Standoff Ends Peacefully
- A standoff on Chicago's Northwest Side ended Friday evening after nearly six hours.
The incident began when police say they received a call around 9:30 a.m. Friday reporting of an intruder/suspicious person inside a home in the 6300-block of Roscoe in the city's Portage Park neighborhood.
Police say officers responding to the scene made contact with a female occupant of the residence and while talking to her, a male occupant was heard inside, possibly needing medical attention. Officers attempting to gain access into the house were confronted by a man armed with a crossbow.
The Chicago Police SWAT unit responded and were able to convince the female occupant to exit the home.
The other occupant surrendered later. But in this era of second-guessing and attacking the police for decisions that they make in an instant, it deserves special note when calm professionalism carries the day, and too often isn't noted.

Yes, as an armed citizen of Chicago I thank the officers for not wasting the fool with the crossbow. (!! what is this, the Hunger Games??)
Dean Andrews... I saw you on the News....The reporter said "Thank you for the interview, Officer" I bet you are still burning up about that one...!
Good Job.
No one needed to charge into the home. Time and boredom work wonders when dealing with most of these situations. And none of the police involved were injured either.
Troubled times for the police and the citizens.
That Dean Andrews sure has changed. He was a pretty decent guy when he was taking in my dry cleaning over at Andrews Cleaners on Diversey. He would launder my uniform shirts too, police discount, of course.
Now he has that bosses snoot in the air arrogance about him.
I see him around a police station he doesn't even glance at people he used to know or say hello. Not for 15 years at least. But he can clean the Daley family ball sack pretty good.
I'm glad the officers didn't have apples on their heads while confronting William Tell.
Now, kees me you fool!!!!
Very well said scc. Nice to see a peaceful conclusion to what could have become a very dangerous and violent
situsation.. Well done.
An arrow from a crossbow can go thru some body armor. Nothing to be trifled with.
I loved the broad screaming in the background on the News, when that clouted and bald Greek was trying to give a formal CPD statement. Classic!
You're full of shit, Andrews. Stand still and put this apple in your mouth.
Why didn't the first officers on scene shoot the offender that pointed a crossbow at them? End of story. It would have been a good shoot. I just don't understand.

hes drawing big paycheck forgot where he came from,as the litany of gold star "pension grabbers" always do! How many gold stars do we have? What percentage of them to do we need? 1%?
Andrews is still upset he was dumped from the D unit. He should have been dumped years ago when he was commander of area five but instead of dumping incompetent baggage they promoted him. Another great move by Daley. Now he is the Daley family bitch just ask Mrs. Koschman.
