Off Duty PPO Injured

At last report, in a medically induced coma:
  • A PPO was hit by a car while crossing the street in rosemont last night. Car did not stop at the scene, the PPO has less than a year on the job and is currently in a medically induced coma due to skull fractures.
Anyone have an update? Prayers for his recovery.

Officer SM is doing much better and is alert. He's also taking calls and visitors. Extensive injuries, but NOT life threatening. He has a strong friendship base in 025 and a great supportive family.

Normally a hit-and-run on a police officer generates some media attention. . . .

Rahm's propaganda office must be against letting the herd know this info. . .

Get well PPO.

You're absolutely right! On top of this not getting news. The blue line crash is getting very minimal coverage. Any other city, these would be headline news

Best post. I often wondered why we as P.O's don't have a fund set up for these types of incidents. I would be willing to throw a few buck a check into an account to help each other out. Now I know others wouldn't but some of us would, it would relieve a lt of stress on u and our families. Just a thought.

Great news! Hope he heals quickly and fully!

Rosemont has several street view cameras around the entertainment district ( I'm guessing that's where this happened )so hopefully the driver can be crucified!

In theory, it's a nice idea, but as I'm sure you're well aware, coppers will fuck up anything good. Call me a pessimist, but I envision a scenario where an officer "in need" collects money when they're really not in need. I'd be much more comfortable donating on a case by case basis. It's like guys pushing benefit tickets on you for a buddy that got locked up because of off duty bullshit.

It just happened, asshole. Why don't you wait a bit to see if anyone does anything. Better yet, if you are so concerned, do something yourself, even something as simple as passing the hat at roll call or set up a donation can at the desk?

Nah, much easier to point fingers and complain.

Who said he is in need. He has strong family support and support from the 025 and with the year medical, he can be off work for a year at full pay and with the city's health insurance he will only have to pay a max of $1,500 out of pocket expense.
Terrible accident, but being on the CPD is alot better than most jobs that give you 12 sick days and a high health insurance deductible and a max out of pocket expense of $5,000 or higher

Well said sir, copper' will do the above. Seen ot over 30 years ago and was like that way before then.
Place feeds on duty copper' for zip and then an asshole brings his 10 kids into the place looking for the same.
I seen many a monies go South for many a benifit. Open a bank account and send money in the hurt coppers name is the WTG.
A million stories about coppers in the Naked city and this is just one of them.
To the PPO, may Sy Michael heal you, many a copper is praying for you son.

I have a check for the PPO when the time is ready. But any info on the offending vehicle? I know there are lots of cameras in that area and also at Rivers Casino
parking lots. Look for that vehicle to be possibly reported stolen.

Check the facts again before you speak. He was on the job less than a year. He missed out on medical leave if I am not mistaken. Next, when a PO suffers very serious injuries, there are numerous expenses not covered by medical. I know from experience.

What I've seen elsewhere is a "bank" of time, donated by the membership. Someone in needs appeals to the membership to use some for an emergency medical reason. Membership takes it up at a union meeting and looks into the member's history. If there is a history of medical abuse etc. membership is advised and votes yes or no.

Obviously it would be on a case by case basis, as needed, member's who know the person would be expected to speak for or against.

It works elsewhere. That was in Metro-Dade.

Rosemont is extremely dangerous to pedestrians. A few weeks ago, a woman was hit & killed crossing Bryan Mawr and River Road. That area needs police presence to stop speeding vehicles and also better pedestrian walk ways; not cops directing traffic by the convention and taking wedding photos
