Darwin Strikes Again
Remember that guy who ran into a lamppost while attempting to escape and ride the lightning at the same time? He proved you can't:
- A man has died two weeks after police used a Taser on him as he was arrested in the Old Town Triangle neighborhood.
Dominique Franklin Jr., 23, who had lived in the 21000 block of Olivia Avenue in Sauk Village, was pronounced dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital at 4:49 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Franklin was taken to Northwestern in critical condition on May 7 after a police officer used a Taser while trying to arrest him for retail theft about 12:10 a.m. in the 200 block of West North Avenue, authorities said.
Witnesses said Franklin had just broken free after a struggle with the officer on the sidewalk and was starting to run away when the officer used his Taser. Franklin fell against a light pole after the officer Tased him, three witnesses said that morning, each declining to give their names.
He was taken by ambulance to Northwestern and later charged with two counts of resisting a peace officer and one felony count of retail theft. Franklin was also arrested on a warrant.
An autopsy is scheduled for today.
Stupid is as stupid does. A record a mile long, an outstanding warrant, and now a poster child for Amnesty International, the ACLU or some other such lefty organization with any sort of anti-police bias. Now pardon us while we snort into our beer.

Frickin lamp posts. Hit a few in my day, non terminal lumps and bumps, but then again, I wasn't running from the 5-0. Good lesson to learn here. For all you dummies that don't get it, "Don't run from the police."

I was under the impression that if a taser is going to kill someone it would happen rather quickly - not two weeks later?

The headline is indicative that Chicago media just can't help itself with writing slanted stories with poisonous headlines when it comes to CPD.

Hubby rolled up on a group one night and they all scattered but one. He asked the one why he did not run. His comment was "Daddy taught me 2 things...never eat yellow snow and don't ever run from the Police."

It is pretty hard to fault the headline. By its very nature a headline cannot convey the full sense of the story. It is just a come on to get the reader's attention.

How about "Man Dies Fleeing Police." It might actually make the reader curious to read what happened and find out that 22 time loser scumbag was fighting and fleeing when he got tasered and caused his own demise.

Family will get millions, literally. I know 4 people on this job that tased an offender and that offender died. In all cases, about 4 years down the road the families were paid a couple million just to go away. No wrong doing by the officers but the city will never go to trial on a taser death. Re-visit this four years from now.
More than one in my long career I have chased foot fleeing nar-do-wells into lamposts and street signs.
Stop signs were the best because they had a great GONG! like sound.
I have also chased a few into a low hanging clothsline or a yard full of pitbulls.
Then there were the couple of times when we had two fighting fools and they just wouldn't stop. I couldn't resist doing the Three Stooges bumping their heads together. The sound really was like a couple of coconuts being smacked together. The fighters went OOOOOWWWW WOOO and everyone else busted out laughing.
