Bad Day in Indiana
- An Indianapolis police officer was killed in a late night shootout in an alley, law enforcement officials said Sunday.
Indianapolis Metro Police Department officer Perry Renn, 51, had responded to an emergency call about a shooting incident late Saturday, according to city officials.
A man armed with a gun opened fire on several police officers, who fired back. Renn was hit and evacuated to a nearby hospital, where he died a short time later, law enforcement said.
The killer was also shot numerous times and at last report is in critical condition. Indianapolis has had 8 officers shot on0duty in the past year-and-a-half.
- The shooting death of a veteran Gary police officer and “happy family man” early Sunday morning shocked the city, and set off a manhunt that resulted in “a person of interest” and two others being taken into custody by late afternoon, officials said.
Police had not identified the person as of late Sunday night because he had not yet been charged, but they expected to release more details at a press conference Monday, police said.
Patrolman Jeffrey Brady Westerfield, a Gary resident and father of four who was engaged to be married next month, was found unresponsive in his patrol car in the Northwest Indiana city after a citizen called police at 5:45 a.m., police Chief Wade Ingram Jr. said.
God bless and Godspeed to the fallen. Heartfelt condolences to all the members of Indiana Law Enforcement during these trying times.

RIP brothers. May your murderers be brought to justice. Thoughts and prayers to their families, loved ones, and to the men and women of the Indianapolis and Gary Police Departments. "May the thin blue line never be broken."
Please read the story on the WISH TV website from Indy about the families statement. This country is going to hell in a hand basket. We won't even recognize in another 20 years. We have too many families like this to turn it around now. Stay safe out there, and do what you have to do to go home at night.
Please be careful and leave the pride at home, you really are cared for and the job you do for us officers/deputies/troopers.
Godspeed to the fallen in Indiana
Sadly you missed one. Early last week a Tipton Co Sheriffs deputy was killed in a roll over and he was ejected ( no seat belt) there are going to be back to back to back funerals this week in Indiana for these Officers.
To top it off, Sunday was also the Birthday of the Gary officer. Condolences to both families. RIP Officers.
May God Bless both our brothers in blue as well as their families.
These reports are a dark cloud on what was suppose to be a happy holiday and it makes the Chicago violence shit show pale in comparison. My sincere condolences and prayers to our brothers in blue throughout Indiana.
Yet another...simply heart wrenching!
It's up to you, my brothers in blue to hold the line while not crossing the line the media will have a ball with.
You, no matter the jurisdiction have had my envy and support since being a kid, having a great 31 year career during which I lost my best friend on the job I met day 1 at the Academy.
That envy and support continues to this vey moment.
Stay safe, cover your partners back, stay proud, please continue on-can you imagine where we would we be without you?
Godspeed the two Indiana Officers and there families and God Bless you all...
-retired, and still grateful P/O.

Link to story-typical savage attitude
Wow, the family of the killer is blaming the police officer for his own death. The mutts say he should have stayed in his squad car and he would be alive. Truly uncivilized animals. Democrats keep giving them everything.
At the very least, Indiana has the death penalty. I favor firing squad over a shot of go to sleep medication. 8 men with .30-06 rifles never fail. Instant lights out.
Thoughts and prayers to my brothers in Indiana. It is a deeply felt pain here. Also thinking and praying for our brothers lost in Denver this weekend as well as FDNY. It is a heart wrenching Monday.

Sad times in Indiana.
From our family in Blue in Chicago to our extended Family in Blue in Gary and Indianapolis, please accept our deepest sympathies on your loss of two men who chose to serve their community with honor and distinction.
This news reminds the nation's peacekeepers and first responders that our professions are dangerous and you just don't know when a life threatening chain of events may cost you your life. Please be safe and keep the fallen brothers, their families and fellow Men and Women in Blue in your thoughts and prayers. This is just devastating for law enforcement families across the nation who are reminded of the very real occupational risks encountered by loved ones on a daily basis and the emotional attachment to the fallen officer's families.
bring up WISHTV.com and see the shooter's family comments, defense of his actions and the blaming of the officer for choosing to engage the shooter. Typical ghetto mentality
Let us hope that this does not turn out like the Maywood Officers homicide.
Thanks for the condolences. Dark skies over Indiana.
It is disheartening.
Shootin' Buddy
RIP to Gary PO Westerfield. The reality is that Gary is a very dangerous city. Poverty is rampant, the City has over 10,000 vacant and abandoned buildings, the City is broke, it has the highest property taxes in Lake County and in 2013, a 42% property tax collection rate (the balance of Lake County is about 92%). Since the peak of population in the mid 60's, Gary has seen its population decline by over 100,000 persons. Hundreds of millions of Federal Tax Dollars have been pissed away in Gary without anything to show for it and a succession of black mayors has always preached that the City's revival is just around the corner by touting the next economic development scheme. Unlike in Illinois where Chicago politicians hold the rest of the state by the balls and cater to their minority constituents,in Indiana, the Indianapolis politicians (all Republician - governor, senate and house) don't give a shit about Gary and let it wither on the vine. This comment may not get published but I have to say it. My heart is saddened knowing a good man gave his all and died protecting a piece of shit city. May his eternal reward come from a grateful and compassionate God.
Indianapolis was once a safe city (but boring of course).
Now that the black gangs have taken over much of that city, it's as bad as Chicago.
And in Minnesota, Minneapolis' crime on their northside is mounting in that gang-infested part of the city. They welcomed "diversity" and are now paying for it.
The most troubling line of the linked article, is that this is the 8th Police Officer shot in the line of duty in the past 18 months.
