- Hundreds of drivers who thought they had paid for parking through an app on their smartphones have gotten tickets in Chicago, reports WBBM [...].
317 cars have been ticketed for expired meters since mid-April even though their owners paid using the Park Chicago app, according to Parking Meter spokesman Scott Burnham. He says that is less than one percent of the more than 81,000 tickets issued throughout the city at that time.
Less than one percent error rate is acceptable in most endeavors, but when it potentially costs citizens money, no rate of error is good news. Our readers raised this very issue a few weeks ago - no paper receipt in the window is going to mean problems for people using the streets to park.

CTA charges kids full fares to get to summer school, job programs
With no summer fare cards for students, thousands of teens are being charged adult fares.
CTA says help is coming soon for After School Matters students.
In what appears to be another stumble in the city’s transition to the new Ventra fare-collection system, thousands of young Chicagoans are paying more in train and bus fares than they should be this summer.
Typically, students under age 20 going to summer school or jobs programs would pay reduced CTA fares—currently $0.75 per ride and $0.15 for a transfer.
But many have gotten a rude awakening this summer when they’ve used their student cards on buses or trains.
“I swiped it, and I had (added) a dollar. Usually a dollar is good for me to get over here, but it said ‘insufficient fares,’" said student Cesar Fierro in the hallway of his high school, Noble Street College Prep. Fierro rides on a student Ventra card he purchased at school.
He’s been paying $4.50, every day, to get to and from summer school—if he has the money.
“Like yesterday I had to walk all the way home,” said Fierro. That’s a 4.5-mile hike, from Augusta and Milwaukee to Fullerton and Kostner.

There is a woman tonight that has every right to be pissed at Rahm and that other political idiot Quinn. That woman would be the one that got her head bashed with a hammer last night at Wacker and Columbus by a M/1 mental. Luckily there were several witnesses that tracked the offender until he was taken into custody. If the midget emperor and our potato head gov hadn't cut funding for and closed mental health facilities maybe this nut wouldn't have been running around with a hammer and an inclination to crush someone's cranium. But they certainly can be given praise for dumping untold amounts of money into useless projects and dubious community groups.
Police should not be issuing expired meter tickets at all. We have the Department of Revenue plus the private contractors all hired for basically just meter enforcement. Law enforcement has many many better things to do.
Enough. Please. We were here before him.

My source at the Department of Finance told me that the majority of the dismissed tickets are combining from 001/018 & 020 cops that don't have or are not checking the plates through the vendor app.
Cops writing tickets is one thing, I even get them writing meter tickets if they have a foot patrol like what's his name that walks back and forth on Bryn Mawr every day in 020.
But writing meter tickets when you know there is a pay by phone app and you can't/won't check it is now getting close to Rule Violations they can hit you with and prevent you from getting that VRI
He is better then the last one Chicago had four more years four more years !

It's because only minimun wage workers are the only working peones who would vote for Rahm.

Some people need to wake up to the fact we now live in a progressive society with progressive leadership. The old ways and days are all gone. Things are going to change, a whole lot. Obama, Rahm and other progressive leaders are the agents of that change. Learn the change, love the change, live the change. So, everyone calm down and do as you are told.
I guess their smart phones were dealing with an entity that wasn't too smart.
Rahm is gonna put speed cameras on the routes the children now need to walk home. And guess the safe passages should be opened up again before some chikd gets hurt.
To 12.36 am: Computers don't make mistake, the people that program computers make mistakes. Computers are machines, they break, they don't make mistakes or have "glitches"
That said, the best "computer glitch" I've heard around these parts is the speed camera that issued the ticket to the legally parked car.
More of this administration putting forth a number designed to distract people. One percent of all tickets means nothing as to how well they have been working... It just means that most of Chicago did not kept paying at the meters... and obviously for good reason.

No. That's not how you'd figure he error rate: It should be number of tickets issued to people who paid with the app divided by number of times the app was used, not total number of tickets issued. I don't know how many times the app was used, but I bet the error rate is more than one percent.

"Company is not responsible for any fines, parking tickets, penalty notices and the enforcement of vehicle parking related offenses you incur or receive [--]regardless of whether or not you receive any notification via the Platform that the vehicle is validly parked[!!!!!]You are solely responsible for resolving with the relevant authorities any issues that you may have regarding the issuance of fines, parking tickets, penalty notices or your vehicle being impounded. If you authorize Company to contact the relevant authorities on your behalf regarding the issuance of fines, parking tickets or penalty notices, you acknowledge and agree that in such cases, Company may provide all or a portion of your information collected by Company to the relevant authorities. In addition, in the event that you fail to pay any amounts owing for the Parking Services (whether due to a declined credit card or other circumstances), then Company, upon the reasonable request of the relevant authorities, may provide all or a portion of your information collected by Company to such authorities, which you acknowledge and agree that they may use solely for purposes of collecting or attempting to collect any unpaid amounts owed by you."
Aren't these fucks who we pay to review vendor agreements looking out for the customer/taxpayer??
A clause like that leaves no incentive for LAZ and or Park Chicago to not make mistakes and it gives the city every incentive to fuck the citizens parkking out of money.
Looks like the Park Chicago isnt about convience, its about stealth revenue generation.

Great idea! Help screw Rahm! Write as many bogus tickets as you can, citizens blame Rahm and then they vote for someone else! Brilliant.
"Error rate"??? What the fuck is that? Why should there be any errors, especially for "The City that Works!"??? This sounds more like a planned (and very acceptable)"error rate", in the City's favor, of course, since they get to pocket all the extra money. And what about the poor slob citizens that get ticketed? "Fuck 'em", says the Mayor, it's their problem, not ours!" What a crock of bullshit, especially if he thinks he'll be getting re-elected here!
