*********INFORMAL POLL******************

All I year when working is "I'm retiring soon, I'm retiring next year" how many planning 55 and out putting in papers by October 01,2014 for next year, how many just planning retiring next year regardless? The big classes hired I. 85,86,87 are going to eligible max retirement but how many are leaving? Many coppers say "I'm staying because of overtime" ok but do you realize you have to work basically all your regular hours plus whatever extra hours to make that money.

Simple math on pension your getting approx your regular pay, but your telling the city when your maxed you can keep that regular pay I'd rather work extra hours to get overtime, so your working your regular hours plus special to get that pay. Add your overtime hours plus your regular hours together next month minus your monthly pension check divided into hours how much are you making per hour total, mine was for all hours worked $5.45 hour, because telling city to keep pension check for that month that is all you make.

Ok how many leaving next year? How many moving out if city state? If moving where is good place to live, that has good health care, not many link card and illegals, low crime ideas?

OT- another homicide in 011 last night. Can't wait to hear the commander say that it happened becuase, "Afternoons don't do shit" like he told the day crew after their homicide.

And is the XO going to counsel the afternon lieutenant that homicides are up 100% and shootings are up 100% since her promotion, you know, like he did the day lieutenant? Or is she untouchable because she's running her own watch into the ground the way Lemmer wants?

Hey Glenn, hey Tommy, your strategies suck. Homicides are up since you got here, same as all the lietenants who arrived with you. When is McCarthy going to hold you accountable for 60 years of westside mayhem that was going on before you were even born? West side ain't South side and it ain't inside work like TL has done his whole career

OT: from the Tribune about a shooting on the southside, priceless quote from Pat Camden:
---

"The officer turned the corner and heard gunfire, Camden said, and saw a man with a gun in his hand. The officer returned fire and shot the man in his chest. The man also complained about having a leg wound as he was wheeled into an ambulance, Camden said."

"The man was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition, he said."

"Police took a gun into evidence from the scene, according to Camden. “That’s the one guarantee in life. You shoot at police, they’re gonna shoot back,” he said."

Why don't you go work in a factory for $15hr, or drive a delivery truck for 45 to 60k a year. Better yet be a union trades man odds are you are laid off unless you have serious senority. From the Trib's report of 12 already shot as of Friday morning, I couldn't help but notice this:

Another shooting overnight left one dead and one wounded in West Englewood. The two were hit when someone fired from inside or near a black car about 2:40 a.m. Friday in a stripmall at 63rd Street and Damen Avenue.
Corey Hudson, 34, was killed and a 35-year-old man was wounded in front of a salon where children were getting their hair done overnight. Shell casings littered the sidewalk and bullets had pierced a nearby gyros restaurant.

What so-called "parent" takes their kid to have their hair "did" at 2:40 am? Nevermind...don't answer that.

Happy 4th to all and stay safe.

Am I reading this right? Who the heck take their children to get their hair done at 3 in the MORNING!

Corey Hudson, 34, was killed and a 35-year-old man was wounded in front of a salon where children were getting their hair done overnight. Shell casings littered the sidewalk and bullets had pierced a nearby gyros restaurant.

A man who pulled up to the scene after the shooting, but before police arrived, said saw two men on the ground, one of them still moving.

A woman whose 4-year-old daughter was inside the salon became separated from her child until after police arrived. She stood outside the crime scene until a supervisor was able to walk her into the salon, where she was told she’d have to wait until detectives and evidence technicians finished their investigation.

Happy 4th of July? C'mon, I expect better. We celebrate our Country's Independence on the 4th of July, not the 4th of July as an occasion. That's like saying Merry December 25th. Okay, yes I'm grumpy and probably splitting hairs but it's easy to do when we celebrate the embarrassing mess this Country has become. It's difficult to show pride and patriotism in light of the actions and antics of the political bastardization of what this country once was. I am proud of many of the people who act and serve with valor and integrity but am ashamed of the supposed leaders and what they and their more recent predecessors have done and are doing. I fly our flag in remembrance rather that with pride as I am no longer proud. Maybe one day the abeyance of that sentiment, that pride, that glory will return.

Catching up on newspaper headlines from yesterday: the City of Chicago and the State of Illinois could be on the hook for $1.58 million in attorneys' fees for their futile attempts to deny citizens their 2nd Amendment Rights. Chicago has agreed to pay the lawyers who challenged its ordinances banning gun stores; Illinois is arguing that the fees requested by the winning plaintiffs' lawyers ought to be reduced.

Chicago's new ordinance on gun stores contains so many restrictions that 99% of the city may be off limits for such an enterprise. Another lawsuit coming?

Simple math on pension your getting approx your regular pay, but your telling the city when your maxed you can keep that regular pay I'd rather work extra hours to get overtime, so your working your regular hours plus special to get that pay. Add your overtime hours plus your regular hours together next month minus your monthly pension check divided into hours how much are you making per hour total, mine was for all hours worked $5.45 hour, because telling city to keep pension check for that month that is all you make.

