FOP Finally Updates Members

Check out their website. For the first time, answers to questions that have been asked and ignored for weeks, even months here and elsewhere.

And they're scheduling Informational Meetings to stave off a massive wave of irate members at the next General Meeting.

If they only had some way of connecting with the members on a daily basis. Something in real time. Something that the Officers could pull up in the comfort of their homes at their convenience, any hour of the day or night.

There is no question that Second City Cop has done more for Chicago police officers then the worthless FOP. The best thing that ever happened was shining sunlight into what the department was doing to both its officers and the citizens of the city of Chicago. It all begins and ends with exposing corruption in conflict of interest .

off topic but important. Why is it that although the link explaining the process of being nominated for merit sergeant says that deadline for paperwork is June 12th, some district commander made up a deadline to submit resumes of june 3rd?

According to several officers, one district in particular (019) failed to share this deadline information until roll call Tuesday night. This gave officers a 12 hour overnight window to submit it. And still many other officers didn't know about the deadline.

Are there any shenanigans or cover up of information going on in 019, if so I encourage you to file a complain or at least report it to the union. This is very unfair especially since the Merit process is already questionable. Nepotism and favoritism is alive and well with the end result being that hardworking honest coppers with no pull cannot get a fair shake.

Too bad many of us cannot be as fortunate as Dean Jr whose rumored to be in the next sgts class in the fall.

-------------------------------------------------
Who the F%$K are you to ask them why they have so much hate?

First of all, I would say, "It's not hate, it's disgust!"

I'm not even a cop and I am disgusted with the way their supposed union sold them out. This transcends union issues. This transcends the CPD and FOP

This is a lack of leadership - and courage - to stand up and ask for what is right.

If I was in a union, I would expect that in exchange for my dues, I would have a solid voice at the table of negotiations. A BOOMING voice who'd say, "Give us something fair - and we will bust our ass for you!"

I don't see that.

What I see is some hush-hush, behind-the-scenes, talk - cutting a deal for some cush positions or a future director position in another agency and maybe promotion for a relative or two.

That's not leadership - that's cowardice. Selling out for a scrap off the table. (The "Well, I got mine at least." mentality)

"We'll play go along to get along. Great for me. As for the rank-and-file? Sorry boys and girls, maybe next time."

If you don't see that as disgusting action for ANY leader, then you are galactically clueless.

I just want to thank Commander Maria Pena of the 25th district for destroying the work environment in the 25th district. Only five people can take time off and that is it. At the same time you keep harping about contact cards. Why do you like to fuck with people for no good reason? It's one thing to go after medical abusers, the dogs, etc. But why on earth do you mess with people for no good reason? We are productive, we do as we are told, we bring in your precious contact cards. Yet none of it is good enough. When I left the house yesterday for work even my wife asked me "is everything ok? Is everything ok at work?". Please stop treating us like we are a high school basketball team Commander Pena.

I am not working 30 years to have somebody take my pension away or be told that I am going to have a pension 25% over the poverty level. When I joined, I was promised FAIR promotional opportunity, PAID medical for my career AND retirement and all I had to do was obey the rules and live in this shithole city. I agreed to that. And what happened. Sorry kid, pay for your medical. Fair promotions?? Hah, you were dumb enough to believe that shit/ Now you are going to tell me that I may get a pension at some point that is 25% over the poverty level?? FUCK YOU!! Good deal or Who's side bread was buttered?
• If retired before Jan 2016..." guaranteed an annuity that's 25% over Fed poverty level?"
Good for retirees that been collecting since 1975, but what about some retired in 2015?
(The Fed poverty level for 2 persons is $15,900) What's your 2015 annuity now, do the math and see your guarantee.
• A whopping 68¢ to 79¢ on the dollar mandated for 5 yrs. is the City contribution.
What ever happened to the Pension Bd. Actuaries recommendation of a 2.5:1 contribution to meet the funding shortfall and bring the pension to a solid level, (which the actuary been the advising since, oh, 1985 or so) ?
• The Comptroller get to withhold State Grant Fund to the City if the payments aren't made, that's $100-130 million.
What would Rahm want to pay out, $130 mil or $592 mil (in 2016). There's no penalty if Rahm doesn't pay up, (it's like foregoing ObamaCare and paying a measly IRS fine). Big loophole for the City, I think.
• Finally, "the experts calculated...the Pension fund will be exhausted in 9-10 yrs". I'll repeat, Pension Bd. actuaries predicted this in the 1980's and the City failed to fund the pension to meet future obligations. That didn't stop Vanecko from tapping some of the Fund for his benefit.

I don't blame the FOP... It's the Politicians and their liberal view to share the wealth. Not one blame on the Daleys or the Madigans either..

