Wasting Time

  • Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy said Monday his office will review security at Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s home, following the recent mugging nearby of one of Emanuel’s children.

“We’re taking another look at it to see if there’s a way to improve it,” McCarthy said, addressing reporters at police headquarters.

But McCarthy, who was there to talk about end-of-year crime statistics, bristled at a reporter’s question about how his officers might have been better positioned at the mayor’s house.

McCarthy noted that the mayor’s son was not at his home at the time, but instead making a phone call nearby.

“The officers are sitting on the mayor’s house,” McCarthy said. “They are not sitting on the mayor’s neighborhood.”
McCarthy said he was frustrated that Zach Emanuel’s name had been made public.

“We don’t give out victim information, especially not a juvenile,” he said. “That information should not be out there."
Victim information? You mean....like when an Officer is a victim of a battery or some sort of attack and the media is in a race to see who can get his name first? Especially if the Officer shoots the OFFENDER. The officer is still a victim and gosh-darn-it-all, McCarthy says victim's names shouldn't be out there!

Of course, when you are an active participant (buyer) in a criminal enterprise (baggies of green vegetable matter) and you are non-cooperative to the point of wiping the phone history and text messages lest someone find out the story you gave is bullshit....well, is that really a "victim"?

What's the phrase? Move On Garry.

Bad tactical error, Garr. The mayor disappears for two weeks, the story quietly goes away. And life goes on.

But, no. McCameraHog needs to show he's a macho working copper and dammit, this case is being investigated!

Hey, Garr, you sound like an idiot claiming the detail was so focused on that HOUSE that they missed THAT EMANUEL KID stepping outside to talk on the phone a few feet away. (You know, that same kid they're supposed to be protecting, along with the other occupants of that house.)

The real bullshit meter test is this: Has anyone been summarily dumped from that detail, as of a few hours post-'incident'? If no, the whole story is b.s.

If something REALLY happened to that kid in front of that house, heads would have rolled by now.

This attack was a personal insult to Rahm and his Chicago Machine.

The middle class can get robbed and beaten, stores robbed by gangs of thieves, even the blacks on the Southside can kill each other in job lots. That's part of life in the greatest city in the midwest.

But. You do not attack the children of the New Democrat Elite!

Stepped out to "make a call?" Why did he have to step out? So his parents wouldn't hear? So he could pick up his bag of weed from the black dealers out of sight of the police detail and security cameras? All he had to do was scream and there would have been half of the police department there real quick like.

This isn't the fault of any police action or lack of action. Why did the kid wipe his phone? The police can still get the numbers called and backtrack them. Getting caught with pot is no big deal, ticket only. Almost a rite of passage for young people. As least the kid didn't go down to Ohio and Kedzie for a bag of heroin.

I bet the kid is a mean ballet dancer and can make a great roast beef sandwich though.

Not sure what really happened by Rahms house, but I can tell you the 19th district is a terrible place to work. The worst commander in it's history. You are correct. A lot of people retired out of 19, and a lot of people left altogether. The people who left got tired of the favoritism, and some of the supervisors there. The merger took a heavy toll on a lot of officers. Then envy, resentment, and bitterness set in. It's still a good district to work in compared to the south and west side district. Plenty of places to eat, and most of the people are nice to the police. Uptown still needs a tactical nuke, maximum yield. Stay safe brothers and sisters. Back one another up, and get home to your families at the end of the day.

Speaking from first hand knowledge I will correct you about a comment you made about McCarthy in which you were completely incorrect. My son was seriously injured on the job and both he and the family requested his name was not given out. McCarthy agreed to our request and he made sure the name was not given to the reporters and media at the hospital or at our residence.
Only after the offender was arrested a few days later did my sons name become public because the probable cause hearing is public record.
No, I am not McCarthy or one of his minions. I am a person who has first hand knowledge and am thankful for what he did for us.

Agreed. The merge and its aftermath are the reason why I left, along with a lot of others. Incompetent commander and XO, terrible lt (R.P.), whiny house mouse sgt (C.G.), a couple of other testicularly-challenged sgts., and petty, bitchy, total jag bag desk crew (L.M., M.R.). There were some great people there, including a couple of bosses, (J.H., L.D., J.P.), but for the most part, working there became unbearable. The best advice I can give is if you aren't happy there, then get out as soon as you can. I couldn't believe how nice it was when I got to my new district. No Clark St BS, no Cubs BS, no Cubs traffic, no gay pride parade and ensuing nonsense, no rahm's house, and no 019 Dist drama. I was talking to another person who left 019, and he said it best...."they took away our home and moved us". That district won't get better for at least a generation. It won't get better for at least two commanders and until all the people who were there at the merge are gone. I've been gone a while now, and I'm not bitter anymore , but I know I'll never have a place that will feel like home like old 019 did.