Math isn't that simple. You forgot almost $5,000 for duty availability and uniform allowance. Holiday pay plus each year your pension goes up because its the highest four of the last ten which has always been the last four unless you were promoted.
Not saying you are right or wrong, just isn't as simple as you make it sound.

There is always another carrot dangling from a stick that you can chase. But sooner or later you will have to face life AFTER the Police Department. It does exist. It may be a frightening prospect, but only initially. Sooner or later you will either walk out, be kicked out or carried out.

The goal is to get as much money out of the pension system as possible. The way to do that is not to try to get the biggest check, but get the most checks.

In many parts of the 41st ward. Garbage pickup is curbside. You roll it out the night before to be picked up by the truck the next day. So no notice of schedule change means you don't get service.

Never ever dismiss the power of the Greek communities in this city, Steve Georgas deserves any promotion that he gets, he is a tired less working copper, and for all of you that don't like him or Chris Kennedy, you are at a loss, both decent men ,do their job and work hard. And yes I am a friend of both, have worked for them both and have never mistaken friendship for kindness.

I saw a very nice fireworks display and had some good ribs and a nice evening away from the savages. But that was Naperville RibFest Some democrats have found it but it is nothing like any of the Taste of Chicago/July 3rd Fireworks calamities I have worked before I retired. And the best thing Naperville does, aside from keeping the police/citizen ratio high, is to charge $15 admission. That keeps the shitiest of the shitheads away. The real animals aren't going to drop cash to come and get thrown out. Thanks Naperville, don't ever let the animals in for free like Chicago and maybe they won't ruin the event like in Chicago. Robinson's Ribs was out there in Naperville and I hear he didn't bother to even go to the Taste of Chiraq.

Whats wrong with the biggest and the most?
Most checks is a flawed theory. If that was true EVERYONE would retire at 50 or when they hit 20 years to get the most checks. Doesn't work like that,
Even as over the last few decades the retirement age went down, according to pension fund records, the age of officers retiring has increased. Not by much, but has increased during the time earlier retirement was offered and thats just a fact.

Last night, downtown was once again out of fucking control. This city has turned to shit!

Parts of the city. I like a bunch of other po's, firemen, city workers and residents walked a couple of blocks to the local park. There they had a huge fireworks display put on by the locals and the park was packed with old timers, parents, teenagers and even little kids playing in the childrens playground. A few beers were downed and everybody had a great time and enjoyed themselves. Not one problem or dispute, was a great evening and after a few hours everyone walked home. There are still areas like this left in the city.

7/04/2014 10:10:00 PM
So on Thursday your garbage can was filled up and didn't smell, only on Friday. Or maybe it was empty on Thursday and suddenly on Friday it was filled up. Big fing deal the garbage got picked up early. Get a petition going to get her removed from office,

7/04/2014 03:12:00 PM
The simple answer; a few officers are afraid of retirement. Even with overtime and holiday pay, the difference is very small. When your 60 years old or more and afraid to retire, that is sad. This is more of a emotional decision rather than a economical decision. Soon, they will be 63 years old and forced off the job. I think it is sad any officer still working with 40 years on the job. Take the retirement while you can.

The angry Amish hordes were out in force downtown on Friday. People were getting pummeled left and right by these violent hungry hordes! It was bad. What can we do to appease these hordes that the city and Police brass say don't exist? You won't here about them raping and pillaging in the paper or news. We can only hope that these animals one day run into an average respectable citizen, who just happens to have his or her concealed carry weapon of choice on their person and takes out a few.

To 07/04/14 at 10:15 pm......you must love paying high property taxes for little to no service, well I like my money's worth. Yes the garbage was filled up on Thursday because Friday is garbage pu you tool. I pull it to the street and now I got to smell it for another week. The reason they are supposed to pick it up every week is because it usually gets filled by the seventh day but that must too hard for you to comprehend. Me thinks your a Mary pothole Oconnor stooge, waiting to get on the job or maybe a merit ,hack promotion. You probably answer phones at her office like all her other flunkies waiting to latch on to the govment tit...... As far as petitions, no way, we here on my block are bringing out the vote against her. She will soon be referred to former alderman Mary "Pothole" Oconnor, one and done...... Sent packing after one term now back to making sandwiches..... Oh and another thing that story about the SRO on Devon and NWHWY, well they are turning it into residential units there. Could it be section8, low income, who knows but I've seen the contractors there and they are putting in living residences in there....... Don't worry I'm sure Mary pothole Oconnor won't know anything about it.........

I hope so. I had a sister-in-law (RIP) on welfare due to severe arthritis and she used to get that stuff.

When she got it it was cause for a party because not only was it free it really was the world's best cheese. All natural no artificial flavoring or coloring. The pride of Wisconsin's Dairyland for burgers.

It was a heck of a lot better than the 40 year old Civil Defense hardtack she use to put it on so we brought our own Ritz crackers.

Gulliford and Georgas work great together and I hear many negatives about both, but then again we are the Chicago police and many of us would not be happy even if you were paid to sit home. we are such a jealous group of babies, that we will never be happy, Try getting a real job, see how long you last in private industry.
