Casino Meeting - City Missing

Rahm is bound and determined to gut the pensions and raise property taxes instead of even considering a casino that might actually assist in solving the problem:
  • They said it could be “the largest casino in the world.”

    A “jewel” in Chicago’s skyline.

Or an idea whose “day was yesterday.”

Tourism boosters, corruption fighters, religious leaders and gaming lobbyists all had their say Wednesday on a proposal for a massive state-owned Chicago casino that could dwarf all others in Illinois. State lawmakers listened to their testimony during a day-long hearing held conveniently across the street from City Hall.

But Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s staff skipped the hearing — where City Hall loomed through a sixth-floor window in the Michael A. Bilandic Building — and instead told the Chicago Sun-Times “the mayor does not believe it is appropriate to talk about gaming until we have addressed pension reform.”
God forbid actually tapping a new revenue stream from out-of-towners, tourists and conventioneers that could alleviate the mess Rahm inherited but seems determined to exploit to the detriment of anyone who isn't a connected construction firm or connected casino investor. This is the asshole we're supposed to be "negotiating" with.

Rahm playing politics... And pouting. What else is new. Fact: as soon as pension reform passes the city of chicago will have a casino making the city rich. Save in pensions with reform hoard the casino cash for the city.. If a casino is built before it's a guarantee the casino money will go to pensions and the public schools which is no fun for rahm and co. A casino will allow the major mass transit expansion he wants but is keeping hush hush about. Blue line extension out to oak brook, a line connecting mdw to ohare, a blue line extension from ohare to Schaumburg, orange line out to ford city area, red line out to the gardens and yellow line running up near old orchard mall... It's a little plan that is floating around out there but is being kept very very quiet. The city needs to raise 20 billion dollars and the gov will give the rest. It is modeled after Los Angeles project. They raised income and property taxes in the county to make it happen... Don't worry rahm, I've been snooping and doing my homework.. You can't hide this little plan for too long but u need the pension problem to go away first right? Gonna be hard to justify coming up with 20 billion when you are crying broke for one billion......

The reason being, no new casino or revenue source until the concessions are made on reducing pensions. With all that revenue coming, you can't cry broke. Plus the tax from medical marjuana will be another windfall.
Rahm out and Preckwinkle or Alderman Fioretti in for new mayor! Abolish the tifs and let the dice roll Baby!

I listened to this BS on the TV news. A state-run casino a farce that's going to waste millions of taxpayer dollars in an over-saturated gambling market.

The only winners are going to be the contractors and the clouted.

This has to be the fuck job of the century. There will be books written about the destruction of the working class in Chicago for the benefit of a handful.

9.5 is dying for a casino. His TIF buckets are overflowing. Kind of like the movie BLOW. They had so much money they couldn't store it anywhere anymore.

Yet these pricks hold the whole state hostage so they can rape the taxpayers. As the article noted "and then there is Chicago Corruption, with a capital C".

Raising property taxes and cutting pension benefits is theft. There is no other way to describe it because it isn't necessary.

A Casino will not be an endless fountain of dollars for Chicago. It will never make as much money as is predicted. Aren't the same people making all these glorious estimates of casino riches the same ones that told you how much money msrijuana tickets and pole taxes would bring in? How iss the Illinois Lottery doing? Do you think ANY casino will be run cleanly in Chicago Illinois? With your current corrupt city government, and Democrat machine?

Even if a miracle happens, and saints and boy scouts run the casino, why do you think it would be successful? Look at Atlantic City, the Las Vegas of the East Coast. It is DYING, and the casinos are being run into the ground to eke out the last few bucks. And Vegas is also having hard times too.

Do you think any Chicago Casino will be safe and have a law-abiding clientele? Every South Chicago or Gary grifter, drug dealer and fast buck artist will flock to the neighborhood. Along with the strong arm robbers, sneak thieves and general criminal scum looking to take money from the mostly elderly, and often inebriated clientele.

Good Luck, because you are going to need it!

Let's be REAL honest here.

A casino - and ALL its revenues WOULD be good for Chicago. You need something to generate real cash and pay off bills that were overlooked in the past (including pension fund deposits)

Now, let's talk about the "good people", the religious ones and the "corruption fighters".

Give ME a BREAK!!! Corruption fighters?

Where have you been for the last 20 years? Corruption? A casino is pure corruption, but everything else that has happened with this city isn't?

Where were you when they cut the parking meter deal? Where were you when they cut the deals for exclusive rights for restaurants at Millennium Park for those who were in the "inner circle"? The same goes for contracts at O'Hare, city jobs, state jobs, state contracts,,,,and on and on........

WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN ON ALL THE BAD PROMOTIONS AND MERIT PROMOTIONS IN CPD?

Corruption fighters? Go stick your head back in the sand where it has been for the last 20 years.

The casino should have been on Navy Pier. (or maybe Meigs Field). Both have access to Lake Michigan which would be an ideal spot for a casino because you could put up 300-400 slips and have all the high-rollers come in on their boats from Wisconsin and Michigan to gamble. It could be a first-class operation with great lake views and access to those who have REAL money to come in and gamble.

That was my idea 25 years ago and it is still viable. As RJ Daley used to say, "Where is YOUR plan?"

Not a LEO, JAFO

$7 Million in his campaign fund.

