- The commander of a West Side police district is leaving to become a police chief in the suburbs — prompting an alderman to demand that Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy fill the position with a black candidate.

No, he actually has a master's degree from a real school...he just carries himself in such a sloppy and unprofessional way you wouldn't guess it. I first learned of him when he was in Maywood still then when I saw him in person at an event in 015 I was trying to figure out why he wearing gym shoes, jeans, and an un tucked button down shirt like a teenager. Jason has a ceiling already because he is trying to move up and make a name for himself too quickly with no respect for the game (however crooked it is). He's already trying to go up the ranks in the machine without putting time in. He'll more than likely be the reason for his own demise.

I am embarrassed to be in the FOP. The entire meeting was the personal fight between Shields and Dougherty. Dougherty explained how he was helping the vet get a doctors letter so he could come back full duty. The problem was Bill never addressed the issue over bringing politics into the conversation nor did he deny it. That's a problem. That said, Ervin's comments are worthless. Those comments aren't made on behalf of anyone except those that want things. People like him and his ilk aren't looking out for their constituents. If they were, things might be a little better by now...maybe.
The truth is that the majority of the people that live in 011 have no clue whether the commander is black, white, brown, yellow, blue or green. No clue! And the reality is they don't need to know and don't really care.
This comes down to people that want things and believe it will be easier to obtain those things if the person sitting in the chair is of the same skin color. This I would pay huge money to see! The entertainment value alone would be priceless. Wysinger can't tie his shoes without help and McCarthy could not handle 011 by any stretch of the imagination.
I am embarrassed to be in the FOP. The entire meeting was the personal fight between Shields and Dougherty. Dougherty explained how he was helping the vet get a doctors letter so he could come back full duty. The problem was Bill never addressed the issue over bringing politics into the conversation nor did he deny it. That's a problem. One of his minions went to the mic to actually say the letter was a sham. The problem is many of us know the officer and know the letter is true. I dont think the original poster understands the Shackman Decree. It actually allows or exempts certain individuals to be exempted from the decree. Certain city hall positions can be fired or transferred for political reasons , others can not. Commanders are in the positions that can be moved for any reason.

The easiest solution is to get the politicians out of the business of policing! We need to quickly revert to the position of keeping politics and politicians out of the police department. The district commanders should not answer to the alderman or their underlings and flunkies. The superintendent should not consult the alderman or any other politician while making operational decisions, they have no real say so. It's not law, just practiced policy. In some districts the watch commanders are told to contact the alderman about any "big" event, but in other districts watch commanders refuse to call them. They have no say so, no input and are nothing more than citizens when it comes to policing and department decisions. I work in a district where there are two alderman that always call the dss wanting special this and special attention that etc. One alderman called wanting a car and a sergeant sent out to some disturbance someone was calling him about. He kept calling and the WC finally told him he has sent a car and there is nothing illegal going on and told him to stop calling and just go to bed. I heard it myself. We need more of that to get these politicians back in their place and out of our business.

At the FOP meeting today, Marky Mark made an illegal and non binding motion to restore Billy to his Field Rep job. This is an issue that is decided by the Board of Directors, not the fifty Mt Greenwood hillbilly's that Billy brought to the meeting with him. Billy looked very nice in his brand new uniforms. He can stay in 022 where he belongs. Kevin Graham, AKA The Boystown Hedgehog, showed up with State President Ted Street in tow. Ted was brought to give an aura of legitimacy to Marky Marks crusade to save his friend Billy. All that was missing was Marks good friend and neighbor, Steve Robbins, to make an appearance, and the cast would have been complete. I wonder how Ted Street liked being used as a prop?
I guess Bill Dougherty has had enough after a few days in patrol. Dougherty and Donahue stacked the meeting and Donahue made a motion to put Dougherty back inside the FOP office. It passed. Bill didn't last very long as a blue shirt back to suits and ties. It speaks volumes fellas.
4 days working days in 022 is enough for Bill Dougherty. He's going back to FOP. Good riddance.

Imagine the slap in the face I felt back when I was looked over for promotion to sergeant for no other reason than because I am NOT black. True. We had a thing called race-norming and because of that and only because of that I lost out on my promotion.
If it was ranked by test scores I had it but it wasn't. Someone who scored many points beneath me got the promotion instead. I am retired now and lost out on the sergeants pension.

THATS the way a w/c should handle an Alderman!

Funny you should mention that. I sat in Mike McCotter's office for 45 minutes when he was commander of 025. Suarez called 3 times within that 45 minutes on Mike's private line, demanding tickets be written and in one of the 3 calls, a P.O. be removed from a foot post. Mike simply said, "no," "no," and "no" to him, very politely and then said "goodbye Alderman" and hung up. Bosses like McCotter and DeSalvo were old school and knew how to talk to ... or ignore these idiot aldermen.

Both of you are wrong. Has nothing to do with the net after taxes or posting the wrong amount. I can tell you it is that they post your pension at the time you retire and do not include or update and COLA increases. I am positive about that because my pension is listed at what I received when I retired, a while back
