I heard only 5000 ballots received at FOP. That is totally unacceptable. What a useless bunch we are. We can't even mail in a simple ballot.

And everyone of you that didn't vote will be the first crying about how long its taking to get your money. Disgraceful

Bet it passes by 200 to 300 votes .
Remember when vote for ten hour day was a tie , yeah right . A lot of folks won't vote , those inside cowards 20% management will vote yes .
Selling out new people hurts our pension , hurts the new officers that are stuck on first and third watch .
Duty availability should be taken away from all second watch officers . More people work days than first and third watch , many are office police Homan square , headquarters m crime lab , courts etc .

If only 2000 copper vote, and the vote count is 999(No) to 1001(Yes). Will the contract be ratified with approx 10% of the membership voting? Doesn't NLB rules require that at least 50% of the membership vote with contract and strikes? Each union can increase the % required, but can't reduce it.

Oh, Dean we didn't forget that the contract was not voted on by the union reps. Trustees, your also on the list because you voted lock step with "Pops."

I am a retiree so I will get 2013 retro, but you deserve much better than this. Two bad contracts, back to back, two percent annual increases over ten years, half your career for chump change! 400 cars, the next contract will involve a new weight room in 020 for you'all! Maybe even repaving the parking lot at holman square will be in the next contract. Not much fight in the fop on this one. They will say they were hamstrung by the shields letter! Doesn't take much to beat this fop jv team these days.

Dean,

Your pathetically weak contract passes. Why don't you help bring the membership together, by thanking everyone who participated in the process and cast their ballot?

Instead of taking the moral high ground, you take yourself to the gutter and essentially dismiss all the membership who disagreed with you and voted NO..calling us nay-sayers and troublemakers. Dean I didn't bow to pressure, I stuck to my principles and proudly voted NO!

Now you can go get your steak dinner with Rahm. Don't dislocate your shoulder patting yourself on the back. Just because it overwhelmingly passed, doesn't make it the best contract in history. It still sucks, and in two years when it expires, the subsequent contract will see even more erosion to our contractual benefits. Thanks for nothing!

Are you kidding me, when asked asked at the district what FOP asked for, the FOP representatives didn't know. It's all just A, B, C items but no knowledge of what those A,B, and C items were. Remember Sadam Hussain would get 99% of the vote, but was despised.

Yeah, how about all the voting ballots people never received in the mail and incorrect addresses? Let's brush all this under the rug, move on, nothing to see here. D.A. thinks this is some big accomplishment of him and his team. Sell-out to mayor, see where his son goes in the next few years and it will speak for itself. Someone made a lot of money on this deal, and it wasn't the working police officer, which if I'm not mistaken is the purpose of this Union. Somehow we always land up getting the raw end, not only from the City but now our Lodge #7. I've never seen such an opinionated urge for us to vote 'Yes' then ever before from the people who are supposed to be neutral. Can we say, "vested interest"? Wonder why. The City and D.A.'s family won big on this one. First, Shields messed up and now we are bent over again with no lube a second time.

For those idiot Mofo's who voted "YES"....you are just as ignorant as the the people you POLICE AND BITCH ABOUT!!! Yeah you got retro comming but you also got a pension that will be categorically and systematically diminished. Contract approved. Rauner elected. 9.5 re-elected. Dean Jr gets promoted cause daddy delivered the vote. 2017 we get fucked even more cause by then R Squared would have all their pieces in place to redo and shit away what the city owe's us and increase health care for retiree's.

I agree contract wasn't the best and I didn't think we can get any better. I voted yes to pass contract. To all officers who hate the contract and are going to talk crap about the ones who voted yes. You have two options quit these great department and return your retro pay, pay raise. Make it payable to Rahm Emmanuel because you are the ones who bitch and complain. They could of presented you with a great contract and you still wouldn't be happy.

