First the Trib...

...now the Sun Times? (warning - password site)
  • After insisting for nearly three years that it would no longer endorse candidates for political office, the Sun-Times is reversing itself and formally backing Republican Bruce Rauner for governor.

The Sun-Times announced Friday that its Sunday edition would carry its choice for governor. Although the announcement stopped short of saying whom the newspaper would endorse, sources confirmed that Rauner would get the nod enthusiastically over Democrat Pat Quinn.
Tribune endorsement is here.

Sun Times excuses over here.

Now who are the Rockford and East St. Louis papers endorsing? Those are the other two counties Quinn won last time. Maybe this is the end finally?

I don't like either candidate, but it's hinky that the S-T endorses Rauner without even talking to/questioning Quinn.

I think it funny that you believe Illinois will get better once a Republican gets elected as Governor. Republicans are Democrat Lites in Illinois, Combine, Machine, take your pick of names that describe the systematic wealth redistribution from the middle class to the parasites with a healthy skimming of funds going to the wealthy connected all run by King Madigan. Rauner can't sign a bill into law that doesn't make it to his desk, and we all know that NOTHING gets passed with out King Madigan's say. Look how his butt-boy Landek originally got the Senator position: Madigan said "All those in favor? All those against? Motion passed." No one vote for or against Landek getting the job, Madigan GAVE IT TO HIM. Illinois can not change until Madigan is no long holding the purse strings of a majority of the Democrats in this state.

Rauner is the Combine candidate, so of course he gets the endorsement.

They need to illegally loot the pensions, so they got Rahm's buddy to run as a Republican in order to take the blame away from the party that has defunded the pensions, when they make the wealth transfer official next year.

Which candidate will finally give retirees born after 1955 a 3% Cola.

We are the only police agency in the State whose retirees born after 1955 don't have at least a 3% cola to protect against inflation.

Correction. I am retired CPD and live in Winnebago County, Rockford, Illinois is the county seat. Quinn lost in 2010 57% for Brady, 35% for Quinn. Quinn won only 4 counties in Illinois, Cook, St Clair and 2 very small downstate counties where he had a lead of only a few hundred votes. Cook County gave Quinn over 650K votes more than Brady. Quinn is the governor of Cook County. Also in the St. Louis area Quinn lost as well.

Both of those rags are always calling for pension "reform" too. You think it's a coincidence they endorse Rauner?
They know that Rahm and Rauner will be a tag team extraordinaire with their all out assault on our pensions.
Rauner thinks "special interest groups", like us, are the problem and he's repeatedly vowed to stand up to them and slap them down.
I don't see how any public servant could consider voting for Rauner.
Then again I would've thought we'd of had 85-95% of us voting on something as important as this last contract.... we see how that played out.

I really hope if bruce wins he will be the "hope and change" all you pro rauner people are looking for. I think he will be the "pension change" rahm is banking on from "down state" to fuck us all out of our guaranteed retirement. Rahm isn't worried about karen or bob. Why do you think pension is kicked off budget again till next year.

These fucks don't control how the public votes, remember that.

What should be of concern to all CPD members here is that Rauner fully intends to do away with collective bargaining and union representation of all public employees, and the legislature sees dollar signs in it for them if they can get rid of public sector unions in this state.

This is NOT protected by the constitution, it's merely a law that can be deleted.

You think you have problems with a corrupt union now against a shitheel like Emanuel?

Wait until you either no longer HAVE representation or collective bargaining is cut to ribbons for you. Then take a look at what happens with your work conditions, wages, benefits, etc.

In the very least if Rauner wins, if getting rid of public sector unions outright can't be done, he'll ensure that Illinois becomes a "right to be poor" state for public sector employees.

And after they all have you shitting on your own unions thinking they're corrupt, you'll all kill your own representation by "opting out" of your union.

Then you'll have ZERO protection when it comes to your pensions, because you no longer have any entity with the resources to fight in court.

Rauner wins? Enjoy losing everything you have, including your pension. The 2% you just agreed to and the wages, benefits etc? All gonna be gone if that elitist shitheel buys this election.

Trib and Sun Times are no longer independant companies, bought up by private equity firms after their respective bankruptcies. Transferring wealth, inflating assets, depleting staff and (union) expenditures and essentially shutting done independants.
Why wouldn't these media entities support one of their own?

Dont forget they have their wish list of money grabs too. Hey PUTZ

Uhhh, your yes vote just screwed you for your own retirement genius. You just agreed to allow them to go around the law and diminish your pension. Yea, thats right, take a minute to let that sink in. You did that. The time to be "on the ball" was now when they are trying to make you pay 2% of your retirement to health care that will undoubtedly go up and up in the future... putz.

Please explain this ............how do you figure I'm dying to hear your explanation on your thinking

Rauner is thick as thieves with Rahm. Rauner set up Rahm's motherlode banking deal that netted Rahm about $18 million.
Both Rahm and Rauner are anti public servant and anti public servant's pensions. You don't think a Rahm and Rauner tag team wouldn't be worse for us??

Illinois has the worst pension crisis in America. It’s part of the reason why we have the worst credit rating in America — 12 credit downgrades under Quinn-Madigan alone.

We cannot secure Illinois’ economic future without fundamental reforms to our pension system.

We must keep our promise to current retirees, but we put all government workers at risk by continuing to promise a pension no one can afford.

The victims here are both the taxpayers who cannot afford to pay for these pensions and the workers who have been misled by union bosses and career politicians into believing these unsustainable pensions will be there for them.

We have reached a crossroads on the issue. I believe we must choose to address this problem head-on. No tinkering around the edges.

We must boldly reform our pension system. To do that, we can:

Ensure pay and benefits do not rise faster than the rate of inflation.
Eliminate the ability of government employees to receive massive pay raises before they retire just to increase their pension.
Cap the current system and move towards a defined contribution system.

No thank you to the Rauner campaign worker that posted this information. My salary and benefits as a government employee are being easily outpaced by inflation, so there is no worry about me having an "out of control salary" that your campaign loves to try and tell everyone that I have.
Even if I thought that Rauner really cared about the working man, I couldn't vote for him because he just comes off like a complete asshole. I'll tell you what Bruce, why worry more about keeping your son out of Walgreens instead of trying to ruin the working mans benefits.
