The Government Lied?

  • Activists upset with the increased jet noise from the new runway configuration at O’Hare International Airport have said they believe the city and the FAA conspired to hide the impact of new flight patterns on homes and businesses along airport flight paths.

WBBM Newsradio [...] reports there has been a steadily growing chorus of complaints about jet noise since the opening of a new east-west runway in October 2013, sending hundreds of flights a day over a narrow corridor.

Figures the FAA provided in 2005 regarding the percentage of flights O’Hare runways would carry after the $8 billion airport expansion project was completed were incorrect, and significantly underestimated the impact of runway traffic.
With billions in construction contracts on the line, is anyone really surprised that Daley manipulated the data or had the data manipulated? Shortshanks didn't live north and didn't live in the 'burbs, so what the hell did he care about noise data? Not that we have much sympathy for those complaining either - the airport has been there for decades. It's not like some big secret. And to keep the economic engine running, "improvements" will have to be made near constantly.

But why is anyone surprised anyone associated with the government lied?

Some times the government must lie. If they told citizens the truth, they might revolt. As for jet noise, a wise man once told me, "don't buy a house within five or six miles of a busy airport". He was right. No sympathy for the whiners.

It is not a case of someone buying a house next to the airport for a bargain price complaining about the noise. Such people brought themselves to the nuisance, as you suggested, and ought not to complain. The controversy is on account of high amounts of air traffic passing over neighborhoods that were not previously subject to flight patterns and which, in many cases, are miles away from O'Hare.

I would say that it's one thing if you already lived on a runway flight path and then newer/larger planes were making louder noise.

However, if they re-route a flight path right over your home, that can be a huge difference.

It is horrible in 016, I think that Laurino, O'Connor, Arena, Quigley, Schakowsky, Mulroe, Martwick, etcetra all better watchout! I have never seen people so pissed off! I will vote for ANY non-incumbent.

Property crime is skyrocketing!

They are going to make Milwaukee Ave a two lane street from 5200N-6400N completely destroying the neighborhoods, killing the remaining businesses and causing massive traffic congestion, snow removal problems and clogging the side streets with overflow traffic.

The Airplane noise is out-of-control! Planes low flying at all hours of the day and night shaking the houses, exceeding the sound ratings, destroying property values and quality of life!

There are little to NO police patrolling the NW side neighborhoods!

Water bills are skyrocketing! Property taxes are going up, city stickers are going up, cellular phone taxes are ridiculous!

....

The Department of Justice does not have receipts for more than half of the unaccompanied alien children apprehended at the southwest border by Border Patrol since the start of fiscal year 2013, government records show.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection data show more than 85,000 total apprehensions of unaccompanied alien children during fiscal year 2013 and fiscal year 2014 through June. Information from the same time period provided to National Review Online by the DOJ’s Executive Office for Immigration Review shows 41,592 total receipts marked as juvenile in immigration courts. Kathryn Mattingly, spokesperson for EOIR, tells NRO the receipts refer to new Notices to Appear (NTA) — the document the Department of Homeland Security uses to charge an illegal immigrant with being removable from the United States.

EOIR has recorded 20,814 receipts marked as juvenile in fiscal year 2014 as of June 30, but Border Patrol recorded 57,525 apprehensions of unaccompanied alien children during the same time frame. This means immigration courts have receipts for fewer than four out of every ten unaccompanied alien children apprehended by Border Patrol this fiscal year. Mattingly said EOIR stands behind the numbers of receipts it has recorded, but would not speak about the difference between the number of juvenile receipts and CBP’s apprehension data.

Also, they must rotate runway use because one day we'll have the jets either landing or taking off and the next day nothing.

My home in the "burbs" was built in 1927. When Orchard Field was a buss with single propeller planes. I don't live by the airport, I now live in it. If the airport needs to expand I think we all get that. Add the western access construction mess and this has turned into a nightmare for most of us. Help the people get out of the way. You would be surprised just how many "people" would gladly move on which completely contradicts what the local government will tell you. We are all pretty sick of the lies on all fronts.

Lets not forget that they changed the approach pattern to Midway also. Planes are now flying much lower over Bridgeport and Pilsen. And Daleys left over Aldermanic yes man, Balcer, also pushed for and approved a heliport for a tourist company with tens of flights each day at 22nd Halsted without letting the neighborhoods know until it was too late. But it is all good because Balcer and his son rode in those helicopters and knows how quiet they really are. I hate this city.

The noise is horrendous since they moved the runways, even people in wildwood, sauganash and albany park are getting it, and they are nowhere near the airport. I live under the Thorndale runway and every two minutes for hours at a time there is jet noise. I had to say goodbye to my back yard and now have to move.

