Rahm's Speed Camera Trap
- Speed cameras around Chicago schools and parks have churned out more than 2,700 tickets and 324,000 warning notices during the first month of enforcement, but 90 percent of speeders have not been nailed twice.
Those 2,722 tickets add up to $245,160 in fines during the first 30 days the cameras issued violations.
Let's just assume that the collection rate on those tickets is 100%. Unrealistic, but just for arguments sake. That's only $2.9 million collected in a year.
We going to imagine that the crews are going to be pulling double and triple shifts to get as many cameras up and running so Rahm can get his $70 million that has already been spent in the 2014 budget.
That 90% non-repeater number is disturbing though - people are slowing down, which is safer, but that means speeding cameras might be going the way of red-light cameras shortly - not generating revenue at the predicted rate, leading to even larger budget shortfalls.

I drive e/b past the one on Peterson at the river around 1500. I wounded when it would go operational and knew it had the day all traffic slowed to 20mph.
I haven't seen it catch anyone.
The City has to make up for my Amazon and Dupage County purchases.
90 percent one-time offenders and the 10 percent repeat offenders will prolly not pay the fines.
tow their cars, take away their transportation for the non-payers and the city loses the gas tax, the wheel tax, and the offender just may have no way to get to work.
i think it's been published that something like 72 percent of america is living paycheck to paycheck. you can't get money from someone that doesn't have it and just one of these tickets could push someone over the edge.
"Rahm Lied! Mayor's 'Children's Fund' from speed camera fines doesn't exist in his budget - Money to go to general spending fund"

Next the cameras will be "accidentally" set wrong and drivers at or barely above will get tickets. It has been done before and this is Chicago.
I read the ticket proceeds are supposed to be for the "children", for education, jobs, and stuff to keep them out of trouble, but it really isn't. Per the Trib, there is no children's fund. Instead it will go into the mayor's and aldermen's slush funds. If so, I hope they don't get shit.
time to move
Get Trapster app on your smart phones to fight this money grabbing idiot!
Heard on the news this morning that it's not about the children. IT'S ABOUT BALANCING THE BUDGET.
Voter pressure has banned speed and red light automatic tickets in 30 cities recently and they are liberal cities.
Alert!!!! Mayor Rahm Speed Camera Trap at 3500 block of Western Ave. northbound and southbound next to Lane Tech taking pictures! U all have been warned!
When you put these cameras in a working class area where people are barely making it and the fines are outrageous, and us hating Rham, people are gonna drive a little better not to feed his friends pockets
More Rahmsense.
While on the issue of crime in general, is there any evidence that Polar Bear Hunting, or the Knockout Game is being played in Chicago?
The shortfall that will be realized is due to rahm's arrogance. Being the elitist that he is, rahm doesn't think the serfs of Chicago are capable of learning to not "burn" themselves.
Well rahm, start warming up your anti-city-employee rhetoric. You know, where you cry poor and demand give backs.
maybe we will just avoid Chicago. Businesses take note.
I wonder how many of the people caught are still speeding - but along a route that does not have a camera. That's the easiest way to avoid a fine once stung.
I am sure there are many apps out there but I have the iCobra app on my smart phone which is free. It has all the RLC locations in the city and it's starting to get the speed camera locations updated. RLC database is very accurate with very good warning system.
My advice to all iPhone and Android users: Download it or something similar and keep your money.
Speed cameras and red light camera operate like the self checkout lanes down at the supermarket. They allow the city to operate with less employees. I never see anybody pulled over for movers any more. I think the drivers of Chicago know this. They are getting bolder.
Question ! Maybe someone else can answer this ! Why is it that the Rail Road Police have no powers of arrest (except Metra and Amtrak) CSX,UP,BNSF,NS are given the title Special Agent. Although CPD and the Suburban police have to process and arrest the people they detain. Now I know they are mostly certified police officer or commissioned by the RR. I am not sure if they are even an accredited police agency with actuall powers of arrest. Are they just loss prevention or as they say resource protection a grade above store security officers/armed! I would like to hear your opinions.

