Darn Stick Shift
- HOUSTON – Authorities say two teenagers attempting to carjack a vehicle in Houston were foiled by a stick shift.
The pair held the motorist at gunpoint last weekend and demanded that he tell them how to drive the vehicle. After the driver provided a few instructions, the teens ordered him out of the vehicle. He then called police.
A brief police chase ensued. Stefan Happ, an officer for the University of Texas at Houston, told KPRC-TV the teens "had issues operating the vehicle."
The pair opted to flee on foot and were later apprehended.
In Texas, they're lucky they didn't get shot.

DePaul is the 3rd largest Employer after the City of Chicago and the University of Chicago. Further, DePaul has some 100,000 alumni in the Chicago-land area..no wonder Rahm is growing DePaul with a basketball stadium. What price money.
It looks like the old technology is the best anti-theft device you can get: A stick shift trans.
Who knows how to drive one? What cars even come with one, even as an option? The auto trans have gotten so good. And the emissions certification issue, too.
Learned to drive in a VW Beetle. Ton of fun.
I got to drive some VERY nice vehicles during my career because nobody else knew how to drive a stick. I've never owned an automatic.
That may be true. Many Texans carry a car gun.
Push clutch down with left foot. Upper left is first gear. Release clutch slowly while adding pressure to gas pedal with right foot.

I've always heard that things are bigger in Texas,,,but a car gun? How the hell you going to strap that to your hip?

Learned on an old 67 Chevy Biscayne Dad kept for sentimental reasons, with the shifter on the column, as I recall...
Dad had several old cars and a pickup truck. Not really sure which of them was my first, but I had to learn to drive them all, so they could be shuttled back and forth. Only one of them was an automatic.
I was the only girl in the neighborhood who could drive a pickup with a stick and use a micrometer on a valve job. Thanks, Dad!
Oh yeah the Texans shoot first ask questions later good ole boy's love em.I would move there in a NY second if I didn't have family here.
And this is why I always buy manual transmissions. Plus, I have more fun driving.
Stick shift, never lets you down! Best deterrent
The Teacher
I learned on a 55 Ford 4 dr sedan. Three speed on the column, V8 engine. Pale green, many nice memories were made in that car in the forest preserves of Chicago and suburbs.
