Vacation Plans Out the Window
- WASHINGTON - D.C. Police kick off a weekend initiative to fight summer crime called "All Hands On Deck."
That means more officers will be stationed on city streets requiring all of them to work eight hour shifts.
This doesn't come without controversy.
The department's union representatives have filed paperwork challenging previous such programs saying it unfairly changes officers schedules without consent from the union.
The practice has been used seven times by Chief Cathy Lanier since 2007.
In 2009 a D.C. Superior Court judge ruled the city must pay the officers overtime for working extra shifts.
While the money is nice, what about planned summer vacations, graduation parties, family events? The overtime money sounds like small compensation for poor planning on the part of the Department. No VRI in DC we guess.

Obvious Chief Cathy doesn't care about the private lives of her officers. The police job is a job not your entire life. Many of these officers have children with all the problems and commitments that go with it. Police chiefs are all politicians. And we know politicians think the common man and woman are worthless peasants.
For Chief Lanier, no sacrifice is to great to maintain order on the streets of D.C. Just goes to show that when you ride for the DCPD brand ya have to ride hard, fast and often. If CPD should ever need a new boss person, maybe the City could talk Chief Lanier into moving north.
I'm sure D.C. has their version of the Company Man CPD copper, "You signed up for this, kid"
Douchebags, in other words
In 003 they deny you time due the night before you requested to be off, then they ask for contact cards...yeah yeah I'll get right on top of that
I'm glad I'm at the end of my career.
This job enabled me to raise a family and live a decent life, but beyond that, it sucks.
I won't miss any of this sort of nonsense.
same thing happens here all tact team day off cancelled on the 3rd July. Just found out yesterday.
DC police should give their chief what she deserves.
NOTHING ! ZERO! NADDA! No activity what so ever.
Pay me , but I'm not doing shit if I'm forced to work. Thanks for the free money though.
I am so sick and tired of hearing about CONTACT CARDS.

Yes, you can make fun of this, but it is true. You signed up for this and knew about the lousy work hours ahead of time. It becomes worse though because of a shortage of manpower, but working weekends and nights is just part of the job as that is where the crime is. I would put forward the plan to train all cook county sheriffs for street work and start putting them out there. LA county does this and it works well.

News flash 003, maybe if you guys would become involved with the FOP you would know that they have to give you the day off or pay you OT if they don't give you your slips back within 72 hours......
Washington D.C. ?
Our nation's Capital?
Golly... I wonder who most of the offenders are they deal with?
Cathy does walk the walk, though. She patrols on occasion and was a real cop.
ssc i was on the dcmp web site they make good money are they hiring now? is there a residency requirement and are there politics in the promotions?

Same thing in 004, one officer received an honorable mention in roll call, then got called back up to receive a denied time due slip... It was priceless when someone yelled out, "keep up the good work!"
You want a private life, you want to go to graduation parties, family events, you should have become a Banker. "Suck it up"

North would put her in Baltimore, she would have to move west, 1/2 wit.

Time to get off your knees & come up for air company gump.
The shortage of Manpower is a lie, it's allocation. All these BS specialized units, because somebodys kid, main squeeze, paramour or whatever feels their talents are too great to be wasted in Patrol.

Company gump? Hardly, but a realist. yes, you are correct, people are taken care of, always have been and always will be. That is something that you don't realize until after you have the job. But, there is a shortage of manpower and that is a fact. Maybe the CPD should be like the Wisconsin state patrol: the desk jobs are listed in a state law, Anyjob not on this list is a field position. Police work is and always will be a night and weekend job and if you don't know that you might be too stupid to be on the job.
To the individual who articulated that having a slip returned with less than 72 hours till the time off requested; the only remedy is to grieve the rejected slip. Automatic OT, or "they have to give you the time off", is factually inaccurate. This per Caparelli at FOP. (The best part is he knew exactly what I was refering to when I called. Don't ever think they don't read the blog).

OR,become an unabashed MEDICAL ROLE ABUSER, like a certain female on 2nd watch in 011. She's come out and told people, supervisors included "Give me time on the front,***cause she's late every other fuckin day***, or I'll just go on the medical. Then, when denied the time, goes on the medical. It's unFuckinbelievable, how she keeps getting away with it. Word is she's the commander's friend. But she was doing this long before he came to 011. And knowing him friend or not, he wouldn't stand for this. She's gotten away with it so much, that one of her buddies, another female, is following in her tracks...Hitting the medical when she can't find a babysitter,or partied too hard. OR, when she just needs time to take a quick trip out of town with her friends, one of whom has been milking a bogus i.o.d. for over a year, and doesn't want to come back because she's on 1st watch and wants to be on 2nd... Though she has nowhere near the time. These are the types of female officers that give other female officers a bad name. But I'm sure they couldn't care less.