he's the tiny dancer with his hands in your pants- with all the great ideas thats don't seem to ever last. He's mad at the budget and he is mad at France but you better watch your nickles and not his tiny dancer dance. He twirls and he spins for the cameras like a top- knocking people over cause his spinning never stops. Even losing money we must pay for his show...the tiny dancer dances until his curtains close. (which hopefully will be soon.)
[ "If it's for the kids, my friends will build it"- Rahm2016]
Remember the Seinfeld episode when George gave out cards that said "A donation has be made on your behalf to The Human Fund". His boss Krueger says, "George, you gave me a fake Christmas gift"
We need a Mayor or a new liar. How else without 'the kids' to fill in the of years of malfeasance in The Shortshanks ledgers.
Trapster app
Great app get it. It's free not like the ticket you'll get.
The camera at 615 w 127th street was flashing like crazy the 1st week, but people have caught on and now we all slow down. The only violators are the trucks that drive pass or the few who dont live in the area.
They tried there best to hide the camera between several lightpoles..ha ha
yes always make sure if you are taking a different route anywhere in the city to always double check for the locations of the speed cameras. simply type in "chicago speed camera locations". i hope everyone is careful and this is yet another failed project for the money-grabbing weasel rahmie.
Foster comes go a grinding hault right between the lights west of Pulaski too. He gonna have to move them soon...lol what a dick bag this mayor is...
I thought these were to be operational only during school hours, when children are present. If it was to protect the children, they could have installed speed bumps.
There is one solution for this. If everyone ticketed simply asked for an "in person hearing"(which the law allows) the system would back up like a stuck pipe. Red light and speed camera traps would end over night because the volume could not be accommodated by the court. Let Police do their jobs and issue tickets to real offenders with face-to-face citations. All the offender has to do is say it wasn't them driving the car and provide the court with a name of the person driving for them to case down. These laws are very flawed.
Fool me once...
I don't agree with Rahm but I really don't see the problem with either camera, red light or speed and I've paid my share of red light tickets. Don't break the law and you won't get a ticket.

Try an experiment. Slow down to 26mph when you're n/b Pulaski at about 4630 north. All the cars and trucks will pull to the right, the drivers will give you a nasty look, then they hit the gas to roar past you.
Flash, flash. Flash, flash.
Coming next to Chicago are "NOSE PICKING" tickets that will generate $$$$ around city hall.
My 007 license plate flipper is in the works...
I like then. They play no favorites, everybody who speeds gets tickets.
OK Lets look at the upside here.
324 thousand plus warning notices issued so far via first class mail.
At this rate the cash flow problem at the post office will be cleared up in no time.

Love that. I did it today, only going west on foster. I slow down, the swing around a flash. Just trying to hook people up... as much as I love watching the jag off get a ticket, its less satisfying because I know where the money is going.

Around Parks the Hours are Longer.
Think it's 6am to 11pm if within .8 mile of a Park.

So you are intentionally getting your fellow citizens tickets that tax them even more. Nice guy. Had you been around at the Boston Tea Party, I guess you would have stood on shore and yelled at Americas Patriots on the boat so they got caught.
You are a first class ball bag. Not the Bronx Ballbag, but close.
this city is turning into one middle class meat grinder--- double city water and sewer tax, red light cameras, speed cameras, highest sales tax and gasoline tax in country, highest cigarette tax, murder capital of usa, alienated organized labor work force, one of the shittiest public school systems in the country--- a lot to look forward to as you try to own and maintain a home and raise a family here....
To 3:21pm actually I'm 44 yrs old and on the Job for 22yrs I may not be a old timer but I'm not a kid, real simple don't break the law don't get fined.
Do these cameras do both sides of the street? I was the only one around going Southbound on Western by Warren Park and the strobes on the Eastside of Western were going crazy.

Happened to me today, too, w/b Foster. Guy jumped the light, n/b to w/b, out of the left turn lane.
It's a wet street, there's a construction crew working in the middle of Foster, forcing traffic into one lane w/b. He hits the gas, anyway. Flash-flash.
The new handicap placard is going to be the next cash cow for the city.
