- At least 13 people have been shot in Chicago at the start of the long holiday weekend, including a woman killed as she sat on a porch near Garfield Park and a man slain in front of a hair salon on the South Side, police said.
Shambreyh R. Barfield, 21, was sitting with a friend at a two-flat in the 3800 block of West Monroe Street around 4:17 p.m. Thursday when four or five masked men drove past in a blue sedan and fired, apparently aiming for someone else, police said.
Way to go 011! Leading the city by almost 10 homicides and double last year's total. McCompStat sure has the right guys in charge over on the west side.

Corey Hudson, 34, was killed and a 35-year-old man was wounded in front of a salon where children were getting their hair done overnight. Shell casings littered the sidewalk and bullets had pierced a nearby gyros restaurant.
Getting their kids hair did.....at 2:40 in the morning. Think about that for a moment. This is what passes for parenting in Englewood? Good thing it wasn't a school night or anything, right?

This is what happens when a 'Captain' of police who never was 'the police' is given carte Blanche to try and initiate strategies that have no practical application. Lemmer is Compstats wet dream and needs to be crunching numbers at some insurance agency (take your 9 year on the job know it all princess secretary with you). Tom is not the police. Never was, never will be. And Glen Evans? As smart as he is and as much as the real police he was/is he still fails to see that Rahm has him pegged as a sucker that took the bait of being a gold star. Evans and Lemmer = EPIC FAIL.

We cannot be critical of other cultures just because of their timing for getting childrens hair cut. However, you have to admit that most burgs do not have hair salons open and doing business during the wee hours of the morn.
The Gyros joint was o.k.
It's a very exclusive salon. You have to take the appointments when they're available.
Well I guess all those multi long day meetings with 1100x with him, hour after hour telling everyone how he is running the district now, telling supervisors about his vast knowledge of policy, how he knows what's best for the district and the people there (even though he has never worked the street) paid off. Oh he. " held them off" alright. This is only the beginning. 1100x has destroyed the district. Guys and gals on days and afternoons were correct, he is using threats against the new grad LT's on afternoons and here on midnights to destroy any hope of us doing anything in this district until he is gone. We are all hoping that downtown moves him quick.
Walgreens just called the 011 desk. 1100X's medications are in. Please send a car to pick them up and deliver them to 1100x.
Perhaps CPS needs to offer free hair salons in the schools to go along with all the other freebies they give out to keep the kiddies safe

TL is a classic example of a person promoted - to Capt - above his abilities. He's also a classic paper pusher with a belief that he knows everything about policing. Glenn is the same. Glenn would made a fantastic patrolman but has no supervisory, management or leadership skills.

Lemmer has now literally told a sgt on 3rd watch and a lt on 2nd watch that they are PERSONALLY responsible for the homicides being so high in 011. He also ordered that a bunch of P/Os on 3rd watch be counseled by their sgts because they didn't have enough contact cards for one week. All of those officers had arrests, movers, parkers, anovs etc for that week, but that didn't matter. He loves to deny people's time off, and yet he never manages to work a full tour. Comes in hours late and leaves hours early. Did you drop slips for those days, captain? And your secretary. Must be nice to be on the five hour a day schedule. She must have a lot of time on the books to be able to burn through all of those hours. Now Lemmer himself will probably come on here and write about how he's a great boss and everyone is just lazy. Obviously, anyone that has ever worked the street knows that 011 is a busy fucking district with a backlog of calls everyday. 2nd watch is all 99 units who have to wait for backup on every priority job. Arrests are made, but who gives a shit, right? As long as those missions are done. 3rd watch is full of a bunch of new guys that want to do nothing but work. But when you take 20 people off the watch and put them on "mission" teams, have at least 9 beat cars doing other missions every night, and are in a perpetual backlog, I wonder why there isn't enough time for bullshit contact cards. These new guys do find time to make plenty of arrests though. But fuck that. No time off and you better get those cards.

I see that the gutless whores at the Tribune not only continue the practice of referring to what is obviously black violence as "gun violence", but do not allow for any commentary. Blaming inanimate objects for the actions of human beings is a big part of the reason that no effective solution has been or will be implemented. We literally had 6-8 coppers all assigned to a rapid car as the wagon in 023 at a 1730 start. Ask him about the time he got coppers to sign off on his own To/from where you basically were voluntarily giving up your contractual rights to limiting your start time of 2 hrs before and after the official watch start time. He was going to start cars at 1900 hrs on 3rd watch, until someone called fop and he was told to cease and desist, you can't give up your contractual rights. Ask him about his list he left for the lt. when he went on RDO or furlo on who could and could not work and on what cars theses po's were to work or not work. If the list and missions weren't followed by the lt. He would threaten the Lt. With a SPAR. It's one thing working in 011, it's not like the rest of the city , but to put this completely incompetent , inept, ignorant, pompous, self promoting, never been a leader, as XO of 011 is an insult to very working police officer. This is whats wrong with the CPD, it's XO TL........good luck in 011, your gonna need it........

OTHER cultures? Most black family lines have been in this country a lot longer than MY family, which arrived here between 1910 and 1920. OTHER cultures?
Children need sleep. Parents who live in war zones should be protecting these kids and keeping them off the street and in BED at 0200hrs. If you mean opossums, then I'll go along with 'take your kid for an outing at 0200hrs', but human children should be at home, in bed, asleep, at that hour.

I also commented on the kids getting their hair done at 2:40 am situation. I personally know about how easy it is to do a Child's hair when they are sleepy/sleep... But in the comfort of one's home. Not at some hair salon at damn near 3:00 am! I've lived in this neighborhood for nearly 17 years and that is the first I've ever heard of a hair salon being open that late with children getting their hair done up. SMH. I bet Those parents probably still don't understand how lucky they are that their kids weren't shot.
And if I read the first article correctly, some parents weren't even in the salon at the time?

Far be it from me to defend TL, but Evans BROUGHT him to 011. Evans is the Cmdr and is TL's boss and could put a stop to nonsense right off. But he can't. Why? Because Evans can't string 3 sentences into a coherent paragraph and he needs TL to be the admin guy while Evans runs around like a P.O. THAT's the problem with this dept. No leadership.

I'm sorry, but ALMOST anything coming from Colon Flaherty or Marlin Newburn is almost laughable. To much racial fear mongering to be believable (I.e. Every last incident "found" by Flaherty is a race riot, with most evidence only being the attackers were black and the victims were white - or of another race). I came to this conclusion( of course among dozens of other incidents that gave me this conclusion) when a few months ago a website flahtery writes for (could be Breitbart.com ) posted a video of a white teen or adolescent being jumped by three black teens or adolescents. According to Flahtery it was clearly the act of racial violence. No proof. It just was. And Newburn has proven to be a questionable psychologist, or at least unconcerned.
I commend anyone who does any type of real, non-PC reporting, on any subject. Whether it be racial reporting of whites, blacks, Asians, etc. political, or what ever. Colin Flahtery seemed to have been on to something, but turned it in to a fear mongering, reverse liberal type of approach.

When they made Captains XOs, Lemmer was going to gangs under Leo Schmitz when the the order came out and before it went into effect Lemmer was dumped on a Sunday, yup a Sunday from gangs to mass transit. A special order came out from HQ and was faxed to 019 with the good news. There were volunteers to deliver it to his home and when it was he replied " a transfer order on a Sunday? They must really hate me downtown".......and the rest is history....... This guy couldn't lead for his life, he is what's wrong with the CPD and why it's a failed organization......when you loose the troops you loose the war, in this case you loose the mission of the CPD in the 011th district. Just wait and see what this guy does, it won't be pretty.