A recent research article listed the most corrupt states in the union. Of course, Illinois was a prominent entry. But, the one key point that tied all of the corrupt states together was construction projects. Yes, construction at a much higher rate then the better run states. Surprisingly, Californa and NY were not on the top ten. It cited the fact that corruption can be hidden in these projects. No surprise there.

Big Shorty "Comes Up Short"?

There's those words, again!

Did Chicago's facial recognition system catch its first crook?

How advanced police technology comes up short

When Pierre D. Martin was arrested on robbery charges, it didn’t seem like an unusual case. There were nearly 12,000 robberies reported to the Chicago Police Department last year, and Martin was charged in two of them after allegedly carrying out daytime stickups on commuter trains. But a July 2013 Chicago Sun-Times article pointed out why Martin’s case stood out: he had been identified using facial recognition technology.

Martin was convicted in June this year. At that time, the state’s attorney, Anita Alvarez, told the Sun-Times: "This case is a great example that these high-tech tools are helping to enhance identification and lead us to defendants that might otherwise evade capture." But those tools — purchased by CPD through a $5.4 million federal grant — may not be as necessary as Alvarez would have you believe.

Martin's attorney told The Verge that facial recognition tech wasn’t even mentioned at trial. And a Freedom of Information Act request with CPD revealed "no responsive records" related to the department’s use of facial recognition technology in any arrests, including Martin’s. That could mean CPD is concealing arrests tied to facial recognition. But Hanni Fakhoury, a staff attorney at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, offers another possibility: "Maybe ultimately facial recognition isn’t really all that effective," he wrote in an email to The Verge. Maybe "all this money being put into it is a waste."

(youtube) - Abandoning America

There's no upside to being an American company.

After all the tax breaks, government subsidies and even taking peoples property away thru eminent domain laws, that's not enough.

Corporations have chewed all the meat off the bone and are now fleeing the country with tax inversions and other schemes to protect their wealth from the coming economic collapse.

This clip is right on.

Expect capitol controls soon to prevent the public from moving their assets off shore.

When it all collapses people better have better provided for their own self defense.

When the 2 million plus people in Chicago can't get their food stamps because the US can't sell bonds to borrow money anymore because no-one trust the bonds will even be paid back -- what do you suppose is gonna happen?

When the social security checks stop?

When CPD payroll checks bounce?

When the trillions of dollars being borrowed to create the illusion of economic growth is no longer able to be borrowed. Where's the money going to come from to keep this economic fraud going?

Hey, my guess is CPD is not going to work for free if the paychecks stop.

Even if they did who's gonna buy the gas for the cruisers, the lights, the ammo, the infrastructure?

People, y'all better learn how to be self-sufficient esp. when it comes to self defense.

There just might not be anyone coming to do the dirty work of saving us as we cower in the corner waiting for the good guys to arrive.

The corporations are fleeing with their money because they see what is coming and with it go the tax dollars that once supported what is now a crumbling infrastructure.

The corporations are done with the USA and all of us. Time to move on and rape some other community.

I went from having zero planes flying over my home to now I'd say an average of 20 - 25 planes per hour fly over or near my home approaching Ohare. Luckily, I'm still far enough away that they're not that low, but it is still kind of annoying. Also, if you drive North, you can see these planes are approaching from all over the place (one right after another) where they were not doing that before the expansion. It has definitely affected most resident's quality of life IMO. Only thing that really pisses me off were the estimates of plane traffic given by the FAA. They stated before the expansion that there would be roughly 70 flights per day approaching over my area, where in reality it's closer to 250 - 300+ flights per day. Just one extra FU from the Daley crime family. I look forward to moving someday (or at least trying to).

As usual they just lie and push shit through no matter who and how it affects people. There's too much money for developers to make to let quality of life and tax payers stand in the way of lining the pockets of the connected.
That's been the problem with this city and most projects they do.
So please don't blame people who live 10 miles from Ohare for "buying next to an airport." It's an ignorant response.

No one reasonably expects the flight paths to be altered. O'Hare is a major hub in the national air system. Adjusting the boundries for qualifying for extensive home improvements, windows, doors, a/c, insulation is the only goal.

Hell of lot cheaper than sending your kids to St. Patricks High School or fill in the School name!

Its a little work, but in the long run well worth it! My District is next to the Expressway, and commute times are not bad! This City sucks!

Drawing a straight line from home to airport, I'm 8.5 miles away. Lucky me, I'm under a new flight path that brings 350+ airplanes per day over my home 24x7x365 since October 2013.

FAA recently lifted flight caps with their new radar system and flies them lower over city to save fuel, that's why more people are noticing that never did before.

Only thing that really pisses me off were the estimates of plane traffic given by the FAA. They stated before the expansion that there would be roughly 70 flights per day approaching over my area, where in reality it's closer to 250 - 300+ flights per day.

