- Sneed hears that the Rev. Michael Pfleger, who has been trying to get guns off the streets for years, has now got a powerful gunsight trained on him.
◆ To wit: The Illinois State Rifle Association, the Illinois chapter of the NRA, is now comparing the firebrand priest, pastor of one of the largest African-American Catholic congregations in Chicago — to the international terrorist group ISIS!
“These guys are nuts,” said Pfleger, who claims a “hate email” was dispatched by the gun group following news that he is hosting a press conference and rally at Chuck’s Gun Shop in south suburban Riverdale on Saturday to urge gun shop owners to ensure their weapons don’t end up in the hands of criminals. In a city report, Chuck’s was found to have sold more guns later recovered at crime scenes than any other firearms dealer in the area.
“They are equating me with ISIS, the most hated group in the world, who just beheaded two American journalists, and are urging their members to attend our rally,” Pfleger said.
A segment of the incendiary email, obtained by Sneed, states: “You’ll hear the lies, the fabricated statistics, and the hysterical claims about how private firearm ownership is dooming mankind. If Pfleger takes the stage you’ll certainly be entertained by his special brand of frothy-lipped lunacy. Few will forget Pfleger’s rant in front of Chucks several years ago when he called for the ISIS-style murders of gun shop owners and elected officials who support gun rights.”
A quick search of the internet reveals what ISRA was referring to:
- Rev. Michael Pfleger, pastor of St. Sabina’s Church, went way over the top this week. During a protest against Chuck’s Gun Shop, Father Pfleger twice threatened to “snuff out” the shop’s owner and threatened the same fate for legislators who oppose his position on gun control.
“We’re gonna find you and snuff you out,” Fleger said about the gun shop owner, likening the man to a “rat.” He later repeated his threat to “snuff out” the owner.
Fleger also had this to say to state legislators who vote against gun control measures.
“We’re gonna snuff out legislators who are voting [garbled] against our gun laws and we’re coming for you because we are not going to sit idly.”
A supposed "man of God" threatening to kill people selling a perfectly legal product to citizens and to kill legislators who vote to uphold the Constitution of the United States and State of Illinois?

Cynthia, a 47-year-old widow, realized that somebody was trying to break into her house one morning in May. She didn't panic, didn't back down and she didn't go all Rambo either.
Instead, she simply defended herself and police say she did everything right. She called 911, she armed herself with a gun she knew how to use and she retreated to the bathroom, hoping that help would arrive in time but knowing that if it didn't she would just have to provide her own rescue.
The 911 tape, released this morning, provides a chilling account of her encounter with Michael Lewis, who used a weeding tool to break the glass in the backyard Arcadia door of her west Phoenix home.
"They've tried my front door, my front door, and now they're trying to break in my back gate…," Cynthia tells the 911 operator at one point. "I have a gun in my hands. I'm terrified."
Later, "Somebody is on my back porch." And then, "Please help me, please!" as the operator assures her that help is on the way.
"They're coming out as fast as they can," the operator says. "Have you heard any voices?"
Cynthia: "Hurry, hurry! They're coming in right now, please, please, please!
As it turns out, the police weren't coming quickly enough. Lewis broke into the bathroom and started attacking Cynthia. So she shot him.
Lewis: "Ow! (Expletive.) What was that? What was that? What was that? (Expletive) did you do?"
Her answer was classic. "Did you think you could beat me half to death?"
Lewis: "I'm sorry. I'm sorry..."
Cynthia: "You bet you're sorry you nasty thing."

