Now He Wants More Cops

First he sits by silently while 019 and 023 are combined. Then they lose over 100 coppers after numerous promises that not a single officer would be lost. Now as crime spirals and actual taxpayers and tourists are murdered, he wants more cops:
  • Following the Saturday slaying of 25-year-old Kevin O'Malley in Lakeview, Ald. Tom Tunney is asking Chicago's top cop for more officers in the neighborhood.

O'Malley, who was from suburban Palos Park but living in Lakeview, was fatally shot under the Brown Line L tracks in the 900 block of West Oakdale Avenue after a robbery attempt over a cell phone turned violent, police said. Kristopher Pitts, 22, of Humboldt Park, is being held without bond on charges of first-degree murder and armed robbery in the case.

Tunney has spoken with Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy about "how imperative it is that we receive more police manpower in the 19th district," said Tunney spokeswoman Erin Duffy.
You had them Aldercreature. You had over 400 if we recall. Now, you have under 300 patrolling what is essentially two complete districts which include the densest concentration of bars in the city, a major league ballpark, theaters, festivals, businesses, etc. Oh yeah, and an El train line that delivers the worst of the worst directly to all of those taxpayers and businesses front doors.

Congratulations. If you had paid attention when we predicted this years ago, you might have a leg to stand on.

I get that the goofs blogging at that site you cite, have their heads up their ass, but SCC, you know how the city works. We all know that no district in the city has enough to cops assigned to it because there aren't enough of us. Plain and simple.

If there is one alderman who consistently backs us it's Tunney, but for some reason, you have consistently gone after him. I really don't get it. I commented three times on another post critical of him this week pointing out how he's shown his support and not one was posted. Will this one sneak through?

-- long before becoming an alderman, he personally delivered and served a buffet dinner to the family, friends and officers standing vigil at Cook County Hospital awaiting word on Off. Mike Ceriale. He has supported the Ceriale Foundation in its fundraising and cutting through city red tape as needed.

-- asked tough questions at city council hearings re: staffing and long-term funding of our pension. What other alderman has ever asked for the number of uniform allowance checks cut or officers contributing to the pension as a way to get to truthful staffing numbers?

-- gave Officer Cozzi a job when he got out of prison knowing that it might not go over well with City Hall, but he wanted to help.

Yes, I know him, because I've been in 019 for many years. I doubt the people criticizing him do.

What is the city doing about the roaming thugs from the south and west sides who come into Lincoln Park and Lakeview to rob people. It's getting worse and worse.

Do people who live in these neighborhoods not pay high taxes for police services?

Why are there more cops in the non tax paying ghetto areas?

Why is this not headline news?

Tunney, Schiller, like Daley and now Rahm are accountable to nobody. The ugly "Reality" is that once these people are elected, they retain that power until the next election and by then the voters forget why these pols failed to deliver.Nobody but the parents and friends of that dead kid, who was somebody's brother, son, friend; nobody will give a shit, others will read the story and forget him. Remember, it has been close to ten years ago when a young man moved to Chicago for work, murdered on Damen by the Brown Line stop; still unsolved. We have no impeachment process, these politicians can do as they please! They continue to trot out the old Kansas City Study which implies: "Greater police presence does not correspond to a reduction in crime." And the irony is, that we may have reached that point, because the new Police Model is to do as little as possible, so as to not incite a riot, or hurt anyone's feelings! The City of Chicago is rapidly approaching the point where it is no longer a desirable place to live or work. And when the new taxes are imposed, it will also not be affordable. Too bad Loevy & Loevy cannot sue the elected officials for punitive damages when something like this happens. "G"

Blood is on the Judges, Tunney & the mayors hands. People have been complaining for years. It's evident these politicians don't care. What they care about are their pensions , demonizing the police and giving the catered to constituency the room to destroy.

The only thing that is going to turn the tide in that community (and others) IS the community and CCW.

Don't listen to a fucking thing Tunney or the mayor says. Watch what they do (and don't do)

there are 3 wards in 22 , the 19 , 21 , and 34 . Why are the alderman silent on providing better police patrol to the citizens they represent .
look at crime in 22 way up , most of the thefts are reported on telephone , beat coppers don't have a clue . get the caps officers out of the office , on patrol in a beat car .

