Imitation is...

  • A south suburban man was killed and at least five other people were injured in a shooting at a house party in Calumet City early Sunday.

About 1:50 a.m., between 100 and 150 people were at the party in the basement of a home in the 600 block of Escanaba when a fight broke out and at least one person opened fire, Calumet City Police Chief Ed Gilmore said.

Dewayne Purnell, 19, was taken with gunshot wounds to Franciscan St. Margaret Health in Hammond, Ind., where he was pronounced dead at 2:37 a.m., according to the Lake County Coroner’s office.

At least five other people shot were taken to hospitals by ambulance from the scene, but as many as 11 people in all may have been shot, Gilmore said. Police were still tallying the number of victims who showed up with gunshot wounds at hospitals early Sunday.
Looks like Cal City wants to be just like the big city. Any Chicago addresses in the victim list?

Tempers and tensions are high. People need to tread lightly or incidents will happen.

Police spokesman said there were kids there from all over the city and suburbs, because it was an 'internet party', which sounded like what used to be called a 'rave'.
They figured at least two hundred kids, still had no idea how many had really been injured or shot.
Yeah, probably more than a few with city addresses, from that description.

Cal City was always a tough town. Sounds like it's getting a little tougher post CHA demolition.
