CCSO Killed Off Duty

  • An off-duty Cook County sheriff's investigator was fatally shot while breaking up an armed robbery outside a family holiday party Friday night in west suburban Bellwood, police said.

Authorities said Cuauhtemoc Estrada, a 50-year-old former Marine, had been attending a family gathering at the Veterans of Foreign Wars hall, which is located on 30th Street of St. Charles Road.

Shortly after 7:30 p.m. he stepped outside and witnessed an armed robbery taking place in the building's parking lot, said Andre Harvey, Bellwood's director of public safety.

The sheriff's officer attempted to intervene and was shot in the chest while reaching for his weapon, Harvey said at the scene early this morning, as investigators remained on the street collecting evidence.
Sympathies to his family and coworkers. RIP Officer.

Poor health changes EVERYTHING. If you are well this holiday season, be very thankful. Spread that around.

If you know someone that is not well, visit, help, be upbeat. There truly is nothing that is more important.

This officer got dealt a bad hand.

Sadly this LEO is the 100th LOD for the year. While each death is tragic to the families, this is one of the lowest LOD death years in Decades.

Wear your seat belt and your vest. Hopefully we can continue to drop that number down to the teens.

Please keep us informed of any donations/fundraisers for the family. From the looks of it on the news, he has 3 beautiful daughters that will in all likelihood need financial support for college (not to mention everything else).

Godspeed Officer Estrada.

If you are gonna take action off duty or retired have your shit in hand cuz the bad guy will have his shit ready. Better judged by 12 then carried by 6. Don't ID your self as the police until every thing is done.Only Dirty Harry can get away with that shit. You shouted POLICE STOP FREEZE<DROP YOUR GUN or some other shit.Witnesses will remember some one yelling POLICE. It'll be you the cop hopefully.

"When society no longer has individuals such as officer Estrada evil will prevail."

12/21/2013 11:43:00 PM

True...

Here's an observation...
Society no longer WANTS individuals such as officer Estrada.

Officer Estrada and others like him who serve and protect are holders of old fashioned, out moded ideals like duty, a true sense of justice, decency and integrity.

These ideals can't be monetized, tampered with or filtered through P.C. run amok.

But the people who hold those ideals can be made to go away because they're reminders of how low, mean and hellish society has become...

"People sleep peacefully in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf"

Bless this Officer for trying to take a stand.

Society is poorer without him but society really doesn't care.
