More Illinois Job Losses

  • The owner of Gurnee’s Kenall Manufacturing Co., a leader in commercial lighting, said the decision to move his company — and 400 jobs — to Kenosha was based on the future needs of the business, not just the economic incentives offered by Wisconsin.

  • This week alone, Wisconsin has bagged two from Lake County. In addition to Kenall, Hanna Cylinders of Libertyville said it planned to relocated its operations and 100 jobs to Pleasant Prairie.

While the two moves may still be viewed as a trickle, observers pointed out that over the years a coterie of Lake County companies have opened facilities across the border. The list includes Hospira, Jelly Belly Candy, Rust-Oleum and Cherry Electric, now part of ZF Industries.

At least they have the means to move and vote with their feet! $$

We don't have that option, unfortunately!

But when I retire, I'm gone from Illinois, too!

"Illinois - Caught in the Detroit Vortex."

That's because Illinois didn't jump on Obama's idea that we build a high-speed rail link between Chicago and Detroit.

    That would have saved us.

    Not to worry.

Under Keynesian economics Broken Window theory, the real job creators are the people doing the shooting, robbing, raping in the sanctuary city.

Don't get in the way of the people creating jobs. They should get tax breaks, yeah?

    Everything here is backwards.

When someone gets shot it forces money to change hands. The faster money changes hands as measured by something called the velocity of money it makes GDP increase. So we can say the economy is growing which implies that everyone has a better standard of living.

The faster the velocity of money the higher the GDP!

Someone gets shot. The first responders maybe get some O/T, the er docs, the pharma companies, the hospitals all start cranking out bills and companies like Rahm's friends at Accretive Health get more clients to harass on how they are going to pay the bills. See?

Someone gets their Apple product picked BAM there's $550 worth of economic activity right there.

Chances are if you have an Iphone you have a half-way decent job to go out and buy a new one. Apple loves it!

Look at the GDP growing!! That's all the politicians care about.

If someone rips off a school of 500 Ipads. It's like a dream come true for Apple. Some insurance company or some bleeding hearts after hearing a "it's for the children" speech will buy replacements. Cha-ching!

So if you are a corp. exec doing lobbying in Chicago and making campaign donations -- why on earth would you want that crime to stop?

That crime is making you money.

I know it's sick but it is what it is.

So enter Garry's "Broken Windows" crime fighting policy and who does he want to target?

Well, people urinating in public for one of course. Is it any surprise?

See there's no velocity of money change there. People throwing cigarette butts out the car window. No money changing hands to the corporations there either.

Therefore we can put forth that idea that we need to concentrate on these little crimes to prevent the larger crimes from happening when in reality the corporate lobbyist don't want you to do anything about that other real crime.

We're given this dog and pony show and crocodile tears but in reality the political elite class cares not.

Ahhh but you let the shooters keep shooting look at that money changing hands. You let people get robbed look at that money changing hands.

After awhile Apple will have to hire more sales clerks from all the customers buying replacement shit that was stolen.

Someone sprays graffiti on a wall? That's a job creator right there. The clean up crew has to wipe it back off.

So you see. The shooters in Englewood and on the west side and up in Rogers Park those are Chicago's job creators.

Their actions cause an increase in the velocity of money and a follow through increase in Chicago's GDP.

Mayor Rahm is not creating any meaningful jobs of size. Ald Burke, Gov Quinn, Madigan...no-no, it's the 100,000 gang members that hold the economic keys to this city.

We didn't even talk about the tourist attracted here from illicit drug sales and how that money after changing hands in effect at some point is injected back into the legit mainstream economy.

Broken Windows Keynesian economics Google it -- that's what I think we're running here.

Google "Layoffs" in the news section.

The nation is up against the debt ceiling once again and the next Tsunami of layoffs are starting to roll in.

We are expected to run out of money by Nov.

If only we had a war or something that we can use as a tool to increase this debt ya know?

Cuz supporting the troops is the next best hearts and minds speech than it's for the children.

