What the Hell is This?
We can only hope this isn't true - but it probably is:
- Sex offender registration and other felony registrations fall under the Chief of Dicks office. The office is located in the rear of headquarters in the Secure parking area by the hay market statue.
Fast forward to 2014. So there is a huge uptick of SCUM Felons registering monday through friday, I’m talking of at least 15 lined up from 8 am through 2pm.
The felons are lined up outside. Some complained during this past winter and others called CFD for frostbite, etc. you catch my drift. So what does CPD/City/Chief of dicks do?
They are building a waiting room in the lobby on the southwest side of the lobby, right next to the Fallen Star memorial wall. The room even has a large plexiglass window looking out into the lobby. The whole wall looks HORRIBLE, like a child is building it. In reality city workers are building it. So these SCUM offenders, Rapists / Murderers / Agg Batt offenders, will be bullshitting right next to our fallen brothers while they wait to register.
And I’m told they might even get a T.V. to keep them entertained, no lie. How is that for RESPECT for our fallen. You have to see it to believe it.
What can be Done about it?
Well, if they're already building it, probably nothing can be done. It's the city's building. They already decreed that the police department had to give up an entire floor to the fire guys. Parking is impossible - the FOP had to threaten to even get four spots reserved for coppers with injuries/illnesses so bad they couldn't walk to the Medical Section.
There really isn't any good reason to have these sex offenders reporting to HQ anyway - why not the Detective Areas where SVU detective are already at and has lockup facilities in case a registrant needs to be arrested? Plus, if the city is looking to make it easier on the criminals, having three available points to register might be easier.
We imagine we'll have to chalk this up to the city (and Rahm) crapping all over the Department again.

Other than the disrespect shown our fallen officers, who gives a fuck! I don't work out of that building. Maybe some of the lice will find their way upstairs.
I have seen this line of scumbags, and let's just say it makes coming and going very uncomfortable to say the least. I am on the medical for a foot injury and if need be, would have a tough time defending myself. All of them stare at your every move, they see us in our personal cars, etc. And they seem to be all buddy-buddy... God Forbid should one of them recognize me as the cop who locked them up. I'd be out-numbered about 20-1, and I'm not going to hold my breath for one of the desk dollies to come to my aid. We are second class citizens, even on our home turf.
criminals and potential/suspected criminals have their rights and pride too.
Don't forget that these idiots get to see who's coming and going through those back doors.
Oh it is true all right. I went to a retirement ceremony a month or so ago. Understand I retired in 2012 but the city is just now getting around to sending out invitations to honor retirees even if way late. Still, my wife likes that stuff so I thought I would give her a reason to be proud so I put on a suit and went down there. I figured I might see some old friends.
We got there around 0900 and there was this line outside the building. I took one glance and told my wife it looked like the line to get into narcotics court for a probable cause hearing. All garbage in line on the right and all police officers and civilian employees on the left going into the building. Unreal. Can you believe how fucking stupid someone is to allow those jagoffs to line up and go into our headquarters 5 days a week?
In many suburbs you can't even walk into the police station. Armor steel doors, bulletproof glass, you need to be escorted in by an officer.
Not at our police department. It's like a big sign is hanging, "Criminals Welcome Here." and "Al Quada - call in advance for an Arabic interpreter."
What bothers me more is none of our command staff see anything wrong with that. If there is ever a mushroom cloud rising from 3510 S Michgan Ave, you will know why.
Since Rahm is such a liberal POS why can't these sexual deviates register at City Hall, preferably on the 5th Floor.
It's state law they have to report to the municipality headquarters, so maybe they should get one of them little trailers and put it on the south end of the lot where the hole in the fence is at and make them stand there.

Its very sickening that officers who put their lives on the line and sacrifice everything their badges will be resting just next to the sex offenders waiting room for registration...whos sick idea was this and why did FOP or any memorial foundation protest this. Hey for the rest of the officers out their make sure you request to have your badges given to your families and no where near this sess pool of criminals waiting area. Shame on you CPD!
I do believe the reason these mutts have to go to 35th St is because it's the law. It's poorly written and if I'm not mistaken it states that these sex offenders must register at the police headquarters of the city they reside in. Which is fine and great when you have one station like all the suburbs do but it kinda doesn't make sense for our beautiful city. With all the districts and all the other police facilities you would think some politician would try to get that changed since it makes freaking sense but hey what do I know. Maybe having a seperate place for all of these degenerates that is far away from anything sacred like our wall would make sense. But that would involve having to rewrite some things. Nah too much work. Nobody likes the police anyway. That is all!!!!
Good idea, have offenders register at their local District Station. Also another suggestion, have court, misd./felony/traffic/domestic violence/etc. at local District stations.
Have them line up in front of the bean at grant park...since everyone seems to praise these scums why not show them off to the public

so if its the law to register at headquarters. use an off site satellite building and call it a wing of the official headquarters. like anyone in the state would say something...
they should really use the police memorial park.. set up booths there in front of the wall. or maybe on the graves of some of the fallen officers. i swear our "leaders" don't have a clue. SHAME

Instead of building a new room why not use the old gun registration desk at hq??? No one else is using it and they won't be allowed in a "secure area" where the employees / p.o.'s enter. My question is why aren't these individuals being checked when they walk through the back gate? Just waved on through with no check whatsoever. Just a verbal "ok". You have to go through a metal detector when entering on the Michigan entrance. Where is the fop to address this???

i recall getting a call from a general contractor back in february to come down to this HQ station and quote some mechanical work involved in the construction of this waiting room. just waiting in the lobby 5 minutes was a people watching trip itself.
state law or not, in this day and age, why would you want a line of unfrisked or searched criminals waiting around in the vicinity of any of your computer networks?????? oh i'm sure they're plenty secure....

