Any guesses on the score of dead and wounded this long labor day weekend?
Thanks to all those who made the fund raiser for Jessica Colluci a success. Emily H, Jim O, Mike S. and Scott D did a great job and the even was attended by over 400 friends and family. Over $35,000.00 was raised to help the family.

I waited almost two years to get in front of an arbitrator and the Fop withdraws my grievance just a couple of weeks before the arbitration. No faith in this new crew at all.
Congratulations to the police Lt. who was hired in Iowa as a Police Chief in a small town. He beat out a few candidates. I don't know him, but after 27 years and at 50 seems like McCarthy didn't think highly of him to throw him a Gold Star.

Yea but keep in mind that if u think u are scamming the city by going duty disabilty when u really dont have to, then u are wrong. When u go on duty disability youre paycheck doesnt come from the city, it comes from the pension fund. Keep that in mind. Fake duty disabilities are scamming our pension fund not the city! Theres a guy in 007 who keeps trying to pull this scam.

Was talking to 1 of the ward guys said that some guy from out of state and his investment firm bought over 80 homes in the garfield ridge area and is going to make them section 8! Let's hope our community and politicians don't allow this! Is this another democratic trick to get more vote from the non taxpayers who are destroying this city/state/country?

Duty disability, I heard, is 75% tax free and they cover your insurance too. Thats what I heard.
Non-duty disability is 50% and no insurance and you get one year for every 4 years you've worked.
just for your info people who want to retire next yr for the 55 free medical insurance you only have till oct 1st to push the button as of today only 47 people put in and you need a 100, called fop and asked why they are not letting the membership know that we need 53 more people in order to get the 100 and they said they don't do that, and the members should already know this. really! I remember every year since they started this thing the fop always kept the membership informed until they reached their goal of 100 now all of a sudden the new fop doesn't do that. and I voted for these clowns just cause the new prez and bella to mention a few got theirs they don't care if we get ours unbelievable!!!!! can't wait to get far away from this place.

Just curious, who handled your case?
The asshole of the day award goes to Gerry Callahan for writing that letter to the editor of the Sunday Sun-Times about clout on the CPD. It is only because of his clout that he didn't go to jail for beating up those old folks and then fighting the Niles cops when they went to get him. His clout kept him from being fired for years before the totality as his transgressions overruled his clout. I guess he was in his usual drunken stupor when he wrote that.

I also put in the sgts lts fire contracts have it in their new negotiated contracts but they pay 2% so if your smart you will put in while it's still free gives you a 2% raise because your not paying medical and as soon as contract is settled you get the raise on your pension check and back pay like every other copper !
I just read on here about an incident with a "loud mouth" rude diner eating at Sabatino's Italian restaurant. So being a southsider who enjoys dining out, I started researching Sabatino's on various foodie blogs and websites, since I wasn't familiar with it. It seems that the incident has gone viral. I was viewing "Yelp" and someone named Logan S. From Chicago, left a scathing one-star review of the restaurant on 08/29/14 outlining the entire scenario. It seems the waitstaff moved several tables of diners, to new tables-mid meal. Rather than kindly ask the "loud, foul mouthed, off duty to keep it down"
It had to be a "boss hole!" Thanks for embarrassing an entire profession..douchebag!

When will the 1st Sgt class be? Another Detective class or test? E.T. test? Canine test? I keep hearing tests are coming but having serious doubts. A new detective test would be nice.

Two kinds of disability. Duty disability is 75%, no income taxes, totally tax free, free health insurance. Tough to get unless you have clout and requires genuine disability of some sort. If you get shot and can't use an arm or leg, it ought to be easy. Or paralyzed. They offered it to Mike Lappe, our pension rep. He refused it.
That goes until mandatory retirement age, 63, then you are put on regular pension. Your pension credits continue to accrue while on duty disability, raises etc. still kick in. You are still subject to rules and regulations of the department and can still get CR's etc since technically, you were not separated from the department. If you screw up somehow, you could even get fired.
I knew of a sergeant who was on regular disability and got convicted of a sex crime. Felony. Did time. Got fired and lost his entire pension. Appealed and lost in the Illinois Supreme Court. It is right there in pension law. Subject to Dept. Rules and Regs. If he had retired instead of trying to milk disability he would at least have the pension but he was convicted while on disability. And got fired. And he doesn't get invited to Holiday family dinners anymore since he can't be trusted around the little girls. His victim was a niece. Last I heard he was driving a cab in Las Vegas.
This job attracts some people with weird urges. Anyone on this job learns that real quick.

Carter, but I also talked to McDonough about it and he had no clue. I was shorted a day of VRI. A less senior officer was given the day over me. Grievance was withdrawn. I also just learned that there were 8 grievances set to go to arbitration in July and the Fop withdraw 7 of them. If this is true, did they just stop fighting.

I believe you are wrong. Regular disability is 50%, not 60% and you get 1 year for every 4 worked.
Not sure about getting your contributions back. You get those back if you resign or get fired, was told its a different game if you use them for benefits,such as disability. Its like the pension rule that if you retire and die say 6 months later, your beneficiary gets your contributions back,less the money payed out to you for that 6 month pension period.
I too just read the article written to the news from this retired asshole Gerry Callahan, This guy was a piece of shit, the Niles police had several run ins with him and he was and still is a drunk, his clout was his wife, so I really don't know what he is complaining about, I sure hope the guys in 16 do the right thing when you encounter him, he will put you right out on front street!!!!! BEWARE, Niles PD please lock this guy up when he is wrong, We will not bum rap you guys. Niles is a friend to the police.