Tom Tunney a pro police guy???? My ASS!!!!!!!!!!!! I worked in 019 for 10 years he is nothing but an arrogant you know what. He is the definition of who you know and blow. This is the alderman who got a police officer moved out of the old 023 because he was making to many PCS arrests on gays. That is a fact that cannot be disputed. He tried to get him fired but the officer also happened to be gay so it went the way of the dodo.

The problem with 019 is it needs a whole bunch more officers on 1st watch and alot less on 3rd watch. That has been the problem for over 20 years.

I'm actually kind of disturbed about the comments about "that other blog" - they're generally supportive of the 019 officers and want to help. I mean, have you actually read it? Instead of "fuck you libs!" or "they get who they voted for", the realization is "oh shit - my local elected official isn't doing what I voted them for - what else can I do to get my neighborhood safer?" 019 CAPS turnout is very impressive. Either way, I'm really disappointed in some commenters on here.

As for Tunney - he's average when it comes to Aldermen. You know that once they get elected then you can never get rid of them. They're the political version of herpes. And the goal of all aldermen is to get reelected, so they'll "work on it" as a way of getting you off their back and then eventually jump up and down and call it progress.

Combining Districts in this instance was a clear failure. Leadership was lacking, Sgts were pretty bad east of Clark. We were walking into an ambush by our Own Bros & Sisters.
All the BS starting w/a midnight W/S that ran the watch. Her little female version of Tattoo from "Fantasy Island" had less than her 1st step raise, but worked the desk per Bald Bull using the Old Wagon Guy's Seniority while the wagon guy stayed on the wagon.
The Belmont "West" Crew was just a better more aggressive Unit(019)than 023. They were afraid to help, engage, answer, if they're bodies didn't inform them involuntarily to take a shit they may not even know.
019 was a place when I got on U needed 10 years just to get lucky. Now a kid just off probation can get in there. In 2014 how many did 019 officially ask for? I stopped counting around this time last year and they were over 30 or 40 by then. The bleeding continued.

So damned funny when the people who live in the
affected areas fancy themselves to be so politically
savvy and so situationally aware, realized that they've been utterly
PANTSED by a North Shore Shit-Ass performing arts (dance) undergrad
with a master's in (Intentionally Misleading) Communications from NU...

We, the unwashed, roughnecked rabble of "mean and unfriendly
politically and culturally conservative, undereducated and likely harboring
racist/misanthropist views" (remember sarcasm and silliness kids! ;^) Cops
were sounding the alarm about the plan to consolidate districts in order
facilitate the theft of Police presence from those high tax paying areas
In question.

You see...
Any REAL Chicago PATROLMAN has learned to apply the "Wild Kingdom" concept
to how he approaches and understands the job.

Chicago violent criminals aren't unlike savage animals.

Every animal eats.
Every animal seeks a secure place to sleep.
Every animal seeks a somewhat secure corner to shit in.
Every animal endeavors to make as many little animals as possible.
Every animal WILL migrate to places where they can HUNT
unimpeded and with little to no consequence.

Selfsame animals avoid areas where potential prey is known to
fight back with serious to fatal consequences for the animal.

Genuflect on these...
There are some complimentary issues that need addressing.

Let's cut the bullshit shall we?

We have absolutely no love for the Alinskite Progressives
whose white liberal guilty conscience/protected demographic criminal behavior
excusal has been a primary contribution to the social squishiness that has only
empowered the likes of Rahm Emanuel, that name changed freak mayor of
NYC who's ashamed of his father's military service andthe two lost little girls
Who destroyed Baltimore by directly ordering a Police Stand-Down
In the face of riots and then sicced the FEDS on their Police when
shit got too hot and too messy and reporters began asking too hard
and too pointy questions.

You people in the affected areas overwhelmingly voted for
Rahm. Twice... Therefore, you allowed him to figure he could
steal half of your Police compliment and give it to the rev'runs
and activists.

Only to have their flocks migrate from their now over-Policed
breeding grounds to where YOU and yours lay down at night
for a peaceful sleep.

You're Welcome...

