Boot Camp "Less Effective"

The timing of this study couldn't have been much better - of course, the article was written by Frank Main, the same writer who covered the judges sending felons to boot camp in violation of state statute:
  • Gun offenders sentenced to boot camp are more likely to be rearrested than those sent to prison, a new analysis suggests.

The findings come two months after a mass shooting at a South Side park raised questions about why one of the suspects was sent to boot camp instead of prison for an earlier gun-possession conviction.
The answer to that question is simple - if you reward (or fail to punish) bad behavior, you get more of it. Lots more of it in most cases. Boot camp isn't punishment...or rather, it's not punishment enough.

Study after study after study confirms it. It's not only observable in the criminal justice system, but in economic models, too. And social. If you don't think the increases in "wilding" along with the knock-out game aren't directly related to the lack of tangible punishment, then you're out-of-touch.

Get tough on criminals...its about time, its called 'tough love'. In the end, it will most likely save criminals from life in prison or the death chair....too bad if they are punished, one who does wrong must pay...no matter if you were abused as a baby or if U have another excuse..tough love..that's how to raise children and how to raise goofs who go against the law...can't folks see that? Forget other habits of life, ie race, gender etc...put perpetrators away for a reasonable time accordingly to fit the crime...other-wise there is no civilized society.

If Judges won't enforce necessary punishment, Get Rid of Them!!!! Fast and Furious!!!! The time has come.

Liberals, progressives, democrats have strange ideas on crime and punishment. Especially so when it comes to minorities.

The first and most important job of government is to protect the citizens. Having failed at this, the state, county and city are useless.

Government has effectively said to the citizens "we are unable/unwilling to protect you"

Just A Citizen says: WTF? They needed to do a study on this? Write an article? How effed up are these idiots? If you don't stop the "infection", it spreads. hence, if you don't lock up these criminals, they will be repeat offenders. DUH.

In the military Boot Camp is to prepare you for combat and a life of discipline. Perhaps Boot Camp like Prison is an excuse for Gang Bangers to be better trained for their Gang Membership and activities. Sort of like putting a gym in prison so they can work out and be in better shape to commit crimes when they are released. A different alternative must be developed; perhaps Relocation upon release to another part of the country or another country.

Well said, SCC. Your mentioning "but in economic models, too" goes right to these CEO's that destroy a company yet leave with a golden parachute of multimillions in case after case.

So goes the entire Country. Who in their right mind would believe disgraced politicians like Clinton, Weiner, Barry and the rest would resurface and actually run again, much less be re-elected. We deserve better from our politicians. We should demand it.

Forget this forgiveness nonsense. Forgive them in your heart if you want to but keep them out of office. Do not let these failed individuals set policy for this Country. They have proved their unworthiness and corruptibility.

They are failed individuals. Forgive a parking ticket, not a failure of character.

basically boot camp is no more or less effective then regular imprisonment. this should surprise no one given the recidivism rate.

the only thing longer terms of prison do is reduce the amount of time these thugs have to commit additional crimes out on the street by the extra time they are incarcerated.

Boot camp is designed to break someone down, then build them back up. Last thing cpd needs is a confident criminal.

Boot camp, "impact incarceration," TASC, drug court, "diversion" - all weak, tired, ineffectual gimmicks of the diseased liberal mind and its criminal justice system which is completely unable to control crime.

Nothing will change until judges stop ruling strongly on what type of lawyers they were before becoming judges and which law firms give more contributions to judges. If you were a defense lawyer your gonna be strong sided for the defedants sides. Its not rocket science its all behind the scenes scams. To bad its about the justice system and not there pockets!!!

It all starts in Juvenile Court. When there is no penalty for crime done at an early age the criminals learn that they can continue that lifestyle without fear of loss of freedom. It just carries over to adult court. How many of us have had to endure an arrestee snicker and smile after being released by the court system in this county.

Boot camp was supposed to be cheap alternative to incarceration. Help the taxpayers by saving money. And if a couple taxpayers get killed by Judge Cannon's boot camp graduates? "We'll, you got me, I don't always do what I should do," said Judge Cannon. People died and Judge Cannon acts glib. It's time for merit selection of judges.

What this article fails to mention is the misappropriation of funding in the Cook County Sheriff's Boot camp. Sheriff Dart got rid of most of the front line military guys Correctional Officer's who ran that place for years. He turned into a political 6 figure Salary dumping ground for his political cronies. He has added numerous Directors and Chief's who collect fat paychecks but have no clue how to run a effective Boot Camp. To justify their existence these political hacks started all these programs like raising chickens and placing a million dollar tax payer funded garden at the Boot camp. The inmates even think the Sheriff's Boot camp is a joke and disrespect officers still trying to do their best to run to the best of their ability. Sheriff Dart created another policy where these kids can easily report officers they think are too mean to them. Most of these old military officers have voluntarily removed themselves from the Boot camp cause they cant control the kids anymore Dart has created Lord of The Flies Boot camp. In one instance a kid told a C/O to go F his mother. When the C/O tried to punish the kid by taking away his privileges, the C/O was reprimanded by on of Sheriff Dart's many Directors at the camp. This C/O who served three tours in Afghanistan immediately put in a bid to return to the jail. The Cook County Boot camp will eventually be closed. Dart's cronies one day will have to find a real job.

    There is...

Make a Statement that the Municipality, Under the Home Rule Clause of the Illinois Constitution; the City of Chicago chooses to apply the USA Patriot Act against all illegal criminal organizations. Since it is a well known fact that 95% of all gangs and OC families are tied at some level to some terrorist organization somewhere on the planet due to laundering or drug production or weapon sales or other types of illegal act...

They can be treated like Terrorists and not common criminals...and once arrested; sent to Gitmo...and not Cook County lockup.

Crimes involving a firearm should result in 10 years imprisonment. No plea bargains. No parole. No early release. No time off for "good" behavior. No percentages served. No concurrent sentencing, nothing but the full 10 year bid.

    That'll reduce that.

Wilding should be treated like the mob action it is - call it a RICO crime and prosecute it as such since it probably involves some kind of gang. Another 10 years.

Knockout? You should get 30 years for that crap. It's such an unwarranted heinous thing - I can't wait for CCW to get to IL so people can start taking care of this problem.