Ok. You can come down off your roof and stop counting planes. If this really pisses you off then do something besides whining. You and your neighbors should get together, form a group and protest the issue.

There's an election coming up. Do some research. It's one thing to post here that RAHM LIED! It's a totally different issue when you can back that up with copies of articles that quote Rahm and the airport authorities telling the public that "you won't even notice the increase of air traffic".

But this will never happen. The majority of comments on the issue here come from coppers and as we all know, you can't get 2 coppers to agree as to where to have lunch, let alone actually get off the lazy asses and actually DO SOMETHING.

All the schools are being sound proofed outside of the sound zone, why?

If they are outside the sound zone and there is an acceptable noise level why are they being sound proofed?

Because the alleged sound zones are complete BS

8/09/2014 07:14:00 PM

I asked the alderman the same question after they sound proofed a school .5 miles further from the airport than my house, and was told schools are held to a different threshold for sound proofing. Pile of shit.

To the poster that wants a yard sign, join fair-allocation-in-runways@google groups, or check the website at Fairchicago.org. You can also go to the ONCC website to request a Noise Monitor or call O'Hare Noise Compatibility Commission. There is a waiting period, but they will put you on a list. Go to the Fair website, it will tell you of meetings, etc., There is a demonstration planned at the ONCC meeting on September 5th, at 8 AM, at Depaul University, O'Hare, 8770 W. Bryn Mawr. I plan to be there. You can also sign a petition on the FAIR website. GET INVOLVED OR SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES. If you think its bad now, wait till they open the new runway next year!

I called Alderman O'Connor's office to complain and was told this was done before she was elected and that there is nothing she can do to fix it.

Guess what, there is something my family can do and that is to vote you out.

8/09/2014 07:04:00 PM

Sternly tell O'Connor the same thing I told Arena's people, she's elected to solve community problems, not ignore them, or blame their predecessor. If she's incapable of working on solutions, she's no longer capable of being an Alderman of the 41st Ward because that's what the job entails.

To the poster that said the airport was there first, you really show your ignorance. It was first conceived in 1945, in 1955 commercial flights began using it, and by 1960, when the Kennedy expressway was built, was in full swing. Many of the neighborhoods on the Northwest side pre-date the airport, so you argument does not hold water. Also the areas that are now affected, some of which are 10 miles away, never had any airplane noise, or jets flying so low overhead. When quality of life becomes a factor, and people move out or rent to Section 8, you have a problem with neighborhood instability, which makes these areas less desirable and attracts less desirable residents. This affects crime, property values and everyone should be concerned.

Easy for all of you to say deal with it. In 93, when I moved near Midway, for 2 years I searched for a house which was not in a direct path. When they remodeled the airport. They lengthened a shorter runway which now has commercial jets taking off almost directly over my house. This has decreased my property value. I would have never bought this house if I knew this was going to change. Keep up your fight and complaints O'Hare people. No one fought here at
Midway that I know of.

Your money's been spent. The runways are here to stay.

Any guess what a 6' depth of concrete, 2 miles long costs when they city is paying a connected contractor?

I have a strong feeling that voter backlash will be severe.

"Voter backlash" hasn't been "severe" for anything since Bilandic got his ass kicked by Byrne.

If this is the issue that makes that a reality, then so be it.

I won't hold my breath.

So please don't blame people who live 10 miles from Ohare for "buying next to an airport." It's an ignorant response.

No it isn't. 10 miles is nothing when you're flying a fully-loaded commercial aircraft at 200+ mph.

Maybe they could cut their engines 10 miles out and glide in.

A recent research article listed the most corrupt states in the union. Of course, Illinois was a prominent entry.

Here, great time-lapse aerial photos of exactly what happened to hundreds of homes and businesses in Bensenville for that new runway. Really sums it up.

http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2014/07/25/as-ohare-expanded-time-lapse-shows-demise-of-bensenville-neighborhood/

No home owners are to blame. The flight patterns have indeed dramatically changed -- I'm looking north from around North Avenue, and this summer's traffic is totally different from last summer's.

There are lots more aircraft right over Norwood Park now, and they are running parallel landing approaches in from the east, two and three aircraft at a time. Whereas they used to come straight down Lawrence Ave., now they are just about as heavy over the Kennedy too -- thus, the "stereo effect" people who live in between on Foster Ave. are noticing.

A lot of planes take off in the evening, towards the west, and then do a climbing turn, heading southeast towards and over Elmwood Park now, too.

See it all for yourself, live, right here.

You can have the monitoring done for your house, but it is for informational purposes only and doesnt affect anything the FAA is doing. It also has no effect on the home insulation and soundproofing program and you have to sign that you are financially responsible if the equipment on your property gets damaged.
