Nice Rescue Officers
- Two Chicago police officers rescued two men from a burning car after a head-on collision on the city's Southwest Side.
Chicago Police Officers Hector Fuentes and Peter Gurskis were on patrol in Chicago's Gage Park neighborhood around 1:20 a.m. Friday when they saw a Chevrolet Aveo swerve into the southbound lanes and crash head-on into a truck on South Kedzie Avenue near 57th Street.
The car burst into flames, trapping the two men inside. Officers Fuentes and Gurskis knew they were racing against time.
"You see it in the movies, like a car explodes. I've never seen a car explode on impact like that. It certainly did this time. It's just one of those things, you go into action," Officer Gurskis said.
"We saw the driver was pinned in. So my partner and I, we forced the door down as much as we could and we pulled the driver out," Officer Fuentes said.
Amazingly, both men in the car survived and the report doesn't mention any serious injuries to the officers either. Very well done Officers.

The escapee from Kankakee is in custody as of the last hour or so....Trib is saying CPD has charges also.
Finally some good press, great save officers, now take a week off with full pay that would be "change we could believe in!"
Thank God for those with a selfless attitude and a dedication to service. Society would be f####ed without you and everybody knows it. But too few of us say it.
Not A Cop
Chicago's Finest. Good going, guys.

Hmm. A fluke, or another Pinto? Remember when they recalled all those to put a shield between the transmission and the gas tank?
Congratulations to the officers. They bravely rescued those men from something terrible. Fire is an ugly way to die.
Nice goin Offices. You make us proud!!
If anyone here knows these two fine men, please buy them a beer and a big fat cigar for me. Man, I love reading stories like this. Godspeed the injured men in their recovery. And God bless SCC.

OT 60 sgts off new list soon. No merit.
With this and the arrest of Kankakee escapee Kamron Taylor, it just goes to show, CPD, you are the finest.
Wow! Great work officers.
I would humbly like to re-organize SCC's final two sentences to read...
Very well done officers. Amazingly, the media finally found the heart to cover some of the brave and positive actions of our members.
(We collectively salute you, our brothers, for a 'Job Well Done.')
Great job you guys make the department proud unlike the goof in 010 smashing a basketball net looking like a lunatic
Saw an interview with the father of one of the persons saved. His expression of thanks was a great reminder of why we do the job.

Look up Jeep Liberty also explosion on impact and jeeps repair a trailer hitch!
Good Job Officers, If we can only now ask all beat officers to make sure your vehicles are not blocking the street when C.F.D. responds to a fire scene. Leave the arterial and side streets open for C.F.D. apparatus placement! This is coordinated effort that requires precise placement of rigs in order to extinguish said fires. Do not leave your vehicles unattended on corners or on any side streets which block a means of egress for C.F.D. Park on Sidewalks or several streets over! The Beat cars inhibit the C.F.D. vehicles ability to coordinate their attack! We had a situation in 9 the other day!

He is my hero. He did what everyone wants to do, at least once in their life. Plus, he gave me a good laugh. Got a feeling there's a lot more to that story...
Now, back to the guys who saved the two from the burning car. Above and beyond, guys. VERY proud of all of you, not just the first two on scene.

It doesn't matter. We are expected to exhibit the highest behavior either while on or off duty. If you are a racist then I don't want you on our department.
Good job officers. I hope for good health for the two men who were injured in the auto accident.
Nice Job Officers here & in 004 with the escapee.Never know who you are chasing.

Those of you who work VRI please be careful in how you obtain your activity so you can work VRI. IAD is doing random checks of contact cards and seeing if they are legit. They are using video and GPS to see if you actually did the card or made it up. They are also checking arrest reports with people from multiple units on the same arrest to see if you actually were part of the arrest and not just had a friend put you on paper. These are considered rule 14 violations if the are not legit. Just fair warning.
Canine list IS out.
Good job, Pete. 98-10B proud.

McCarthy was on WGN radio, a Sgts class is starting in the next two weeks. He didn't comment on merit, but if you didn't interview already you're not getting it this time.

Actually my suburban department captured Taylor first...but he escaped a second time. Our close proximity to Chicago made the 004th District a reasonable place for him to retreat to. We intended to put it out on ISPERN but some things you just don't want to share with everyone. In short, we deserve some credit for this capture also.
Um....Pete was 98-11B. Forgot your class in your old age..?
I only wish I could have been on the scene to HELP the guy smashing the basketball net.
Nice going Pete, you are a gentleman.
Amazing! The U.S. Marshal Service with it's sophisticated tracking devices, NSA assisting with interception devices tracking cell phones, of family, friends and associates; and two Beat Cops, the core and tip of the spear that protects society, capture this animal. Now somebody needs to find out where he got the revolver he had in his possession. When he disarmed the guard he took a Glock, not a .32 cal. pistol."G"

I really hope he's KMA and this was his last 'official' act. Hate to see him crucified for it. (I'd pay him to destroy the one that just went in across the alley from me.)

Actually they are only checking a couple of people who have very low activity but just enough for VRI. They are going to suspend them from VRI for a few periods.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Please tell me this is a joke!!! If he escaped your custody then you get no credit! You're soft!! So, if you knew it was him...did you not recall the fleeing felon rule? Soft! And why would you not share the information of an escaped convicted killer loose for a second time?? This must be a joke or you're just super soft and super fucking dumb!
