Another Arrest in Lewis Killing

  • The third man charged in the 2011 slaying of Chicago Police Officer Clifton Lewis shot Lewis after he announced he was a police officer when two gunmen entered the Austin convenience store where Lewis was working the night he died, prosecutors said today.

Alexander Villa, 25, has been charged with first-degree murder of a peace officer, aggravated battery and armed robbery with a firearm in the slaying of Lewis on Dec. 29, 2011. In a bond hearing midday Saturday, Cook County Criminal Court Judge Israel Desierto ordered Villa held without bail.

Family members of Lewis in court today wept during the hearing.
Almost two years of methodical and painstaking work. Well done to all involved.

A Huge Congrats CPD...you got the criminal now we wager and wonder, will the judge keep the criminal in prison? Our courts are crime courts...even the judges are in on it saying 'you got me'....they all need to be kicked out...justice is to be fair not just for the moment. Without the death penalty, toss the keys and keep the criminals locked up for hardened crimes ie, murder, rape and other atrocities. Banish and Out-law Judges!!!! They mostly are not doing their job.

I don't know if "journalists" Adam Sege or Anne Sweeney write their own headlines, but the original one from earlier said a 3rd person was "charged in cop's DEATH". Now it's a KILLING. These useless lib hacks still can't find it in their empty hearts to call it what it is--MURDER.

What a joke our juvenile system has become.

    ---------------------------------

In county juvenile detention, according to Jarius, the boys get to play Xbox and perfect their basketball moves. School is optional.

"I think they make it like that so you won't be scared to go to the big jail," Jarius said recently.

Good job detectives, good job. This is what makes me so darn proud to be a member of this department. The involved members worked long and hard. I am sure the case they present is going to be very thorough.

I worked in 025 that day. It was a sad, sad, sad day for all of us. I will never forget the look of shock and grief upon the many officers that were on scene. Some of the officers who knew him personally took it very hard.

Rest in eternal peace and may the Good Lord watch over your family.

I've been there myself, and I know what this does to loving families. Its still a hollow feeling because he cant come back, he wont be home for the holidays, but at least there is a conclusion. My heart goes out to the family of the officer.

This is where an investigating officer has a vocation and not just a job.

No sympathy or outrage from the public on the brutal slaying of a Police Officer but just read all the big tough liberal cougar lovers on the shooting of a mountain lion on a farm in Illinois by a conservation officer. Oh jeez, a PO, not a peep, but a cougar, they want to string up the conservation officer. If it gets like the one in 019, the officer will get death threats etc in coming weeks from the animal rights nazis.

CHECK OUT COOK COUNTY SHERIFF WEBSITE. First thing that pops up is that 35% of inmates in jail have mental illness. Click on it and it states that "On any given day, between 25-30 percent of the inmates at Cook County Jail suffer from mental illnesses. The majority of these inmates are in jail for nonviolent offences closely associated with their mental health issues and would be far better served by treatment rather than incarceration." CAN YOU BELIEVE SUCH A POLITICAL STATEMENT ON A COUNTY JAIL WEB SITE? PLEASE TELL YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY NEVER TO VOTE FOR DART.

    This reminded me of something.
Can anyone give an update on Kevin Dean, the murderer of Officer James Camp who was acquitted by a Cook County jury? Is he still in jail? Anyone know when he's getting out? This travesty bothers me still. I just wanted to get an update on this animal's status.

I know he appealed his sentence and ended up getting 28 years but in Cook County you never know.

Tom Dart is going to win again. He agrees completely with Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle. That there are too any black and brown folks in jail. The best way to alleviate such travesties is to bond most of them out. What a fucked up state we are living in.

Those working this case are the heroic cops that give me hope for this department. The job they did is simply magnificent police work. I became involved quite by accident. The investigators and ASA's worked this one right, no doubt about it.

Um, they aren't ever going to write that it's murder -- nor should they -- until someone is convicted of murder. Murder is a legal term. Journalists are trained to use terms like killing, slaying, fatal shooting, etc. until the legal term "murder" actually applies. I'm sorry that upsets you, but that is what "journalists" do. This was clearly a horrible event and I agree the officer was murdered, but the journalists are correct to hold off on using that legal term at this time.

Oh please glory hound. You must work in gangs or fugitive... The disc are the ones to get praise. When you make an arrest for murder, robber or a shooting and were told to find the bad guy by the detectives doesn't mean you " worked or solved" the case.. You don't do the legwork like the dics.. That's what I love about when I walk into the area.. The area gang investigation teams and fugitive are circling the dics like vultures waiting for an alert to come out.. Mits not police work, it's finding someone.. Bounty hunters and private investigators do it all day everyday. You really didn't solve a homicide you just were the bag man for the detectives.. I love seeing 10 guys on an arrest or press inference etc and hearing the department commendations for those.. So yes, the detectives did a great job.. Everyone else just did their job

While it's great news that this savage is caught, I still find it unpleasant that some dic's are doing an end zone self congratulatory dance here especially when the clearance rate in the D unit is below 35%. How bout just doing the job and waiting until this asshole is convicted until the self congratulations start flying?

I thought this was one of those posts people put on just to get a rise out of others. I am pretty sure it isn't because I have run into guys like you my whole career. So impressed with yourself. That's good, because you don't have a lot of company in that regard. You don't have a lot of friends either.

That being said, I've worked with a lot of great Dics over the years. I've worked with a lot of great uniforms too. You guys know who you are (quietly). Good job one and all.

No, sorry poster three, it is you who are wrong. Murder is a legal term and until someone is convicted of murder, we're not calling it a murder. I'm sorry that hurts you but language is important. You don't tell us how to do our business and we won't tell you -- wait a minute, uh, we probably will continue to tell you how to do yours.

The biggest piece isn't more important than the smallest piece, because without either the picture isn't complete.....great work to anyone who had a piece of this puzzle- a million thanks, AND also to the officers who hold a piece of an even bigger puzzle every single day.

Um 11/24/13 2:07am-try sucking your head out of your butt. Villa was charged with first degree murder, which is what the headline should be. It most assuredly is inaccurate as "Another Arrest in Lewis Killing". Factoid: Officer Lewis was murdered, agreed at issue is by whom until conviction. By the way, I dispute that journalists are trained at a craft or trade. They are merely indoctrinated in a way to think and parrot that within their respective media. Thanks to CPD for great police work. If these shit heads gun down a policeman like that, exactly what chance to we average citizens have at safety in our own neighborhoods. Some day I will get called for jury duty again and if the evidence is good, I am voting to lock some asshole up for as long as possible...AGAIN.
