A long time reader located the pertinent article and e-mailed it. Many others posted the link in the comment section. Here it is:
  • Now city officials are pushing building owners to make those fire-safety improvements before that deadline. Mayor Rahm Emanuel lectured high-rise owners that they shouldn't delay making their property safer.

"This is not like a final exam where you wait until the last hour of the last day to figure this out. I expect you to use this time to put in place a sprinkler system and the safety and security systems you need. … I don't expect you to use the time all the way to the end."
And again, as was pointed out, Rahm is waiting until the very end to even think about making the $600 million balloon payment, and he's actually hoping to not have to make it at all.

Rahm will throw us under the bus again, and again, and again until the public demands that we all be reduced to no-payments per month.

But we have the money for 1,000 illegal kids?????

Oh Rahm, you suck the big one.

As I recall the State Fire Marshall poured cold water all over the sprinkler idea for high rises. The conniving Raccoon is always trying to get out of the pension payment for 2015.

It's too bad we can't organize and call him out on it. It's only our pension were talking about.

"The trouble with Socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money"

Rahm and Chicago's Fifty thieves have run out of other people's money.

Why pay up before the deadline?

No sense in pissing off the taxpayers any sooner than you need to. They might stop voting for your Chicago Machine.

Don't worry, some dumb sap will loan Chicago enough money to cover the tab. They are still loaning money to Argentina after Argentina just declared bankruptcy again, the 3rd time in 25 years.

Don't worry he will go into that savings account called the TIF funds and pay! You know the fund that know one can see! Rham talks about transparency but only on the peasants.

This coming balloon payment could have been made in installments for the last 4 or 5 years. If I had a large bill with a few years notice to pay. I would be making payments well ahead of time to not have one time balloon payment I could never make.
It's time to put a lein on all city assets. If he sells midway or leases any city property money goes to pensions first. Should have been done when Mayor Daley leased skyway and parking meters.

The cost of putting political choices ahead of practical solutions has become too expensive. It is destroying Chicago’s finances and threatening the city’s future. In all of these reforms, we will be guided by principle, pragmatism and progress — not politics. What we simply cannot do is to temporize any longer. We can’t kick the can down the road because we’ve run out of road.” Rahm Emanuel

The above quote came from a New York Times article dated October 15, 2011.

Why aren't our unions flooding the media with the easy answer for the pension balloon payment. The TIF fund from one year could cover the payment. Just because King Dick set up a method to take tax income and funnel it into his own private slush fund doesn't mean its legal or ethical. Our unions are spineless, other unions take the fight head on ours are just waiting for a back door deal to enrich themselves. Typical Chicago bullshit.

Rahm bought off/threatened FOP?
No organized rebuttal to tiny's bullshit?

>Foo!<

We were waiting for that full page buy in both rags laying out the outrages Rahm & Co. have committed against the tax payers safety in the guise of "Sticking it in the Cops ear."

It would have been fun to see home turn purple and run away like a little bitch from a Monday morning presser when someone asks a question he feels is beneath him to have to answer.

Answering pointy questions is something we peed on peons have to do.

Smart and important people like Rahm have the air and opportunity to pick and choose whether they do or don't.

Hark! The sound of $25K plates being slid across fine linen somewhere on the North Shore!

>Rahm dons ballet slippers, a leotard, a cape and a pink tutu that spins and sparkles<

"Money-Money ZOOOOOOOM!" Says he as he flies away with tutu spinning and shooting sparks.

>spit-sput... WHIIIZZZZZZ!<

$9 Million and risin' in that campaign fund...

"Priorities you churls! It's for the children!"

This prick reveals what he thinks of Copper's and other real tax payers kids every time his mouth opens.

Ethical conduct is for peons who have rules to abide by...

Ok rahm you owe you pay simple right? We all know rahm could call Barry on the bat phone and get immediate cash to hire and fully fund first responders pensions! Say what you want about President George Bush but his hometown in Texas was fully in the black he made sure did not want to be embarrassed, guess some of us wrongfully thought that Obama would do the same in Chicago but we were really wrong!

On another note dean are you talking about the pension? Contract? Manpower? Is your head still in the sand? Are you amazed by the big office you have? Come on Dean you promised "open FOP operations" but we were sold a bill of goods and lies come on dean arbitration we could at least match the fire men's contract they list nothing and gained some raises what say you dean? Crickets!!!

Wait a minute, you're speaking like an honest person speaks. This asshole never had ANY INTENTION of paying this balloon payment! That thought never crossed his mind
Secondly, yes, the should put liens on the city!!

Politicians never pay anything in advance. They always postpone anything they can so they have the additional money to spend. I thought everyone knew that. Daley was the best example ever. Never raised the property tax but sure left the city in a bind when he decided not to run. Most politicians put off the payments, because they cant be sure they will be reelected or if they will be in that position when the payments are due

What the hell? Did half your masonry fall into the street? Did the windows all pop out of the building? Or is your building six inches too tall and now you need a hundred-fifty thousand dollar 'lifesaving' sprinkler system? (Or do you live in a particular building in Greektown that never, ever got a permit for occupancy after a certain connected developer finished the project?)
