Three Police Shootings
- Chicago police shot and wounded three people in 18 hours Friday.
The most recent incident happened at Cicero and Berenice avenues on the Northwest Side about 9:30 p.m. Details about that incident weren't immediately available.
In the first incident, around 4 a.m., an officer shot a man during a chase down an alley in Englewood, authorities said.
Police had responded to a 911 call of a man with a gun at 74th Street and Princeton Avenue, according to Pat Camden, spokesman for the Fraternal Order of Police. When a beat car pulled up, a man ran off and an officer chased him into an alley just east of Vincennes Avenue and north of 75th Street, he said.
The officer turned the corner and heard gunfire, Camden said, and saw a man with a gun in his hand. The officer returned fire and shot the man in his chest. The man also complained about having a leg wound as he was wheeled into an ambulance, Camden said.
The man was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital in serious condition, he said.
Police took a gun into evidence from the scene, according to Camden. “That’s the one guarantee in life. You shoot at police, they’re gonna shoot back,” he said.
Later this morning, police shot and wounded in the Rogers Park neighborhood, authorities said.
Around 11:25 a.m., police shot a man in the 1500 block of West Birchwood Avenue, authorities said.
The man was taken in serious to critical condition to Presence Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, according to Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford.
No officers hurt at last report. Be careful boys and girls. Good jobs all around.

Why? how about trying to police like the old days except now days you're gonna land in prison or pay out in federal court. and something tells me that he wont be testifying on you're behalf. allegedly he has 5 federal law suits pending as well.

Most working coppers are still behind him. It's just that he shook up a few things when he 1st got here. As we all know, coppers aint good with change. Some car responsibilities got redefined, shall we say. Couple of long time Do Nuthin In House personnel types, got cornered, and literally asked "What do you do?" They aint appreciate that. The school team is rumored to be under the spotlight. Because he's pissed that Marshall high school constantly goes up for grabs ala 10-1 level fights. Tact team? Do I even have to go there?

The commander is aces. His sidekick XO Lemmer is the problem. Let's put it this way: would you try to rewire your whole house if you weren't an electrician? Kinda the same thing when you have someone who isn't the police trying to run the worst/busiest district in the city. You can crunch numbers all day, look at past trends and extrapolate numbers til your blue in the face. Unless you actually KNOW what the fuck something is about (in this case ghetto savages) and where the problem is really coming from, you won't accomplish shit other than alienating your subordinates. And this is where Lemmer shines. Now add in how he purposely fucks with people regarding nitpicky things and you have the perfect storm. Lemmer in the totality of his being an XO is an abysmal failure. And here endeth the lesson.

In the past I would post a comment or two on the blog trying to get the word out about what what was going on downtown, but I really wonder if anyone really cares except for those people living and working in the areas.
The media doesn't seem to care about the subject even though Carol Marin had a small piece about her experience a few weeks ago. They'll only begin to care about the subject once there's a sensational and eye-grabbing headline to post for its readers.
The cops don't seem to care about the subject because one segment thinks that it's not even happening, and another thinks that the problem hasn't been resolved because the cops downtown aren't the "real police" like they are over in whatever south or west side district they're in. Whatever idea people have in their head about being the police I. Today's world is, I'd enjoy having them stop down one weekend and teach us all a thing or two at Chicago and State.
So many post on this blog that we're going to turn into Detroit, but let's look at it honestly, we're really nowhere near headed in that direction. While Illinois as a whole isn't creating new jobs, downtown Chicago is a vibrant economic hub. While I don't think that we're on the path of Detroit, I also think that as the police, we should care about making sure that downtown doesn't burn as so many have posted. What if there is a small groundswell of belief amongst business leaders of this whole notion of civic unrest in the Loop and Michigan Avenue areas of the city? Then what? One corporate office moves, and that can turn to two and so on. What happens to the pension fund and retirement at that point? As much as we all want to retire and live the good life, how much of that depends on the economic prosperity of the city, and how much of the economic prosperity is being influenced by these groups? It's selfish reasoning, but so be it.
Sorry for the long post, yesterday was a long day and night, and I just needed to post some thoughts.