We already know that most of our problems, robberies, batteries, gang activity etc etc occur after midnight but most of the personal is gone by midnight. Unlike many other districts in the city that have 3 tactical teams , 019 has 4 tactical teams. No tactical teams should work days until we can put a dent into the issues we are having at night! Each team has 10 guys. So everyday we should have 10 guys 6 in plain clothes and 4 in covert capacity and in covert vehicles driving around monitoring the areas for large groups of flash mobs and robbers in the area. The places where most robberies occur are in a 8 block radius. Most tactical teams are gone by midnight though . One team should start 8 pm and work until 5 am, and on the weekends start at 9pm and go all the way until 6am. As we see on the weekends crime occurs much later! There are days when multiple teams are there because the overlap. On those days you would have 20 guys and two sgts. Once the offenders get the message that these teams are not messing around and have zero tolerance for any type of crime. example obstruction of traffic, flash mobs, loitering, gangactivity, noise disturbances, prostitution etc etc crime will slowly start to diminish. But until then forget about it! The beat cars are too busy running around handling jobs, transports, hospital runs traffic crashes , domestics etc etc to be effective especially on the weekends. The 4 tactical teams need to step up there game or nothing will ever get accomplished!

You no longer have a summer mobile unit that would patrol the entire lakefront. You no longer have Special Operations Section or the Tactical response unit that would flood a district with proactive police officers. You no longer have a Mass Transit Undercover Detail or a Mass Transit Special Employment force that would be on or near these stops and platforms. We used to have 13,500 Police Officers and now we're down thousands. In addition, instead of having 300-400 officers in both the 19th and 23rd Districts respectively they completely bull shitted you citizens who reside in those neighborhoods by closing a station and combining the officers. What they managed to do was eliminate an entire district of supervision Sgt. Lt. Etc., a tact team, and three watches of police officers. If I lived in that neighborhood I would want someone's head on a spear. You are footing the bill as you always have. So if your taxes, fees, licenses, and fines have not changed, and have probably gone up, where is the money you have been spending for decades to man a 13,500 person police department?

You have any idea how many extra tact teams there are in the districts?? Department order states each district will have only 3 yet you have some districts that have 5 & 6, that's where your extra POs are, if you look at the numbers each district would get an extra 22-25 POs.

Ironic that you'll be stabbed, robbed, or killed walking in front of his restaurant on belmont after midnight. But he don't give a crap, because he has his giant savings account, ridiculous pension fund for his part time job, and gets elected by the gays constitutents he takes for granted. Shame on him and the sheep who vote for this moron.

Things on my to do list:

1). Get my CCL
2). Get the f*uck outta this city

Lived here my whole life, and I hoped things would improve, but this city's politics have pushed me to the point that I'm taking my business and family out of this clouted cluster f*ck. As a civilian, I only see a hint of the bullshit that you ladies and gentlemen deal with on a daily basis. I sincerely thank you for your service. I respect and appreciate what you do, I sure as hell couldn't do it.

Living in the 19th, things are definitely not as bad as they could be - but it's gotten to the point where the visiting honor students, and their perceived right to do whatever the f*ck they want without any reverence for the law, have made living here a stupid decision on my part. The courts don't do sh*t, your hands are tied because if you try to enforce the law you're a racist, and the city gets sued.

The city's broke, there's not enough money for you guys, the school system sucks, yet we build parks in memory of a former political family member. If that's not enough, that lovely family continues to financially fu*k taxpayers to this day. Allegedly.

As for the copper who was filmed while napping, sh*t happens. Maybe he was taking a much needed zen moment -- the guy works in a war zone. How about some sensitivity for that? Where was the media when Shortshanks was in office? The Trib waited until he was out of office to write smack about him. Gee, that's helpful. Woulda been nice if the investigative reporting took place prior to endorsing him for another term. Where's the media if your alderman is spending a good deal of his time getting sh*t faced at a bar during work hours? Nowhere to be found. Evidently it's sexier to report sh*t about the police. Ironically, the police are the first ones any of us call when we need help. With that said, it's time to stop shi*ting on CPD. Thank you for allowing me to rant.

Folks, if you haven't learned by now that ALL of the politicians-media-and top brass aren't full of complete and total shit, then you deserve to spin through this "Dummy Bucket" over and over until you retire.

The ONLY way out of this mess is through your attendance at the union meetings.

At those meetings you need to drop your personal complaints and opinions, focus on what are the top priorities for ALL of you; pension security, civil liability protections, promotional transparency, media relations etc.

Until you all start to show up, and join together, this circus will continue to go on.

You better start soon, cause your pension is on its way out.

The problem with 019 is it needs a whole bunch more officers on 1st watch and alot less on 3rd watch. That has been the problem for over 20 years.

Are you fucking kidding? Each watch has EXACTLY the same amount of manpower plus 1st watch has the benefit of the Entertainment Team (5th Tact Team). 3rd watch can barely man all the beat cars 2-man and hasn't run a rapid response car in years yet days has ghost cars all over the place.