So, pension can only be changed by legislation, well here is the lesgilation. When you control the legislature, you can make the changes you want. Yeah, no changes to the rank and file, but changes to what the city is required to do and we know how reliable the city is. The city just showed us how reliable they are by having the legislation changed. Exclusive designated source of funding,(casino revenue), will never produce income. Chicago will have the only casino in the world that will not generate positive income, thus no funding. Don't forget, when you hold all the cards you make the rules. Oh, the board can go to court to sue the city, not when you appoint the majority on the board. And don't forget that little section the fop left out about how the city can pay its bond holders first. The city may never have to put in another penny, jeez, we have to pay off all these bond holders first.

Why do you have some [so] much hate?
6/05/2015 04:21:00 AM

Dear Friend:
I will answer that one for you, although I am sure SCC could do a much better job.

The Second City Cop "blog" is NOT about HATE. But it IS about EXPOSING CORRUPTION for all to see. The intention and act of exposing corruption comes from something called RIGHTEOUS INDIGNATION. It is a Noble Feeling that COMES FROM THE SOUL.

Righteous Indignation, by the way, is not "self-righteousness," the latter being a sin.

The United States of America was founded in 1776 by noble, brave, intelligent, and God-Inspired men who felt Righteous Indignation over the excessive tyranny and corruption coming from the British Government. They did not "hate" the British Gov't. They just wanted their freedom.

The operators of Second City Cop do not preach "hate." They are INDIGNANT, and are doing their best to expose the corruption that affects the lives of police officers and their families. Corruption that comes from City Hall, and at the FOP.

My question for you, dear friend, is "why do you not have a spine?" If everyone had your attitude, we would all be speaking with a British accent, and be slaves of the King or Queen of England.

Never trust a word that comes out of a politician's mouth! Remember most of them are also lawyers and they control the judges who are lawyers. It's one big club. It doesn't matter what the supreme court said they will still do what they want. What will happen if they don't? Who will hold them accountable? If their pensions were being attacked we would be treated fairly, but they will only take care of each other. They caused the problem but will never fix it by doing the right thing. They still take our pension $$$ every two weeks and we have no say in how it's invested. It's a shame we even have to think about our pension. We signed a contract upon employment agreeing to allow the city to take "X' amount of money out of our checks in return for "X" amount of money after certain years of service. We still abide by that contract.

I would caution anyone considering being a first responder to think again. The politicians of Chicago and Illinois clearly don't feel our job is important. And anything they offer you should be questioned. SAD!

6/05/2015 04:21:00 AM

If you were a real Chicago Cop, you'd
already know and understand the
real reasons why we harbor hatred
and anger.

You would also know and understand
why the powers that be so deeply
desire to to keep the public from
coming anywhere near even a
nodding acquaintance, let alone
a clear-eyed understanding of
those things that lead Policemen
to develop those intense feelings.

Especially those Policemen who
have patrolled those seething west and south side
shit-pits of wanton violence, willful ignorance, despair,
out loud racial and victimology based animus, wholesale
abdication of accountability and wholesale rejection of any notion
of a contract with the rest of society.

It's the new normal and an accepted cultural convention now.
The awake and aware call it "Pathology."

But at ground level? It's the rest of everybody else who are crazy.
Pity the few decent inhabitants trapped in these places.

The denizens of these areas have their hands up...
As in they expect The Police to be unwilling occupants
in the vehicle of THEIR destiny while they have the
accelerator pressed to the floorboards.

Their hands aren't on the damned wheel because they're
busily fighting with their compelled to give a damn Police
passengers trying to avoid a crash while loudly denouncing
their attempts to take the wheel.

You know...
Since the rest of everybody else not in the damned vehicle
has the liberty to watch from a safe distance.

"Look at those bad Cops fighting those poor minority
type people (and folks) for no good reason."

Society wants ANYBODY other than The Police to take the wheel.
The Police, being consigned to the role of unwilling passengers,
are denounced and vilified for trying to take the wheel since it is
so unacceptable that they kick the ignorant asshole
out of the moving vehicle and do society the big solid by steering it
away from the gathered crowd.

The crowd, seeing all of the above, will blame, shame and vilify
You-Know-Who...

Oh wait...
Since it's the Cops, they're expect to endure the crash
and gently control and remove the fool behind the wheel
because they swore an oath and they have compelling
rules and regulations to abide by.

Policemen are OPENLY picking and choosing what's
worth their time, effort and sacrifice and society knowing
knowing damn well (but is pretending not to know)
is starting to make noises about Police "denial of full
services" even though the current bland, flavorless,
non-exciting, self preservationist, strictly by the numbers
Policing IS the de facto law of the land now...

Enjoy.

Hope this points you and perhaps others
to the answer you're seeking.

Dude, wtf? You are going around recording people without their consent. That is certainly against the law. You worry too much. Just do your job and if someone needs to go to the hospital then make your notification. That is all. Perhaps have a witness with you. But don't go around recording people's conversation on your smart phone. You will get jammed up.

You cover your ass by calling for medical attention. The prisoner did not ask the WC for help, he asked you. You are responsible. You will be sued. And you will lose. Call an ambulance, then tell the WC.