Worked navy pier yesterday. I'm really surprised that no p.o.'s were seriously hurt. Way out numbered! Urban teens running through the crowds lighting fireworks. Just a matter of time before a shooting and total chaos for sure!
You see in 011 you have to follow the matrix as devised but the XO there. If you deviate from the matrix all is lost. Remember no matter how long nor how good of a police officer you think you are the XO will show you just how it's done , the right way, the police way, HiS way. After all he is the smartest man on the CPD, just ask him. And just think 011, he's all yours cause no one in the city wants him as their XO........

Can you smell that? Ahhhh, that's the 4th of July, no wait it's my filled to the top garbage can that was supposed to get picked up today on Friday because every Friday is garbage pick up. But wait a minute the garbage was picked up yesterday, on Thursday, what's going on here. But wait a minute, there were very, very few garbage cans that were picked up on Thursday because no one at Alderman Mary "pothole" O'Connor's office told us, the residents, HER constituents, the people she works for, that garbage was to be picked up Thursday, a day early. Never in my 40 plus years of living in the 41st ward have they ever picked up garbage the day before our scheduled pick up date and not tell us before hand. They always come the day after if it's a holiday or some unforeseen event. Well I called Mary pothole O'Connor's office and was told that whe sent out an E-mail to everyone notifying them of the change in garbage pick up. Well nope,she didn't, I didn't receive it but I did get her email about the SRO story at Devon and NWHWY so I know I'm getting her emails. So then her office went on to blame streets and San saying they were supposed to notify us of the change in garbage pick up. They then took my name and address and said someone would be out on Thursday but alas this was not to be. So here I am on a happy 4th with a packed garbage can, an incredible aroma thinking why we even have an alderman who can't even provide the simplest of services. Also there were a a lot of graduation parties last week for 8th grade and HS graduation, but I guess Mary pothole Oconnor didn't think about that. Living in a 3rd world ward in a first class city, hahahahahahahaha..........hurry retirement....

Just got back from Israel on a trip, nice place wanted to see the wailing wall and other holy spots. Went into a dinner club, so moron on floor acted up, bouncers back off, in came Israeli police crack crack handcuffs hauled out. Walked streets at night Israeli police out, no nonsense copper I talked to that is the police there told me they take no acting out. He asked me where I was from as police told him "Chicago" he laughed and said the politicians in Israel are all about the law, unlike Chicago the politicians are about the criminals! Wow true statement, but in Israel most businesses are required to have a bomb shelter in their buildings, but then again he told me they are rarely used but there just in case.
Just in case? Hmm what a concept, maybe we need some shelters in Chirac on the mag mile to protect the innocents from the savages and animals that brutally attack!
I also commented on the kids getting their hair done at 2:40 am situation. I personally know about how easy it is to do a Child's hair when they are sleepy/sleep... But in the comfort of one's home. Not at some hair salon at damn near 3:00 am! I've lived in this neighborhood for nearly 17 years and that is the first I've ever heard of a hair salon being open that late with children getting their hair done up. SMH. I bet Those parents probably still don't understand how lucky they are that their kids weren't shot.
And if I read the first article correctly, some parents weren't even in the salon at the time?
Someone points a gun at you , threatens you a knife , baseball bat, 2x4 etc . Use deadly force to eliminate the threat . Go home in one piece to your family .

Someone who listens to our calls is probably a supporter of the CPD. As a teen I listened to police and fire calls. The breaks in life led me to be a cop and I had a great career and I am now retired. I could have been a Firefighter or news photographer.
I miss listening to those calls now but I would be too frustrated since I can do anything about what I hear anymore.
What is unnerving is that we still use radio communication systems which can be picked up by anyone with a few bucks to spend at Radio Shack. We have long needed a digital system that can't be heard by the bad guys.

Many neighborhoods don't have alleys and you're only allowed to put your cans at the curb the day OF pickup. Historically, residents are notified when there will be early pickup. Calm down.

Back in the day he thought he was the shit because he locked up whores; the cases were tossed in court.
Put a bad guy in front of him and I'm guessing...well you know.
He also locked up a coppers relative for a UUW on an illegal search of his business. When the copper tried to intervene before it was too late, 1100X didn't care who he was and locked him up anyway.
And before anyone chimes in, the relative had never been locked up, owned a small business, and is a good citizen.

