Suicide by Police

Officer is okay - or as okay as you can be after getting stabbed twice through the vest:
  • A 25-year-old man who had been threatening suicide was shot and killed by police near his home after he attacked an officer with a knife Thursday night in the West Woodlawn neighborhood, police said.

The incident took place about 6:40 p.m. in the 400 block of East Marquette Road, according to a statement from Police News Affairs.

Grand Crossing District officers responded to a call of a man threatening suicide in that area and found Terrence Gilbert sitting on a porch, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Once police officers pulled up and exited their vehicle, Gilbert charged at a police officer with a knife, stabbing him twice in his vest, according to the audio of Chicago police Deputy Chief Berscott Ruiz’s statement at the scene.
There'll be someone wanting a protest over this making statements on social media shortly. In the meantime, good job Officers.

Offender should have been shot before he was able to stab an officer . Don't hesitate to protect yourself .

Why did he have to hurt more innocent people? His family will be upset enough because he killed himself. Now they have to deal with him hurting other people too.

The Tribune made a point to interview "witnesses" who DIDN'T see anything! Too funny! Ya know, because maybe this didn't really happen! THIS guy didn't see anything! Love it!

A little strange that all of a sudden, the media doesn't mention anything about the race of the wilding offenders. Race of offenders is SO important........except when it doesn't fit the narrative.

What a fucking joke.

Someone should find out why the shots fired by police call was not simulcast over City Wide 1. Some of these dispatchers are not following protocol and its going to get us hurt.

Why is there still a working day/non working day furlo in this day & age? Only the US military does something similar and counting non work days as vacation is unheard of in the private sector

Yes...but in the military vacation accrual is universal, not based on service time. The brand new private gets 30 days for a full year just like an old timer First Sergeant. Plus you might not have "off days" anyway, it depends on your work assignment. Plenty people are working 6-7 days in theater and time off might mean leaving early not a full day off. Then again I have had a 1 on 3 off schedule over the course of 17 days before. I'm just saying...

Why do't YOU find out, Mr. Chevrons.

After all, it IS your responsibility to ensure a whole bunch of things are done in the nurturing/supervision aspects of your job title. This might be one of those times, buddy-boy. Step up and show us what you're made of. Initiate an immediate investigation and get back to us all with your findings, Sergeanto.

Or you can just come on the blog and suggest someone else investigate an officer safety issue that you're directly aware of.

Is that "merit" I smell?

Hey Jesse says he wants to stop all the killing , quoted in the Fibune you know all about that poor honor student in Milwaukee that "Dontre was a loving and concerned individual who didn't deserve to die," Except for resisting arrest , hitting the officer with his baton and getting into a fist fistfight with the officer as well. Again I guess Jesse never heard of Englewood , maybe someone should escort him on over to like 69 th & Ashland around midnight or so , then he can help "Stop all the killing"

Wooooooo. Slow down there soldier and quit taking those roidz to try and make friends. Just because I asked a question about a contract......all of the sudden I voted for it? Quit the leap there. I, in fact, did not vote for this GARBAGE contract. Just forgot what year that particular idea took effect (esp since its in the new fop book) Way to jump to conclusions just like shitheads on the street, whom I'm sure u lament. Asshole!