I voted no because I can see past the $$$ that the city is offering us now. Think about this 2% retiree charge on healthcare. You retire and are now on a fixed income and you are being forced to pay 2% of your retiree benefits back. This diminishes your benefits and would violate the IL constitution except, you agreed to be f**ked. Its 2% now and when you go to retire it will be more like 10%.
Then there are these 400 cars. Why this is in a LABOR contract is beyond me. This just opens the door to abuses by the city. Too many holes in the lot well its not in your contract. Building too moldy, sorry not in the contract. Sewage pipe bursts in the locker room, we'll put some duct tape on it till its contact time.
Did you see the RED EYE? They broke down the revenue the city made from different taxes and many of the categories they exceeded the budget 2014. Enjoy your pittance retro check sell outs.

Sadly this contract is hwat leads to the destruction of unions. When you divide benefits, the shift differential, it opens the door for the city on the next contract to diminish benefits. The best example is what happend at Ford motors on Torrence. They hired new workers but not at union scale, in fact nearly 50% less than union scale, now Gov' Quinn brags about the hiring and RAM can brag that he diminshed the benefits/pay of new CPD hires. THIS SEPERATION OF PAY IN THE DUTY AVAILABILTY DIMINSHES THE CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE PENSION FUND BY THE MEMBERSHIP AND THE CITY. BET THE F L O P DIDNT TELL YOU THAT FACT.

I VOTED NO BECAUSE of all the things wrong with this contract... some top idiotic points are:
•department police vehicles ( i know, dont worry, i have less then 20yrs so I'll be peddling my own bike in part of the 2 m$ll$on 2015 bike police budget)
•Tiered (as of today, still unk) health care. I pay wayyyyy more for wayyyyyy shitter service
•Pension "renegotiation" language hahahahaha yeah, but the City can say a big fat NO
•IAD/IPRA wtf kinda verbage is this?!?!?! 1st the "if we have video/audio we may or may not tell you" also, One will ask questions while one takes notes then note taker will ask questions while the other takes notes and so on and so on til they have the answers they want LOL are they fuckin retarded 2yr olds! Do we get the same courtesy with the lying shitbags (sgts too that eagerly take them) that lie or mislead in the attempt to jam us up and sue everyone cause we all know the city Payz...

God let me stop because it's HAPPY SWEETEST DAY WISHES TO ALL Good luck to all of us! Keep each other safe and go home the way you came in

I am disappointed, I voted NO, because we are going to screw the new guys.

In a real union, this would NEVER happen.

That is fine, I will go with what the majority wanted, there is really no recourse.

I listened to some of you say why you voted "yes".. I am shocked at the utter lack of intelligence and the allure of some shitty retro money.

I know in 5-8 years there will be an "I told you so" moment and I hope we are ALL prepared for it, because we ALL will get it.

ot 2% for health insurance is that for family plan or just ind. they will charge another 8% for spouse and 10% per child with two children that's 40% and then they will not cover children until age 26 as mandated by ACA,by the way the new contract for 2017 may be higher.

This is my 5th and probably final contract. I can understand the REASONING why officers voted for and against the contract. What I didn't understand is how many officers voted in a blind fury without understanding the issues properly. I didn't like the contract, but to listen to so many friends vote no due to rumors and misunderstandings was ludicrous. The same goes for those who voted yes and ONLY saw money. Have we as a group become as ignorant and as irrationally emotional as many of those whom we come in contact with out on the street?

I agree contract wasn't the best and I didn't think we can get any better. I voted yes to pass contract. To all officers who hate the contract and are going to talk crap about the ones who voted yes. You have two options quit these great department and return your retro pay, pay raise. Make it payable to Rahm Emmanuel because you are the ones who bitch and complain. They could of presented you with a great contract and you still wouldn't be happy.