For all the stupid individuals who've never been to a solon ever in their life and walk around with their hair ragedy, most salons are open that late because of the amount of time it takes to do one head a piece. People have their favorite stylist that they want. If you're making an appointment with one stylist and others want that same one than than it will take that long dumbass. What does a shooting have anything to do with it? People should learn to get along rather than picking up guns and shooting at innocent bystanders. In my days, we fought but I see it's different
To all the ignorant people who's commenting about children at the salon at that time of morning rather in bed, common sense should tell you that they're not making appointments at that time.
Let me break it down so you can understand....
Say for instance you have three or four stylist in one solon, out of the three or four one or two may be better than the rest. The earliest your appointment, the earliest you will get out. If your appointment is set for the afternoon, the later you will be able to leave. While one is under a dryer the other is either getting their head washed or styled. You can set your appointment at anytime of the day but nine times out of ten that stylist may not start on your head at that given time depending on the heads she has to do...
Now do you get it? Maybe you should have been in there getting your hair done. You can use a makeover. Also, before you make a comment learn to spell first. This is getting ridiculous and embarrassing.

011th Dist. Commander is just fine...it's just that the troops needed a reminder that they are all expected to be the police...yeah, I know, 011, Rangers and all that, but in reality, we have more than our share of dogs here too. Just because you're assigned here doesn't mean you get to sit on your ass and be the last car to show up on the hot calls on a daily basis.
I'm just saying.
And say what you want about 1100X, if you're doing your job, he doesn't mess with you. But that's the same in every district, I suppose. Far too many special, entitled people on this job.

You think scanners are for scum weirdo's? Where do you think the truth comes from, the newspaper, the politicians or the caps meetings? It's very smart to have a scanner to be aware of what's going on around you and your family in case of emergencies and crime in your neighborhood. No neighborhood is safe in this city anymore. There is bad stuff going on in my district right now with my beat car and 6 others tied up. It's nice to know if I have a problem now, I won't have any response. I have a life and would like to keep it. You're the one that needs a life if someone with a scanner causes this response from you.

For all the stupid individuals who've never been to a solon ever in their life and walk around with their hair ragedy, most salons are open that late because of the amount of time it takes to do one head a piece. People have their favorite stylist that they want. If you're making an appointment with one stylist and others want that same one than than it will take that long dumbass. What does a shooting have anything to do with it? People should learn to get along rather than picking up guns and shooting at innocent bystanders. In my days, we fought but I see it's different

CHILDREN should not be in a salon, a grocery store, a park, a pool, whatever, at two o-clock in the morning. They should be in bed.

You don't get it; the reason it's still there for you on Sunday morning is because of our stress. We don't get to 'take a pill and relax' because - for us - it never, ever goes away. If it's so difficult for you to read a few stressed posts from the people who protect this city, you should turn off the computer.

Many neighborhoods don't have alleys and you're only allowed to put your cans at the curb the day OF pickup. Historically, residents are notified when there will be early pickup. Calm down.

We have had 70 shot before in another administration. When it ever goes over that, then I will say unreal!!

No, we had over 70 last year with the SAME "administration". 10 or 11 shot in 4 hours today brings the total over 60 for the same time period last year. No success. 60 People shot in a "world class city", hell, simply in an American city in 3 or 4 Days should always be considered "unreal".

I also commented on the kids getting their hair done at 2:40 am situation. I personally know about how easy it is to do a Child's hair when they are sleepy/sleep... But in the comfort of one's home. Not at some hair salon at damn near 3:00 am! I've lived in this neighborhood for nearly 17 years and that is the first I've ever heard of a hair salon being open that late with children getting their hair done up. SMH. I bet Those parents probably still don't understand how lucky they are that their kids weren't shot.
And if I read the first article correctly, some parents weren't even in the salon at the time?

Correct, I am not a police officer, but The "beast" you mention is something I have to deal with 24/7 living in Englewood. You occasionally hear or read about the child shot at the park at 10:00pm, on the porch after dark & etc. But children in a hair salon at 2:40. Am was something entirely new - as well as equally disturbing to me as any other incident I mentioned.