6/04/2015 02:31:00 PM

That will never happen since the ones in there are friends of the new commander from the past. The problem with the merge is still there officers from 019 are the outsiders 023 ran the district from day one and still does. All the watch secretaries are 023 who take care of their pets. 5 tact teams that arrest drinkers and pissers all day long and tie up the watch with their transports and hospital runs for nonsense numbers while the real crime runs rampant. Calls for service go unanswered for hours because of no manpower. To be fair all desk spots should have been void and the bidding redone. Eli destroyed the already broken district you couldnt get anything from him unless you were greek. Why do you think the 100 plus officers left. Commander if you have half a brain you should see whats going on start with the caps office and put in officers that deserve it not the ones that have been hiding in there forever. Try to get a contact number for an alarm or burglary the file at the desk is 20 yrs old send those do nothing caps officers along with their do nothing go home 3 hours early every day sgt. out to update it. very simple start at one end of a street and walk in the stores. Oh I forgot they do that only for shopping or begging for gifts for the golf outing. As for Tunney He has been nothing but good to the police always in the past sent over food for the holidays I think he was screwed by the fast talking mayor about the merge as we were. Note to our commander this is the beginning it has been going backwards now for the last 3 yrs step up clean house and put the beat and rapids back up

================================================================

It's all about Rahm's career, which hinges on his reputation within the liberal community. When the murder rate spikes, his stock falls, even if the carnage is contained to a few small areas and the city is much more functional and livable as a whole. Unfortunately for Chicagoans, his political ambitions hinge not on his overall performance as a mayor, but on a couple of simple metrics. I'm not the police, but I think you can appreciate how absurd focusing on one or two metrics without considering context can be.

So, what he does is logical, if you're maniacally narcissistic - he manipulates the two things that the national liberal community cares about, and to hell with the rest. The first is the murder rate, and the other is the city's financial situation. I think the reason why is because this is where liberal failure is most obvious, but that's just speculation.

So, he strips protection from the good neighborhoods to try and stanch the bleeding in the bad. He's knowingly trading armed robberies, beatings, and the occasional murder of law abiding citizens for the lives of gang bangers, and all to lower that murder stat and increase his chances of a presidential bid.

When it comes to the pensions, he is trying to screw thousands of first responders out of the retirement that was promised to them, and that they sacrificed for. In return, he gets to claim he fixed Chicago's finances and again, leverage that into potential career advancement. Of course, without changing the massively corrupt system we have nothing will actually be fixed, but see, he doesn't care.

And that's the real problem. If he were actually doing his level best to improve the city and address some of these problems, I would respect him even if I didn't agree. But he's not doing that, he's here to manipulate a couple of bullshit stats so the liberal media can make him sound like the second coming.

Kevin O'Malley, every LEO who will be stuck eating cat food in his retirement, all sacrifices laid on the altar of Rahm's narcissism. I think that the only funny thing about any of this is that that supremely unlikable little turd actually thinks he can be president!

You can't tell these fucking politicians what will happen in the future if you dilute police coverage. They are to stupid to understand the cause and effect of allowing criminals to run amonk without police presence. They are politicians and have no idea what a criminal is. Term limits is they only answer for these clueless bastards and that most definitely includes da mayor.

Why we continue to re-elect these clueless bastards is beyond my comprehension. Take away their police body guards and let them live in the real world. Then maybe they will get a clue. Who am I kidding. They will never get it. Let the wilding continue and pass the link cards.

From Tunney's newsletter today. He asked for VRI. Would much rather go there than Englewood. Looks like he knows he's not getting any more patrol officers, so trying to supplement in other ways. If Tiny Dancer turns this down, the Lakefront liberals might turn on him.

"I have spoken to Superintendent McCarthy's office about how imperative it is that we receive more police manpower in the 19th District. I have written a letter asking for a deployment operation like the CPD’s overtime violence-reduction initiative to be assigned to our community every weekend on the overnight shift to supplement our 19th District Officers. I have also asked to have a permanent Mass Transit Police Detail assigned to the Belmont CTA station every weekend from 10:00pm-5:00am for the safety of our residents and visitors. Additionally, our entertainment detail will also be assigned on Sheffield from Diversey to Belmont. My office continues to work with the Chicago Police Department and neighbors to do more to keep our community safe. I welcome your constructive ideas on how we can work together for a safer community."
