How Safe is Chicago?
- An ambulance carrying a patient was one of two vehicles damaged when a person opened fire Thursday on the Dan Ryan Expressway, according to Illinois State Police.
The Superior ambulance and a car were struck by gunfire about 3:15 p.m. when they were traveling north on Interstate 94 near 31st Street, a state police sergeant said.
The ambulance was occupied by at least one employee and a passenger in the rear, while the car had two occupants.
This is becoming a near-weekly occurrence, but hey, Crime is Down. Let's see if the State counts this as Criminal Damage to Property, because you know "On the Highway" = "Not in Chicago" per CompStat!

Great, nothing like being shot at as I come into the city for sports and entertainment.
this city is run by clueless nitwits...
one small victory was how this police force reclaimed its lakefront and has mostly made it reliably safe for park patrons and families.
I remember when many of the parks and beaches along the lake were gang hangouts.
Most times, lakefront district officers are encouraged to keep up a presence along the lake in between assigned jobs.
But, seeing as how everything is now backward these days, sergeants in some districts are shagging... the squads that "park too long" along the lake.
Why? Because they are afraid of phantom anonymous "complaints" and don't seem to know what is a real beef. Versus the easiest explanation when asked about why cars are at the lake, deterrence in their downtime in the one place you don't want to lose to the thugs and troublemakers.

Compstate says it's safe, but things like this keep happening. And the homicide list is still in the stratosphere. Lets hope the tourists and business leaders don't find out.

I remember a debate we had as a kid in 7th or 8th grade in the mid-60's about an article envisioning future cities. One item was that rich safe areas would be connected past dangerous poor areas by "sanitized corridors". Some thought that absurd. I said, "What do you think an expressway is?"

One would think with all the money spent on PODs, the shooter could be identified. It's certianly not a certianty of that, but a lot of PODs are broken or incapable of the proper lens to make identification.

Very many headstones removed over large area, replaced with wooden survey stakes with yellow paint on top.
Grave markers one of your best clues of what's where; no one moves that kind of ferocious dead-weight of stone (12" x 18" x 4" granite about all one guy can handle, imagine the bigger ones) -- have to be careful, not break, keep in order for replacement, etc -- unless those markers are in the way of something bigger that needs to be done.
Maybe they're going to start looking for things underneath what's documented? Understand one was found already, when this got started -- "unidentified black female w/one GSW to head," underneath someone else's burial vault.
Could get excessively interesting. This mess may just be getting started. Stay tuned.

I forgot to mention -- the stakes are apparently not placed to mark the location of a removed grave marker, they are placed in uniform relationship to each other. They've laid out a grid.

I'm sure they can be motivated to conduct themselves as respectful law abiding citizens or move out. Help with the motivation. It is not defamation for your beat's CAPS meeting to hand out fliers identifying the names, photos, and addresses of recent parolees. (It's public record). Maybe you can make the flier for them, with copies to pass out. Enough for those in attendance to take home to their neighbors. Under the microscope is a very hard place to conduct shenanigans. Most bacteria behave or move to a new Petri dish. Mission accomplished. Don't be a pussy. Let them know who runs this.

Not sure is this is the family but, the house on dowagiac and central, nw corner is owned by a gypsy burglar family. The mom who stays there was an assistant principal who got caught stealing cash from the school and did time. The ex husband is an old school burglar from 19. The son and daughter are also both convicted felons for various scams too. Not a lot of activity there if that the house you're talking about. If it's not, do tell..do tell.
