Disband the Police!
- Wellston, Missouri no longer has a police department to call their own. The city of 2,300 watched as all 23 of their police officers were forced to turn in their badges earlier this week, after their police department was disbanded, thanks to a city council vote. While the move caught quite a few residents by surprise, those that were plugged into the tensions between the city council and the police department may have seen the writing on the wall.
As LEO Affairs reported earlier this year, tensions between a certain city councilwoman and the police department had been heating up for quite some time. Late in 2013, Wellston police officers raided the home of Terrance Dixon after getting a tip that he was selling crack cocaine and heroin out of the house. Terrance Dixon happens to be the son of city councilwoman Janet Dixon, and according to sources, Councilwoman Dixon did not take kindly to the raid. A short time after the raid, three officers, including the one that captured Dixon on tape confessing to selling drugs out of his house, were fired by the city council.
We've had plenty of batshit crazy aldercreatures who'd love to give this a try, and a mayor who'd probably sign off on it.

HOLY SHIT!!! Twenty-three coppers for a town of 2,300?!?!!? I realize that most of those were probably part-timers, but still? My town is 2,100 and we only have 6, half of those part-time. Sheesh.

It appears that this little village has done what a lot of other smaller cities have done and contracted out their police work to save money. I wonder why that important fact was left out of the cited article? It is not like there is no police coverage of the village, it is just being handled by another department now.
From reading some other reports, it looks like Wellston is so far in the hole it may not even be able to pay its own attorney.
This is how an aristocracy behaves. They believe they (family and friends included) are above and beyond the very same laws and regulations that they legislate and implement. Son of a city council member is charged with illegal narcotics trading, so now the entire police force is disbanded because they refused to look the other way. The same reason emanuel and his ilk are chauffeured around like the queen of England, exempt from paying all the red light camera/speeding camera violations he incurs. Meanwhile, the working taxpayers are made to pay for their tickets. These self anointed elites better pray history doesn't repeat itself because if they keep this bs up, we will see another French Revolution here in the good ole USA!

according to a story I read, policing duties were contracted to another department that is probably going to hire 8 to 10 of the existing officers.

I think a lot of people have more of an idea than they let on. I find it hard to believe they would seriously blame "politicians" and "the British aristocracy" for the problems in front of their eyes.
Look at these stats for a town of 2300. Look at the national crime norm compared to this town.

No. Not all at once, but that can chip away like they do with teachers! Stand together all the time even on simple issues or you will fall as individuals. Keep voting to get a minimal check after taxes to ratify a bullshit union contract that hurts others and the department and you will have no one to fight for you when they come for you. This "get mine" attitude needs to stop. Show up at the meetings and stand up. Don't just bitch on a blog. This place is a forum, but does not effect policy!!!
Figure it out quick or it will be figured out for you.

Hire retired police officers as secretary for commander , station security , crossing guard supervisor etc
all the above are a 5 hour work day with two 15 minute breaks
none of the above swipe in and out , political assignment
