We saw that the Department posted a notice for resumes and letters for people wanting to go to the airport last week. That means they're going to have a major influx of manpower - last time we think it was 25 bids and 25 phone calls. It was the biggest movement to the airport in history and you needed something like 22 years to even come close.

One of two plans will be implemented in the next three weeks.
1. Executive Officer to be assigned after the LT. promotions next week. PTS CO to 020 and 020 CO back to Area Central (plan all along)
2. PTS Supervisors and PO 's will be returning to District law enforcement and the straight time Special Employment program will handle all the trains and buses.
Compstat numbers prove that the majority of activity is being produced by officers not even assigned to PTS, and this is the favorite option right now which will free up approximately 20 supervisors and over 100 officer, in addition to vehicles. PTS Tact officers will have the option to transfer to a District team or limited Area teams based on availability.
PTS has no one to blame but themselves after numbers guru Tracey has witnessed what a waste of money PTS has become with zero return! Stevie Wonder could have seen this years ago. Too many complaints of not seeing officers on trains or in stations for years will probably be the reason the Unit will be disbanded.
SWAT is getting ready to take over the Airport, Marine and Mass Transit Detail. What that means is SWAT after the testing process will be assigned to Mass Transit Detail called the Torch Detail. The Airport called the Guardian Detail and the Marine Unit called the Trident Detail. SWAT will be intermingled with us regular cops and SWAT will be training us like FTOs. This is going to be way cool. We will be able to wear the SWAT Uniform but sometimes will be in plain clothes. This way CPD will be able to receive millions of dollars from the Feds for Terrorism. Sounds like it's going to be like the elite NYPD ESU Team. NYPD has one of the best SWAT teams in the world. Also they are bringing New York SWAT operators to train the CPD SWAT. Supt is pissed off that the job on LSD took so long and NYPD ESU will teach these guys how to respond. This is one of the reasons the standards to come on a SWAT are being lowered to allow for more operators to come on SWAT. That is why four more Lt's are being interviewed. One will be at O'hare Aviation North and Aviation South Midway SWAT , and one at the Marine SWAT Unit, one at the Mass Transit SWAT Team. Interesting concepts. I'm just happy I'll be getting training in hijacks and counter terrorism from the Israelis. I've been running and shooting so I'm ready for the SWAT test. Bring it!!!!!

Sorry but the best civilian law enforcement SWAT team in the USA is the FBI Hostage Rescue Team. Those guys represent the global gold standard. They even smoke the DEA FAST Teams and the Secret Service CATT. The only guys that can honestly compete against them are the Army CAG and the Navy's DEVGRUP. As far as state and local police departments LAPD SWAT holds the leadership banner in the USA in terms of selection standards, innovation and leadership. NYPD ESU however has a good reputation for handling urban crime isuues etc. Enough Said. If you want a fool proof kinetic option call the HRT! GOD Bless all those who serve and protect.

Does this mean Tactical Barbie will make a comeback? Or some of the women who can't hit an elephant from 10 feet will finally make it???
What are you smoking talking about SWAT takingover the airports and trains, you are a real dreamer, they have Lt's at the airports already, they just need more officers assigned to O'Hare, that is a disaster waiitng to happen out there, too too much free movement around the outside areas of the airport, and they spend all this money training aviation police why not arm the qualified officers, not the 75 yr old dogasses out there.The SWAT Team is not the badguy on Lake Shore Drive, the deputy in charge and the district commanders of the involved districts should have developed a plan along with the bosses from OEMC to re-route the traffic. Quick Simple Fix would have had this done in one hour, just direct northbound and southbound off at the exits.before . Problem is the entitled citizens who beef about being inconvenienced along with our Northshore big money drivers.location.

As for the TORCH Teams that are working tht are being referenced, it is a $5.5 Grant given up by PTS to Homan Square. The SWAT guys are working 4 hour tours on their days off at time and a half. Morning Rush and Evening Rush hours. So just remember that when all you District guys, Bike Units, PTS K9 are working side by sie with the SWAT guys on those "missions". the federal grant money is already here, despite what 100 thinks or tells you.

Israeli law enforcement and military know their stuff inside and out. They have to fight the radical Muslims just about everyday. Plus Israel is our one and true only friend in the world today.
maybe once this happens the 150 people parked illegally at any given moment in time, in the "no stopping standing or parking" zones along the length of I-90 into O'Hare will actually get ticketed?

I'm not a police officer but I do work in the loop. I take the train to work everyday. I can't remember the last time I saw a police officer on a CTA train or on the waiting area. Believe me just because it's early in the morning doesn't mean the crazies aren't out. I really do hope that they do get police to come into the subway.

The original Mass Transit Unit was composed of the Task Force. The old task force was the equivalent of today's SWAT team. Task Force members were assigned to squads 8 PO's and 1 Sgt., all in the same DOG. Later the Task force became the HBT team. Containment (snipers)team members, were assigned a squad North, South, West, and Loop to patrol the CTA trains. Eventually as containment team members retired those duties were farmed out of the unit. Funny, how the PTS unit is being disbanded and now is returning to SWAT. Old ideas always work best...