We are now spending $18 dollars in borrowing to create $1 of GDP to 'kick-start" the economy.

Makes a lot of sense to keep doing it, yeah?

Do you think if we raise the debt ceiling another trillion and blow that money by doing more corporate bailouts and providing bankers 1% loans it's gonna make a difference?

GDP has become a measure of money changing hands between the corporate elite and the politicians campaign coffers. GDP growth doesn't mean shit to the middle class slob on the street.

A rising GDP promotes this fallacy that we are all going to have a better standard of living. That there are opportunities out there. We are growing..blah..blah.

Isn't everything just wonderful!! We all can be somebody now!!

Except for one thing. Why's the number of people on Food Stamps in Illinois growing at a 14.7% annual rate with over 2 million on the program. I ran the numbers the other day and for about every 2.77 people working in Illinois we have a person on food stamps.

    How ya like that growth?

    Actually two things.

Also why is Illinois Civilian Labor force declining by an average of 20,000 workers per month for the last five months? That's 1.5% so far and if it continues it will be 4% for the year.

Make it three things. So I lied..

Why is it that we hear these feel good stories about additions to Chicago's non-farm payroll data like we are creating jobs yet the BLS"S own report now shows the number of EMPLOYED in Chicago is LOWER than the non-farm payroll number reported.

    How is that possible?

A non-farm payroll number is not what we think it is I guess. At least according to the BLS definition.

    Think about that.

A LOT of jobs and companies have gone over the border.

And what about the Ford plant on Torrence Ave.? That has gotten to be a BIG problem and yet no one is talking about it.

The rumor has it that it may shut down if they can open up assembly somewhere else- like Ohio or Michigan (not Detroit though).

Too many problems and we are becoming "Detroited". No jobs, no economy, just a lot of welfare recipients.

That is because as the middle class disappears, MANY homes are being bought for cash.

AND don't forget the Government program that allowed investors to buy foreclosed homes in 1,000, 5,000 and 10,000 lots.

And so the exodus of Companies, Corporations, JOBS, oh -- and Tax Revenue -- from Illinois and local communities continue. Thanks gov Potato-Head, you imbecile.

The thing is they're not just moving across the border they're fleeing IL from all over, or just closing down local offices (buildings), period. Like one did in my SW Suburb this year. Thanks gov Potato-Head, you asshole.
-- In my village we have a huge 'new' industrial park and our long time previous mayor worked his butt off over many years creating that park, developing it, and getting businesses to move there, and it was successful. Major well known Co's-Corps have moved in with Corp HQs, Distribution Centers, Warehouses, and such. But thanks to Gov Asshole one major Corporation, Allstate Insurance closed down its Midwest Call Center they had there this spring and 200 jobs (or 400?) just disappeared along with the Tax Revenue. So now the brand new fucking office building sits empty. Thanks gov Shit-for-brains.

But what's coming up for all of Illinois may be the worst ever. There was rumblings this spring that State Farm Insurance is thinking of leaving IL due to taxes. If that happens Turn-Out-The-Lights, it's over. State Farm IS an IL Company and Bloomington (Bloomington/Normal) IS State Farm. Those who don't work at ISU (IL State Univ) work at State Farm, in short the whole town, and if State Farm goes, Bloomington goes and everyone and their brother -- for hundreds of miles -- will be looking to the state for welfare due to all the jobs lost directly and indirectly.

That could push Illinois over the financial edge.
Thanks gov Potato-Head, you c--ks**king simpleton.

Sure does, especially when baby momma's be crack whores and baby daddy's be in prison. I always found it easy to stay out of prison and never had to blame it on my race. I simply chose not to make my living doing burglaries and robberies or selling dope. It's worked so far.

Well this is what happens when you have a corrupt government running a state let alone the City of Chicago. I don't blame these companies from moving. As for the housing market, with a small handful of new hires that must reside here don't seem much demand. More city employees are retiring than getting replaced by new hires. So not much demand for homes. I don't even see people relocating here because jobs are moving out. This will be the new Detroit within the next five to ten years. It will be filled with illegals and welfare recipients. Way to go you asshats in Springfield and City council!

