue from the Fine. Same for drivers that blow a stop light. Same for Bike riders that do the same crap.

85% of this country are rural Americans who have hunted their whole lives. Most can give a squirrel a haircut from 100 meters. The end of times might be very bad for some people. Country boys will survive, city folk won't.
That is all.

Wouldn't waste it on Rahm either.

A sand covered condom comes to mind.

Several years ago there was someone taking them out with what turned out to be a precision, competition air rifle. I didn't realize they made them with the fps or the hardened projectile to bust something like that up. I guess they do though.

Of course the guy bragged about it and got caught.

They're up too high was in response to using petroleum jelly, not using a paintball gun.

Rahm will never be satisfied.

When these do not provide him with enough revenue (they never will) so Rahm will want more and MORE CAMERAS,

Will he spend the money on us, not!

I have an idea... Why don't we make a few replica plates of Rahm's and His Ole lady's license plates, put it on a car, wear a mask to conceal your identity and then blow past each and every red light and speed camera???
