Off Duty Shooting

  • An off-duty Chicago Police detective shot at two males who allegedly tried to steal from a Jewel store Wednesday night in the Norwood Park neighborhood.

The detective was shopping at the Jewel at 7342 W. Foster Ave. about 7:10 p.m. when store employees told her there was a theft in progress and pointed out the robbers, police said.

The detective approached them in the parking lot. They had gotten into a vehicle they had loaded with the stolen merchandise, police said. When the driver accelerated the vehicle at the officer, she shot at them in “fear of her life,” police said. No one was injured.

The suspects were arrested, police said.
We scanned one of papers on-line and the usual suspects were up in arms about the gunning down of poor misunderstood people (or folks) who try to run down people with cars. No one got hit, but they were appalled that people might get shot committing crimes. The comments have since disappeared, but when the media leaves their comments unmonitored for any length of time, you can see why so many figure Chicago is lost.

I take my gun with me when I go to that shopping mall. The House of Pies was robbed, the Jewel/TCF bank has been robbed, vehicle thefts have occurred in the parking lot. I believe the bank, before it was a Bank of America, was robbed. Not to pact the gun when shopping there, at various times is asking to be a victim. Home invasions have occurred in the area. The neighbor is not the quiet place it use to be back in '60s and '70s.

Many times, at the sight of crime, our instincts kick in and we perform our duty. Unfortunately, in this era we should just say fuck it and call it in. I applaud every effort, but at the same time I am concerned for the fellow officer's safety and what IPRA and the department will do. Any real P.O. knows that the right thing was done but Joe "The Jagoff" Liberal will cry about civil rights nonsense until his wife is bricked in the head in a Gold Coast alley and sodomized.

Think of this as a cancer. Shoplifting would be this particular cancer in the early stage. If you take action against the shit head offender enough times the word will spread around to avoid this area. Cancer in remission.

If you take no action, the cancer spreads and becomes aggressive. Then your nice, quiet neighborhood where the "people that care about you" live turns to shit.

I keep seeing on many news articles of police involved shootings where it's quoted the police were "In fear of their life" when in a deadly force situation. One does not need to be in fear of their life to use deadly force plain and simple. An officer is authorized to use deadly force when he/she or someone else is about to receive serious bodily harm or substantial risk of death.

Good for her, happy she was not hit. This area is going to shit fast but hey, that's what tiny dancer wants. Having said that, how did the Jewel employees know she was the police? I carry always but when not in uniform no one knows. With all the threats against police anyone who drives their personal car all decked out is asking for trouble. If your in uniform and/or driving your "marked" car the bad guy will spot you before you spot him. Those were the rules 30 years ago, today that is more true than ever.

Ok not what I would do for the Jewel's property but I will never judge another PO's actions. Yes the northwest side is full of scum now especially with section 8 housing.

What surprises me is that when I came on over 30 years ago every copper carried off duty anywhere and everywhere we went even the watch parties and gin mills which might not have been a good idea. Back then in the academy as soon as you went into your blues and got your star you carried all the time. But back then a PPO after his FTO time could work alone and you did many times.

The job has changed so much but I sure would like to know what idiot at the academy ever convinced the young coppers not to carry off duty. It changed maybe late 90's but there are many who never carry off duty now. Get your shit together all you younger coppers and remember you are the Police you chose to be the Police and on or off duty you should always be armed like the Police.

There is no area of this city that is safe from the savages anymore, coppers on Northside and southside made the areas the place to live back in the day. A lot of coppers, firemen and other city workers made us feel secure, but thanks to the open housing market and parents not controlling their thug kids, they buy houses in our good areas and bring all that gangbanging Shit and friends with them, thus causing havoc. Section 8 housing will always be a failure due to the people that are in the program are useless mooches, the program does not force them to work and they just loaf about. I live on the border of 25 and 16 and really, there is less crime on my beat 2511, then there is in some section of 16. The 22nd district is just being devastated by thugs. It is really time that all of us take a good look around us and when you see things, call 911 and keep these thugs in your sight, Fuck the police who respond and do nothing. We all need to step up, we have to live here so protect your investments.

He will only do half his sentence at any rate, that is a year and a half. Quinn is letting many go who get within two years of their release date. So to make a show, the guy gets three years, does a couple of months, Quinn saves money, the guy gets told "This time we really mean it buster, don't do that again! please." And out he goes.

Doubt if that was MMQB but these mutts DO seem to have the devil's luck when a Copper or an upright citizen endeavors to righteously put some criminal dicks in the dirt permanently.

If the Detective's rounds actually bounced off the windshield, a serious re-evaluation of ammo is in order.

Anybody remember that bad dream inducing 147 grain subsonic 9mm when other PDs and the feds were running 115 & 124 grain +p & +p+?

Too much good ammo out there nowadays that will puncture windshields and the bad guys behind them.

"It's YOUR hide... How much do YOU value it?"

Can't exactly remember which upright gunman said that.

Col. Cooper or Bill Jordan.

The Detective is lucky and blessed.

Have you ever actually SHOT at a moving car? If you aim for the windshield, half the time the bullets glance off, some of the time the bullets shatter, but don't break it.
Don't Monday morning quarterback. Be glad she stood up and acted like the police and be glad she wasn't hurt.

Ok we'll I guess you have shot at a moving car. Bravo little dick. Now let me crush your fragile ego. You fucking missed the windshield idiot. The bullets didn't "glance off." Let me give you a little tip. I'm not sure what dimension you are from but I'm this realm car glass doesn't break like standard glass.

There is always more to every story...It was much more than a shoplifting incident as the news stated...It was a seriously dangerous situation. .that needed to be stopped for the safety of all in the area...