10/17/2014 05:56:00 PM

Well, we will never know now will we. What we do know is that we were presented with a crappy contract covered in retro glitter and you ate it up. Only later will you find out just how bad of a contract it was as the %'s for all the doors you allowed open get further tweaked in future contracts. As for complaining, I am allowed to take issue with a sub-par contract that is far less than what we deserve and one that sets us up to lose a lot more in the future than any temporary gain now. But it's too late to do anything about that now and it would be a waste of time to try and explain it to you. I had no intention of addressing anyone who voted yes, but if you are going to be smug and do preemptive bitching about potential bitchers, then you ask for it. Your vote was bought and paid for just like the democrat welfare vote. You sold out your own future as well as everyone else’s just for a years worth of salary only retro. That does give people the right to complain about the results and makes you look like even more of an ass for gloating about it. You seem to be a prime example of why one should have to pass an I.Q. test before being allowed to vote on anything of more importance than "whats for dinner?". Enjoy your retro, hope you do not miss all that you gave up in the future. But based on the logic and composition of your post, one thing you will not be missing is the educational reimbursement program since skoolin doesn't seem to be your strong suit.

Uhhh, your yes vote just screwed you for your own retirement genius. You just agreed to allow them to go around the law and diminish your pension. Yea, thats right, take a minute to let that sink in. I voted yes....for those who care to read on, here is why.....
1. We would not get anything more from an arbitraitor than was already agreed upon by the negotiating committee.
2. Of the items that were agreed upon i am happy that we are getting the retro pay for the first year that we would have otherwise lost.
3. On the 2% for 55 and out....the agreement for the free insurance ends in 2017. It is my understanding that the city could have eliminated this benefit completely in 2017. If we can keep the benefit for 2% its better than nothing.
4. On the duty availability for new hires.... If someone wants this job they know their benefits and wages coming into the job. This contract change causes them to lose $1000. If they dont like it they can apply at other departments. It is simple economics, if the pay is too low the city won't have enough people applying for the job and then they will need to increase pay or add benefits to attract new hires.
5. The new insurance plan....this one probably was the toughest choice. As far as it was explained i should not see any change in my plan. Hopefully that will be the case.
6. The furlough....this is complete bullshit. The union sold out every officer on this. Those that it it benefits now will get screwed in years to come....most likely when you have a family and getting time off when your kids are off is most important. If it was possible to vote no and sit back at the table to negotiate this issue I would have been a no vote.

Finally, i dont believe the bullshit about how we were screwed because "we went last". If that were the case the city would negotiate with the P.O.'s last for every contract. In fact I think our union had it easiest going last because they could say "The fire department only got this, or the sergeants only got that, we aren't going to get anything better".

And I believe the rules of personal medical illness were changed to like one year over the duration of an officers career -- you need to find out because if you have been off work for a particular illness or injury or a year and you don't come back to work. You will be forced out. You can thank Ladner for that. You better pull up the new medical order and become familiar with the changes and think about how long you plan on recovering at home.

Worse than a rabbit with a carrot dangling. Pathetic. The mayor laughs that we fell for his 1 year retro "promise" falling down to our knees to worship him. He also thinks its comical all he had to do is promise a few measly merit promotions to DA JR's future career to save millions. They're eating steak and lobster, and we are licking crumbs off the floor while he throws bread at us like dogs. Everyone is afraid of the big bad scary wolf of an arbitrator, like we don't look at fear in its face on the streets every day of our careers. The "old cpd" would have tossed this piece of garbage that the union offered and fought for all members of this dept. Those 4755 members should be ashamed at what they voted for and not reading the fine print. The real police always stuck together..now they are divided.

10/17/2014 09:44:00 PM

Older than when we approved a contract opening the door to payng for health insurance? While I agree that this is awful and that we are divided, let's not pretend that this division is new. This job changed after the last of the world war 2 guys retired.

No. He's right. 1500 is for the PORTION of retro we would have lost at arbitration. We still would have received a retro check for the other years.

Retired, but just an observation/suggestion.
Kindly move on. Either way, the majority has spoken and you are stuck with the outcome. It's counter productive to your health to add unneeded stress to your already stressful job. Unfortunately, everyone is affected, good or bad, to some degree with this contact.
Again, kindly move on, continue to look out for each other and get home safely at the end of your tour.
It was an honor to spend four decades with some of the finest members in law enforcement in the nation.
I respect and wish you all the best of luck in the future.
May God bless and keep you safe.

Ol' vet retired.

Slippery slope....

10/17/2014 06:42:00 PM

Agreed.