We can hire good contract attorneys and keep reputable defense attorneys on retainer with the amount of money we pour into this useless, corrupted, and bureaucratic organization which continues to walk us backward with every contract. I know I'm not the only one who is fed up with this bs and I'd really like to do something about it. Anyone else?

When forced they'll comply. 3am membership gatherings at Angelos house need to become the norm.

6/05/2015 02:26:00 PM

+1

Be sure to call such gathering something non-threatening...

"Membership Well-Being Check"
"Show of Care and Concern"

You see... Doctuh Angelo's decision-making appears to be
deeply flawed and boundlessly treacherous to the FOP
Membership because we might not be "leaning in" close
enough to him to ensure that he recognizes that in his
elected office, his interests lie in rendering full and true
service to "The Membership," not in currying present
favors for future rewards for him and his fully adult
Police child.

You wanna curry political favors?
Go ring doorbells, buy tickets,
pay a bribe and/or suck political dick
ON YOUR OWN TIME as Mr./Ofc./Dr. Dean Angelo Sr.

You're handsomely over-comped to deliver for FOP, not
to deliver FOP carved up on a platter.

You do the suspect things you do because you were NEVER a true
Policeman at heart. Your ducking/dodging/hiding for years on
a questionable disability is a true bill of your character.

It's not like you were shot, blown-up in an on duty crash or you
had to swim in the flesh eating humanoid "lava" cascading down the stairs
in the projects like some of us.

You couldn't hack it on the streets so you played an ace and hid
like a typical clout-tard and went into your hidey-hole so you
could do YOU without the inconveniences that the rest of us
endured.

Good money might say we clocked you to the nth second...

What were you promised, Dean?
You'd better hope the future sleepless
nights are well worth the betrayal of
the membership.

Graciously step aside for the good and honorable
men and women who deserve far better than you
and your backers have given.

Your minimal transgression against the membership
is incompetence.

At worst, you're a craven collaborator.

Dean is a politician working against our interests.

Note how he and the rest of the "executives" at FOP
busily do a lot of nothing.

It's theater with the curtains about a foot from the stage floor...

You hear a lot of loud voices, you see a lot of shoes scurrying around.
Considering the "players," it wouldn't be a surprise if some of
said shoes were on the wrong feet or other such.

Sometimes you hear a slap, a yelp of pain, see an ass hit
the floor and some heels quickly being dragged away...
A muffled loud report off-stage might add to the "creative tension."

O_o? o_o? o_O?
"WTF is this we're watching?"

Another FOP Shit-Show.

1. Lock Up Keeper Needs Advice

I am a lockup keeper in a very busy district. Sometimes the arrestees in the lockup request us that they need medical attention. I do what I am supposed to do. I go the w.c. and tell him that this person needs medical attention. The w.c. usually won't do anything. The w.c. just ignores the request for medical attention. My question is this- how do I cover my ass? In order to cover myself, I take my smart phone and record a short interview with the arrestee and I even record the conversation with the w.c. without his notice. Is that sufficient enough? Am I breaking any laws by recording my w.c. without his verbal or written notice? I don't want to end up like the officers in Baltimore. I need this job since I am the only one working in my household and I need to support my family plus my inlaws.

Yes, you are breaking the law by recording your W/C without his knowledge. It is also prohibited through department general orders. You can get fired!!! The proper way to cover your ass is to log it in the log book!!

Look troll you're full of crap. You do not work for cpd nor are you a lock up keeper. No WC or officer in this city would deny a prisoner medical attention. It is not a practice to deny anyone medical attention so take your bs story and camera and pound sand. There is no story here.

I am a p.o. and in my district the bosses hate sending arrestees to the hospital unless they really have to. They send like 60% of them but the other 40% they say the arrestee is playing games and so they deny them a visit to the hospital. Baltimore changed every thing. Do every single fucking thing by the book. If you don't then you are endangering your freedom and job. I surely won't be able to replace my current income. I don't think it is right that you record the w.c. with your smartphone on with some sort of recording app running. That is not ethical. Don't try to jam up your coworkers.

You got that right!!!! Been saying this for three years. I will never pay dues again. While you are on this subject, pull up real estate records and see who owns the FOP building and how many refi's on it. Audit in ORDER!!!

Now if the Scumtimes wants to investigate a story sink your teeth into this one. Research records from 1995 and who holds the mortgage and the connection to the then FOP President..Follow the money trail.

FOP puts out one sheet of this bill, and well well well, that bill is quite long and has much more than what the FOP is putting out. Whats about the retirement age being changed to 55, cola being changed for a few, and the pension contribution being raised ? Take it to the bank.

Remember when FLOP had a Hotline phone # which WAS updated? I think it was when Dineen was President. I'f the website has problems then let Deano record a message ( it might be hard for him to lie on the tape !!)

I'm retired & ready to make this my last dues paying year if FLOP doesn't get on target with the website & coverage of the pension issue.

Hey Deano, why does Senate President Cullerton say you approve of his latest fix? IF HE'S LYING THEN CALL HIM ON IT!! The media will cover that allegation....