No mention about those other jobs that left the state, Remember the $150 million Illinois was going to get from taxing Amazon and other internet companies?

    http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2013-04-04/opinion/ct-oped-0404-amazon-20130404_1_amazon-tax-tax-fairness-illinois-department

Cullerton positioned the Amazon tax as good for Illinois' struggling economy: "House Bill 3659 will help spur economic activity and job growth within the state," he said, adding that the tax would generate $150 million, which would "prevent millions of dollars in cuts to public safety, health care, and education."

As it turned out, the tax did spur economic growth — in other states.

After the law was enacted, businesses fled. Overstock.com and Amazon.com ended their relationships with Illinois-based marketing affiliates. Chicago-based CouponCabin moved to Indiana. And FatWallet.com, which had been headquartered near Rockford for three years, skipped the border to Wisconsin.

"The so-called Amazon tax was misguided," said Brent Shelton, a spokesman for FatWallet.com. "(It) did little to increase the competitiveness of the local merchants it was purportedly designed to protect. It's primary result was to cause businesses like ours to leave the state."

Each of these companies took with them people, jobs and money.

    And the $150 million?

The actual money generated by the law was much less. According to the Illinois Department of Revenue, the law generated just $3.8 million between July 2011 and January 2012. The state was on pace to net $6.4 million from the tax by the end of the fiscal year. This law, billed by one of Illinois' top political leaders as a step toward solving Illinois' economic and fiscal problems, failed to achieve even 5 percent of its intended target.

Not LEO, Doing the Crook County 2 step. First moved to Will county but was stuck working in Crook county. Family owned Business but as time went on and 3rd Generation came in , the work ethic went down and the Consultants came in. Looking for the quick fix instead of looking in the Mirror to see what the real problem was the business started to go down the shitter. What hampered development and capital spending were the unfucking believable property taxes adn the rest of the Crook county taxes. So after many years there moved to a Co in Indiana, wow instant raise and better work environment and a business that could afford to expand, while beating the shit out of it's Illinois competition. Now I go find a place in St. John, have the same taxes better standard of living , lifetime conceal carry & cruise into retirement. And that is the true Illinois Vortex effect

Governor Potatohead is losing Companies and solid Taxpaying Illinoisans like crazy, due to his Communist/Socialist/Democrat Re-Distribution of Wealth philosophies. Soon there will be only part-time jobs, which is a scheme by the Democommies to make ALL citizens dependent on the Government, ala obamacare. The offers by the Government look tempting, but once everyone is roped in, then they have their elimination of the Middle Class, and totalitarian Government, that will only give you what they see fit, and no more, and there will be no real jobs to make up the difference, ala Castro's Cuba, and Venezuela. Of course the Regime will live like kings, and the working poor will continue to be fleeced. Quinn-tato and the rest of the Illinois Communist Regime are all part of it, and they're all the same. They're gonna do their best to cover it up, but none the less, that is their Agenda. They're ALL Corrupt Thieves, who rape the Taxpayers, and move on, like the parasitic Vultures they are. Beware you Sheeple Democrat Block Voters, once the money runs out, do you think you are gonna continue to get these free [Taxpayer Paid For] perks, or do you think the Government big-wigs are gonna get it? If solid Taxpayers keep moving to Indiana, Arizona, Florida, Wisconsin, and such, You are gonna be livin in Detroit the 2nd, but your Democrat Politician Buddies you supported won't. Like the typical DUMB Sheeple you are, who fall for the Regimes rhetoric over and over, time and time again, they will live high off the Hog, and YOU will get the crumbs and leftovers.. They already ALL own homes outside Illinois, that they bought with YOUR Tax Dollars, for future residency, when the total collapes happens. They move on, and You are stuck. Welcome to the State version of the City of Detroit.