History repeats itself again-anyone here remember this? "We'll be paying a little toward our health care. It's only $1.25 per check."

That contract started the decline of our medical benefits.

The morons and their retro addiction did it again.

now that its done will more coppers put in for 55 and out? the city gave us if contract passed (which it did hooray) another chance by 01dec14 to put in for next year how many smart coppers will leave? 109 were in 01oct14 how many more?

10/17/2014 05:13:00 PM

It's to the city's advantage to keep the 55 and out.

The city didn't give us anything.

If it passes...who ever voted yes ...you are a dumb Mfer

I voted yes. And that's MR. MFER to you sonny.

So now go back to your 1st watch beat car and bore your partner to death bitching on how the union screwed everyone. I'm happy with the contract. Going to arbitration would have not gotten us a better deal.

Oh, and BTW..... hope you ski. Those 1A and 1B furloughs tend to get cold.

I'm close to retirement so all is right with the world.

RIGHT---how will they determine who was denied--who is keeping/editing/providing that record--the XO???...it will be a lie like every other manpower, assignment or activity report produced for downtown...

"...Reduction in Reimbursement for Graduate Programs... on or after September 1, 2016, reimbursement will be 75% (currently 100%) for Grade “A” and 50% for Grade “B”... Scholarships/Discounts for Graduate Programs..."

Reminds me of the guys without kids in my unit who, when we were in Iraq and Afghanistan, gave up their scheduled leaves over Christmas so the guys with kids could take their places and see their families. God Bless them, and you.

This was a terrible turnout for grown up men and women, just a little over 7,000 voted. Then we have the balls to complain about everything, complain about the union, the bosses the jobs, the toilet paper used in the stations etc. This was the best that we could get. Grow up, do your job to the best of your ability or not do it, just back up each other and watch your back from the evil doers that lurk about.

I am a laborer for CDOT. I got a 2.7% raise in July. If my city vehicle is down, I sit inside and get paid. No walking. I take breaks, lunch, days off and vacation WHENEVER I please. All overtime jumps double time after 2 1/2 hours. All Sundays are double time. No one shoots at me. I never miss my kid's birthdays, plays or recitals. No CR numbers or civilian complaints. I'll make $82,000 even with my limited OT.
ENJOY YOUR CRAPPY CONTRACT.

P.S. How do you enjoy doing escort duty for gangbangers funerals?

This country was built on freedom from oppression. Wars have been fought and won/lost by courageous people. Movements by oppressed people have changed the course of history. They all had one thing in common. They fought with courage and tenacity and they had leadership with vision.

Divide and conquer was in effect. FOP leadership has no vision. They will always shove a contract down your throat and celebrate among themselfs as they go back to their easy, high paying jobs.
I will say it. You guys and girls are soft with no backbone to have accepted this contract as is. Chicken shit nu-bees and a disgrace to the American labor movement of your ancestors. No doubt you will vote for the bi-polar, height challenged millionaire that burns your money in goofy and stupid ways and takes it away in legal red light and speed cameras, phone taxes. Need I say more?

Glad it passed! Fair is better then BEN giving us the same, minus the 4% raise and no retro! So that was the logical choice for the 66% who voted YES.
The cops that voted NO can't wrap their head around that.
I sacrificed my 7B - 13B furloughs with 22 years on! Because the outcome of arbitration would of been an abomination!
I would of given up retro if they would of hired 2500 cops by end of 2016!

For all the money hungry rat bastards. Thanks. When ur picking furlos and after 15 years ur going back to 2a 4a. You can ask yourself how was the money you already spent? was if worth it? Fuck this job sucks. 5 to go and fuck this place.

Mr. 25 yrs here.

To the person who wrote this comment, go cry me a river.

So you won't get your summer furlough. Oh, boo hoo. You are probably one of those that go crying to the Commander with the "But I've got a family" speech.

Everything changes. Every contract that I've been a part of has had the same nay sayers much like yourself. Everyone that has gone to arbitration has had the same results.......we gained nothing and gave up more than had we ratified it.

No contract will satisfy everyone.