I used to work done at Police HQ. several years ago.
It was fucked up back then! Piss Poor planning for parking! That place NEEDS a four story garage, but the city pissed the money away on some stupid Liberal project and the city bosses expected working coppers to use the CTA Green and Red line stations on 35th st., that was according to Ex-Deputy Hubermann at the time!
Fast forward to today, just one giant clusterfuck and I am so glad I don't work at Police HQ. or whatever it is called now!
I warn anyone don't waste your time working down there, it will SUCK all around from parking to bosses, it is just one big ASSHOLE fest that NEVER ends!

FYI-The reason the registration is at police HQ is because of how it is written in the law. Says something about registering at police HQ and such. No real choice there unless they change the law.
So whats the difference between that and the offender zoo at the ERPS waiting room? ERPS and Forensics trying to take in evidence and narcotics through the same crowd of suspects and offenders some of them surely armed along with women and children. Yes that a very bad location next to our memorial but PO safety should be the isssue. As I was told long ago at ERPS by the boss. "Until something major happens in the waiting room nothing will be done"
I gave a fellow-officer friend of mine a ride down to the medical section and, since he was on crutches, they let me park in the parking lot to wait for him. I sat and watched the scum of the planet queue up and wait in line. One mutt left the line and walked up and down each aisle of the parking lot, checking out all the cars. This problem will get worse and worse until someone gets hurt, raped or killed.

Have them use the Michigan Ave side of the building. there is room on that side, keep them away from officers coming into the building, this s just a tragedy waiting to happen, one of these fine citizens will pull a gun and shoot a copper someday. That is a pure fact.
I like it that these offenders are at HQ. it is sad that they are next to the Fallen Stars case.
This is as close as anyone at HQ will ever get to a bad guy!

First of all the Areas are considered "Headquarters" look at the signs on the buildings. Second this seems to be consistent with having arrestees pick up their property at ERPS which is located at Homan Square.
I truly believe no one cares or thinks about how this stuff effects the department. It doesn't surprise me when the same Staff disbands citywide units, gets rid of watch commanders and closes two Areas. All brilliant moves. It scares me to think what they may do next.

Why not use the old gun registration area? Since only CPD has to register they could move gun registration to one of the many vacant areas upstairs. Then the felons could stay on the public side of building away from our Honored Fallen. I know this makes way too much sense for the idiots that run this department so it will not happpen. Unreal
Brilliant, the areas are the ideal location for registration. Easier for the felon, and keeps them out of HQ.
I've walked past those lines, I just use my mind and imagine they're waiting in line for Air Supply tickets ! Mind over matter, see how easy it is !!
How about the clerk of the judge that handles these scum bags register them then and there? Forward it on to the PD of jurisdiction. That's what computers do. I know it's crazy talk, but can't we at least bring the cook county courts into the 1990's, technology wise?
Went to a Department Commendation ceremony and after getting a ride from a remote lot over by the cell, my family and I were dropped off and had to walk by all of the sex offenders waiting to register. It's so disappointing how we and our families are treated by this department. I know some boss will see this and still say and do nothing about it.
Are they letting them register to vote at the same time?

Gun registration should be on the 5th floor of City Hall. Bring your weapon and ammo for inspection. Hand grenades too, bring them for registration.

Well gee, such profound insight, your intelligence shines through with this comment. I'm speaking to the ludicrous nature of this situation and how it is a shit-show waiting to happen. There are officers who are hurt and on the medical that use that entrance all day, every day. By nature they are not working because they cannot perform their duties due to an injury, not because they are sissies you asshole. I am aware that the boogie man is always watching. My point is that the boogie man shouldn't have such a strong, obvious presence at an entrance where I'm walking in by myself and cannot adequately defend myself right now. And now to give them a waiting room next to the stars?? Makes me want to throw up. Doesn't anyone have any fucking common sense?
This whole thing has made me sick reading about it. It shows what the bosses and politicians think of our fallen. We all know they don't care about officers, their families or officers on the medical. They all disgust me. These scum should not be allowed inside the building or in the lot.

How about using the old 010 or 021 district station. There is cells, parking and they are I'm there own building.

Its a simple safety issue the "asleep at the wheel" FOP should have addressed from the start. You have o go through metal detectors on the east side of the building to get in where gun registration used to be. They can move over there. We shouldnt have to walk past felons who are on headquater property with no safety checks in place. It an bad scene just waiting to happen and then the powers that be will spin their b.s.

I am sure that it has to be done at some place that headquarters designates. Under "Home Rule" it can be more than one place in Chicago.
The Hq security unit doesn't have enough people working to handle any type of emergency.i doubt they could secure the sex offender room if something were to happen.
