Welcome to the Party Aldercreatures

  • The Chicago Fire Department would be required to investigate an apparent shortage of advanced life support ambulances and paramedics and prepare a “remediation plan,” under a City Council order introduced this week by a pair of aldermen.

Aldermen Bob Fioretti (2nd) and Nick Sposato (36th), a former Chicago firefighter, are responding to a report last fall by Inspector General Joe Ferguson and to a more recent joint investigation by WBBM-TV and the Better Government Association.

All three came to the same conclusion: Chicago doesn’t have enough advanced life support — or ALS — ambulances or paramedics to consistently meet response time standards, and the shortage may be putting the lives of residents and visitors in jeopardy.
Why don't we just save everyone a bunch of time and money - THERE AREN'T ENOUGH AMBULANCES AND CREWS. See? We just saved everyone months of "investigations" and reports to committees that do nothing except waste paper.

And the solution? HIRE MORE PARAMEDICS AND BUY SOME AMBULANCES. The Baby Boomer population is aging and requires ambulance service to get to see the doctors they thought they could keep.

Actually, maybe these shortages are part of Obama's Death Panels that don't exist and Rahm's brother's wholesale denial of access to what used to be affordable medical care.

The city doesn't have ambulances for their citizens but they sure have one available for former mayor Daley waiting for him at the airport when he came back from an Arizona trip.

"THERE AREN'T ENOUGH AMBULANCES AND CREWS." -- SCC

I saw first CFD ambulances come in early 1960s. We were COVERED. So nice.

There are too many "Trell Mobs" and fall-down-drunk-used-to-be-wagon-jobs and oxygen-deprived multiple diabetic morbidly-obese ectopic premature pregnancies and "Ay! Ay! He heet me!" from a vast flotilla of illegals, not to mention the senseless discharge of firearms at the surrounding heavily-populated background today.

There's your problem.

The city you see is the city they want.

Otherwise they'd be handling things differently.

CFD = "We're there when you need us" and today, I have no idea how. God bless all.

Age 15-40 is desired. Earlier goes to the hyenas, natural selection, and older have lived "complete lives" and can s__t themselves out strapped in a wheelchair under incapacitating medication in some corner while staff files nails and eats candy corn and talks he-say-she-say.

It's happening right now.

They find everyone who wandered out the unlocked "nursing home" side door at -20 below yet? Snowdrifts are about gone here but they're still turning up in less populated areas.

Hey, Mayor "Propeller Head." Yeah, Cutfinger Changedmylife Auerbach. You proud of this -- or too busy with the upcoming summer "concerts" and "promotions" bro Ari and friends Pat Daley and R. Vanecko are cleaning alleged "sewers" for?

The problem isn't the overwhelming amount of calls from aging 'baby boomers,' the problem is the non-paying part of the this city that calls 9-1-1 for their endless string of ailments that they've obtained since birth.

On the anniversary of the introduction on the basic life support(BLS)ambulance program the city declared it a huge success. To reverse that position would mean someone was wrong or lied.

Better taxpayers fund a "study" top provide political cover. After all, it's not their money.

Dispatching an ambulance with lights and siren to a call that the city's own OEMC had already determined was not a life threatening emergency but called for "BASIC" life support always presented a huge liability. Glad to see somebody finally caught on.

Don't waste anymore taxpayer money on studies. Just figure out how many more ambulances are needed and order them. Between aging baby boomers and injuries from crime, you don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure it out. City hall studies every problem to death and wastes a lot of money in the process. Get your hands out of my pockets, mayor, and start running this city honestly. I think the 2015 election is going to see a lot of aldermen tossed out of office along with the mayor. Everywhere I go, I hear nothing but discontent from people and that Rahm is going to be a one-termer.

Privatize the ambulances. They, overnight you will have more than enough of them. Private industry can always do a better job than the city can.

And on the plus side for the Aldermen and Mayor will be the opportunity to reap millions in bribes doling out the contracts.

Oh, man. Now you see what they mean by "controlling health care costs."

Jobs that used to be handled by a wagon -- "One to the detox." "One to the Read." now require a complete rolling ICU, hooked up to satellites and stuff.

What is really brilliant in all of this is the rule that something get dispatched to all EMS calls if a bambulance isn't readily available.

So if the bambulance can't come, they sent a big expensive fire truck or fire engine and an entire crew.