I submitted this letter to the editor after Sneed buffed and fluffed his efforts to get Diocese properties to post (no CCW) back on August 1st.
I read the edition today and noticed Michael Sneeds column containing the story about Father Michael Pflegers continued obsession with restricting the rights of law-abiding citizens, and since your website does not have the option to provide feedback I am replying in this fashion.
Father Pflegers call for the Archdiocese to ban lawfully carried firearms from all their properties proves that he has performed no research on the subject he presents himself as qualified to speak on; if he was, he would know that our concealed carry law is the result of a lawsuit, filed after an attack upon a 69 year old woman who worked at the Anna Baptist Church, who was beaten nearly to the point of death by a convicted felon while within the church after being denied the right to provide for the means to defend herself by Illinois law as she could in Florida and Pennsylvania.
His continued hostility towards those who provide for their own self-defense is in direct contradiction to the tenets of the Catholic Church, specifically the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Part three, Section Two, Chapter Two, Article Five The Fifth Commandment, which reads in part: Love toward oneself remains a fundamental principle of morality. Therefore it is legitimate to insist on respect for one's own right to life. Someone who defends his life is not guilty of murder even if he is forced to deal his aggressor a lethal blow.
The Catechism continues St. Thomas Aquinas wrote: If a man in self-defense uses more than necessary violence, it will be unlawful: whereas if he repels force with moderation, his defense will be lawful. . . . Nor is it necessary for salvation that a man omit the act of moderate self-defense to avoid killing the other man, since one is bound to take more care of one's own life than of another's. Legitimate defense can be not only a right but a grave duty for one who is responsible for the lives of others. The defense of the common good requires that an unjust aggressor be rendered unable to cause harm.
His continual intentional equation of gang bangers and criminals to law abiding gun owning citizens is bearing false witness, a particularly grave offense. As the Catechism later states in Part Three, Section Two, Chapter Two Article Eight states When it is made publicly, a statement contrary to the truth takes on a particular gravity. In court it becomes false witness. When it is under oath, it is perjury. Acts such as these contribute to condemnation of the innocent, exoneration of the guilty, or the increased punishment of the accused. They gravely compromise the exercise of justice and the fairness of judicial decisions. But I guess the importance of obeying that Commandment depends on which is more important living a faithful life or conveying a political message.
His statement that only police should have guns! flies in the face of over 20 decisions and 158 years of case law that specifically excuse the government from being responsible for our safety, and places the burden for our protection squarely upon our shoulders, making it seem that he is as ignorant of secular law as Canonical.
Perhaps the man who boasts of being the only priest in the archdiocese to be suspended twice! should review the Scriptures for guidance about the Capital Sin of Pride, or perhaps consider leaving the Church of Rome and becoming a televangelist, which seems to suit his personality much more than the humility that St. Paul spoke of.
They declined to publish it, and have also removed the "comments" section from their website. I guess all the negatives were making it too hard to take their pieces seriously.

Hopefully one of the retiring Cardinal Georges last acts will be to transfer this shitstain out of St. Sabina so he can quit the church as he threatened to do.

They have closed a lot of parishes and a lot of schools anyway, just for lack of money -- let alone for a giant-sized ongoing embarassment and scandal like this.
Descending spiral in a disintegrating city; the plain jobs that supported the plain people and held the ordinary neighborhoods together are gone, and with them the flock -- fleeing from the decay, from the wave of violence.
Where is the memorial to those who suffered so -- moving again and again and yet again to try to have a decent life? Perhaps a statue of two guys carrying a dresser down three floors, the kids waiting on the curb beside a pile of boxes? I can't imagine the dedication of a bronze sculpture entitled "White Flight" in any of this city's public spaces -- just fiberglass cows and giant headless, armless cast-iron figures for dogs to pee on.
This guy seems to be doing the Archdiocese more harm than good anyway. Like you imply, the whole operation is more a "cult of personality" revolving around Pfleger then anything else. This is exactly what the church limits on the time a pastor can serve were designed to prevent.
I think that a lot of people are drawn there just by the noise and the bright lights; when that electric organ stops pumping and the choir stops clapping and stomping and the man is no longer there to tell everyone how wonderful they all are, maybe the crowd drifts away and it's time for the board-up guy again...

Thanks. I meant it from the heart. I was born here, grew up here...and can hardly recognize the place anymore.
The parasites crawl in, eat the insides out, and leave the empty shell there...
My family has blood soaked into the ground in Grand Crossing. One of us died there trying to fix something, repair it, make it better. Today? The place is so bad that it's more than my life is worth to go back to the spot and spend some time, say a prayer for him...
No one speaks of what has been taken from us.