He's scared...
Scared of losing...

Like a line from that Bruce Willis gangster movie set in the west during the 1930's

Rahm wants to be the middle-man.

"Fuck those coppers and their pension, I want a cut for me and my family forever..."

You have to be kidding?!?!?

If you are that afraid of the casino being a haven for criminals - give it to the Mob to run.

The safest casinos in Las Vegas were mob-run. NO ONE would screw with them (unless they were brain-dead)

They would make sure customers were not hassled or shaken down by any of the grifters you mention. AND - anyone trying to steal from the casino would have never made it to the door. They took care of things.

Better go watch Casino - it's more of a documentary than a movie.

Cut the fat in cpd supervisors and use money for pension fund .

Generalities are glib, but the truth is Chicago has a lot of poor minorities who are unprepared for any type of skilled labor. As for 'ready', you're quite inaccurate. They are not educated, prepared or groomed for employment.

Casinos are evil? Uh, okay. Then don't go to one. That will save your soul.

The whole long term plan is to cut expenses by reducing pension and healthcare benefits by claiming the city is broke.

Then, and only then, will a casino get approved.

The mayor will then have a boatload of money to reward who he chooses.

The answer is not a new revenue stream through a vice. Gambling is an additive just like just like drugs, alcohol and cigarettes. The dark side of the gambler’s fast life includes bankruptcy, suicide, neglect of family budgets and diverting family finances to feed the addition. Blood money. Instead of pinning all hope on a casino, how about public policy revision with the goal to create jobs and to stimulate economic growth. The problem is there are too many unemployed who wish to participate in the economy, but there is absolutely no Hope on finding gainful employment. Employment has many positive contributions aside from the money. We need Change. Economic development = greater tax revenue streams. How about job creation as a priority? Casinos always seem to have some dark organized crime angle associated with them. Job creation and the associated careers, not casinos, is the long term solution.

Even if it did turn out to be a fountain of dollars which could happen because downtown during the week is full of out of town businessmen, not to mention the citizens of Chicago and with only one casino,it would be loaded.
Problem is the politicians would use it as a patronage haven, create do nothing jobs and commissions for their cronies and the taxpayers would never benefit from the revenue.
Also in Vegas the police and policians keep the dog asses out of the casinos and do not allow them to loiter in the casinos. That would not happen or be allowed in Chicago. They would be sleeping in them.

A 'city' owned casino is a losing proposition. And a City of Chicago owned casino would be an utter fucking disaster.

There's not enough gold in Fort Knox, or dollars in the Federal Reserve Bank system, to compensate for the massive amount of theft, fraud, skimming, bribery, corruption, palm greasing, etc, etc, etc, that would go on there.

Add to that, the general incompetence of a 'city worker' (shudder) who has the IQ of a twig and you have one big cluster fuck just bleeding money. An hour after the doors opened it would be in the RED for a million or two -- it'd be downhill from there.

Hell, if the casino had a mascot greeting you at the door he'd be on the fucking take too, and picking your pocket when you weren't looking.

Heck, nearly half the country does not like this President yet so many will pay for his glory while Pensioners are losing lots of the dollars that they worked so hard for due to outrageous theft from politicians. Other Presidential Libraries have been constructed by private donations. This one, this President (and his family and mother-in-law) have spent over 150 million dollars from Taxpayers on their vacations and they still continue to take from the poor Payers who are getting poorer while his pockets grow at a huge rate....keep voting Demorat...and you won't have any money. If the casino was in Chicago people will flock to it in droves. Buses could bring in the folks from southern Illinois and their money to the casino, resturants, hotels, and stores. Build it and they will come

Special Board Meeting Friday 25 April 2014 to determine who the Field Reps will be, you know the guys that make Captains pay and work out the FOP office. Think the Field Reps should be the persons we elected to those various positions, that's the way it used to be, until Shields. I voted for guys from all tickets to keep each other honest with the understanding they would be in the office as field reps. Now I hear DiMaria is out, Bella works up there for a few months and Caparelli works there for a few months and then 2 new players come in. McDonough replaces DiMaria, for throwing his support behind Dean in the runoff, nice parlay or payback, Chicago politics at its finest. A few months down the road when Bella and Caparelli leave look for Dean to reward his guys from his ticket with Captains pay that weren’t even elected us, the members. I don’t know about you but there should be no additional pay for any field rep that leaves the office. If you’re elected to the position you should serve out the term or resign the position and get nothing. Dean campaigned on saving money. How does paying 2 additional field reps represent saving money. It’s just taking a page out of the Shields playbook, costing the FOP more money. Davis and Caparelli were elected to office last term but not invited by Shields to serve as field reps. They still received extra pay for the positions they were elected to, and came into the office 1 day a month to do their job, what a joke on us and we paid for it. The membership voted and the field reps should be appointed 1st Vice President Ray Casiano, Jr., 2nd Vice President Frank DiMaria, 3rd Vice President Dan Gorman, Recording Secretary Greg Bella, Financial Secretary Kevin Kilmer, Treasurer John Capparelli. This union is turning into the same cesspool created by our city, county, state and federal politicians. They all think they know what is better for us than we do. Why do we even have an election? Are members allowed to be at the Special Board meeting? Is it posted on the FOP website? Let the behind closed doors deals begin!!
