Cops Shot, Bad Guy Too
- Two officers became the target of gunfire during a traffic stop late Friday night in Washington Heights. Two others were also wounded in the shooting.
CBS 2 [...] reports the two officers were taken to Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn along the man police say shot at the officers.
Police say that around 11:30 Friday night, two officers pulled over a vehicle at the corner of 93rd and Wallace. As they approached, a male passenger opened fire and wounded the officers.
A 38-year-old officer with 12 years of experience was shot in the knee. His 31-year-old partner, a six year police veteran, was saved when his police vest took the bullet. Both are expected to be ok.
The assailant took a number of rounds and his passenger/co-offender managed to catch some lead. Nice job all around and best wishes for a speedy recovery to both Officers.

ha... great report. Talk about an Underplayed incident. This shooting was not a shooting, it was a war. 5 officers shot the vehicle which the offender was in. The offender was shooting in two different directions at all five officers. close to 100.. yes, I said 100 shots were fired. one officer fired all three magazines and ran out of ammunition. One officer had to drive his car into the gunfire to rescue the officer shot in the leg who was laying pinned down in the open.. that officer who drove the car to get the officer was the one shot in the vest. the car looked like swiss cheese, the offender looked like swiss cheese and the street looked like it was covered in snow from all the contact cards covering shell casings. We were working vri in 004 and got there for the aftermath, what a mess. This could have been much, much worse. I couldnt believe how many shots were fired. ET said the count of shell casings at the time was approaching 100 and who knows how many were found as they processed the scene even more. crazy stuff.

to the injured Officers- Thank you for your incredible courage and service. You aren't taken for granted. We love the CPD. We know there is a war raging in this godforsaken city. And we know most of the media heads ignore this war and care more about glossing over the truth, glorifying the worst mayor Chicago has ever had, and collecting their paychecks. And of course, focusing more sympathetically on the poor ghetto trash's side of the story, which is usually all lies.
I pray for you Officers to heal well and quickly.

Officers make sure your service weapon is clean, oiled, loaded with fresh ammunition, functioning and complimented with working magazines/speedloaders. Wear that safety vest and make sure its up to date. Vests increase your chances of survival during life and death battles. The injury was less severe thanks to this officer’s vest. Keep that flashlight charged and consider additional handcuffs.
Make sure your holster functions and please don’t be cheap and go out with a less than safe holster. Don’t put yourself at risk and especially those who come to help you. Being cheap is your prerogative, so be it. But remember the lives of others can be compromised and life changing injuries can result by your frugality and quite frankly, disregard for your personal safety via neglected/broken equipment. Is your neglect of your equipment honestly worth a hundred or so dollars? Remember there is always the possibility of a gunfight. You bring the gun to the battle and weapon retention should be foremost on your mind at all times. A stunning blow, being overpowered, being outnumbered or being caught off guard is all it takes to cost you your life. Keep that holster snapped and in a locked position when not in use.
Those tactical knives should be out of sight not dangling like an ornament on a Christmas tree tempting some mental to snatch it up and use it against you or other officers. Those mechanical batons are also tempting dangling in front of the officer in a cross draw position. We typically face our adversaries putting these weapons in hands reach of those who seek to harm the heroes in blue.
On the tactical side remember to search, search and search again. Be aware of your surroundings, know where you are at all times and trust your instincts. Nothing is routine and remember they know who you are but do you really know who they are? Check and double check those cuffs. Keep an eye on these prisoners during your transports. Cuffs go on and they come off. Cuff people whom you are uncomfortable with or have the potential to harm you. Watch those hands reaching for things that can hurt you.
Your safety is paramount and don’t fall into the trap of the violating progressive sanctioned civil right b.s. of not searching or cuffing people. The high ideal of civil rights goes out the window when your children are orphaned. Let the agenda driven left-leaning courts make a decision if it gets to that point. Quite frankly, they are idealistic assholes who are above the law and are clueless to violent propensity of individuals we encounter on a daily basis. Who cares about your safety officer when money is potentially to be made in a warped legal system. The courts are driven by a profession focused on money making opportunities and attorney’s personal wealth enhancement, not what is right and what is wrong. Who honestly cares about that outdated ideal of justice when there is lots of money to be made?

And he sure is acting like the Sgt he did get rid of!!.......So we didnt get rid of the "cancers"!!! He stops guys on the corner.....calls for cars.....shows off by yelling at "da fools on da corner" then makes the officers violate their civil rights by licking them up for "standing on the corner" or makes them anov them (that will teach them a lesson) Then.....he does it again a block away.....then again and again!!! but this pompus tyrant has rules......IF u show up to his assist you cant talk to fellow officers, you CANT have ur hands in ur pockets, u must walk up to him and ask "what can i do for u sir"!!!! no joke. A police officer should never get a paper cut, that has always been my motto. Growing up in Englewood, police officers were getting killed all around me. When I became the police I poured disinfectant on everyone with cuts and lacerations, and gave bandaids and aspirins to everyone I could. Take care of each other. Keep emergency kits in your lockers and cars. So glad you Officers made it through this! God Bless you!

Thank you. It was eloquent. I know everyone has a right to legal representation. However the law should not be misinterpreted. Can someone tell me how can these evil people sleep at night? After witnessing a car jacking after a 2 hour surveillance, a mother and baby (18 months) were thrown out of a car, a judge allowed a defense attorney to call the witnessing officers, Mark Furmans, to the jury. HUH! This is what it's become. This was 15 years ago. It's been over for a long time. My offenders were black, but so were my victims. Luckily bottom line, mother/baby saved, previously convicted felons back to jail. Jurors need to know how evil these people are!

The city had something awhile ago on aira about 122 price vests the city pays half you pay half, they were to be fitted at academy but I signed up over 2 years ago guess program ran out if money, but plenty of money for illegals and welfare criminal rats!

Anyone know where to buy a reasonably priced bullet proof vest?? I've had mine forever and the last time I bought one was from some guy selling "second chance" vests in the districts. He was a vendor and I don't have his contact info.. Thanks in advance!
You get $1920.00 a year uniform allowance. Quit worrying about the price and buy a good vest. It might save your life.

Stop being cheap. A few years ago some fools came into like 3 southside districts offering the police some "deals" on vests. Then they proceeded to rip them off. Kept their down payments.

if that cop was slowed down by trying to deploy a rifle he would be dead right now and would have never made it out of the car. use your handgun and be good with it... a well placed round from a handgun will do just the same as a well placed round from a rifle. This copper didnt even get a chance to get his balance let alone square up with a bulky rifle. was getting shot at while running, laying on the ground and trying to crawl away to cover.. pretty tough to do with a rifle slung around your chest. besides, 90 percent of the hardo's on this job only get out of the car with a rifle because it "looks cool".. in reality, they look like complete puds. you dont all of a sudden look awesome or are cool because you have a rifle.. your not special forces because you went through the cpd rifle course... even though those handjobs would lead you to believe that...

Hey dork, the person that's inquiring said "reasonably priced".... I think they have no idea how much a vest costs.. They had a contact before for a vendor , but no longer does.. Help the person out.. I just looked on the Internet for vests and became dizzy with the prices and varieties..