To save money on buying some more bambulances they wear out a fire rig costing up to ten times as much. They beat up a big expensive fire rig on the pothole infested streets to save buying more bambulances and hiring more paramedics.

That is Richard M Daley economics. Send a million dollar fire truck instead of a bambulance costing $100,000 -$150,000

Obviously it is a plot by the American LaFrance pumper company to sell the City more fire engines.

We have plenty of EMS crews.

The problem is, we have to call EMS for EVERY claim of an injury.

Fat lip, notify EMS. Stomach ache, call an ambulance. The police can't transport anyone without the fear of being sued. I don't think EMS can refuse to give someone a ride to the hospital either. So instead of getting sued, we just hand them over to the overfilled ER's.

Oh yes, the city does charge major fee's for rides to the hospital. The hard working, honest person who had a heart attack will be charged (they will collect) $800 for his EMS ride. While Red Pop Washington and his sore tooth never pays a dime.(the government would only be collecting the money they gave him anyway)

The Great Wizard of Chicago's answer?!!!! Throw more money at the problem. Have you heard of this solution before? Schools, crime, neighborhoods, it's always the same song and dance. Elected officials never address what is at the root of the problem. They might not get re-elected or even worse, be called a racist!!!!

I'll give you one guess who won't gain anything by throwing money at these problems, but they are certainly going to pay for them.

The shrinking middle class.

G-d I love Chicago.

See how long it takes the ambulance to respond from Avondale in Norwood Park to Edison Park for a cardiac arrest. Don't worry you'll be at Malec or Ryan-Park before CFD gets there. But keep voting for rham's lap dog O'Conner and you'll never see a new house up north or ambulance close by.

Hey, now that everyone is supposed to have Obamacare coverage, the city can start getting reimbursed for ALL the ambulance rides for those who; fell out, hurt my ankle, don't feel well/right (people or folk), or any other BS illness given.
If they don't have Obamacare, then we can cite them and maybe the city will get a finders fee for that.

Hoff is one of the finest men ever to wear the hat of Fire Commissioner. It is an eternal stain on rahm the ballerina that he could not deal with an actual man with decency, guts, honesty and honor and quickly pressured the guy to retire.

What a low life turd piece of shit Rahm Emanuel is.

Hey Rahm boy, how are your organic tomatoes growing this year? Get those 'maters in now.

Take your DePaul relatives over to Malcolm X College and show them the monument to Brother Malcolm (aka Malcolm Little) that is sitting inside the lobby. What do you think, statue? Bust? Portrait? Nope, nothing but Malcolm's original 1963 Oldsmobile 98 automobile sitting up in there.

My partner drove the squad car around the block several times the first time he saw that Olds 98 looking for the broken glass from where somebody drove it into the building.

Brilliant idea. So, every time there's blood in the squad car, we can down it a few days for an antiseptic flush.
I wouldn't be driving a car with AIDS or hepatitis contaminated blood in the back seat. Would you?

I am a Chicago Firefighter and a EMT. I ride the BLS ambulance and see what the ALS companies bring in. I'd have to say at the very least, 70 percent of the ALS calls end of being BLS. The preachers of this fine city encourage their congregation to lie and call 911 and say they can't breath or have some other mysterious ambiguous Ailment. 90 percent of them merely want a ride to the hospital and abuse the service. You can take that to the bank. The city needs to have a bus go through these neighborhoods with loud speaker with the following announcement "Who is sick and wants to go to the hospital" I think I and others who provide city services can identify with upmost confidence which demographic abuses these services....

I love all these wonderful comments, we have 60 advanced life support ambulances to cover 235 square miles and 6 expressways. To that EMT/ Firefighter , " real" fires make up 1 percent of all calls received by the Chicago fire dept. EMS calls received make up over 90 percent, and those 60 ambulances are out all the time , not sitting around the firehouses, we make up 15 percent of the work force and preform about 90 percent of the call volume. And yes we are called for everything, CPD calls us for a cut finger or bloody nose. We also generate revenue approx 30 million dollars last year. I would never advocate the privatization of any CPD detail like CTA or the airport, and many police officers who go on runs with us know how hard we work. This city should praise the fact we work our ass off . I hope none of you all or your family needs an ambulance. And for that ff/ EMT if the fire dept. Budget wasent eaten up by firemen sitting around at firehouses built during the horse and buggy days maybe we would have enough resources left to spend on resources for the entity preforming the lions share of work.
