A Tale of Two Headlines

The Sun Times:
That's a good thing, right?
  • Chicago’s neighborhood public schools could suffer $60 million in cuts while charters and contract schools may gain $30 million, under school budgets released Monday.

Some of the largest cuts will be borne by neighborhood high schools on the city’s South and West sides.
As predicted, the "charter schools" will gain while the neighborhood schools bleed.

But then the Tribune has this headline:
Now how can that be possible? We can't even spend $500 we don't have without a bunch of nasty calls from the credit union:
  • Chicago Public Schools on Monday unveiled school spending plans that rely on a half-billion dollars more than the district has on hand — an approach the head of the city's principals association compared to writing a bad check.

To make the individual school budgets work, CPS is banking on help from Springfield, which has so far been uncooperative. Without that, the district said it will have to resort to "unsustainable borrowing and additional cuts" midway through the coming school year.
This would be the "Springfield" that can't even get a budget passed, despite a super-majority of democrats in charge of the purse strings and a governor playing chicken with them so he can run a whole slate of republicans against them next fall painting them all as tax-raising assholes - which they are anyway.

Of course the charter schools gain!

Quid Pro Quo for the charter operators and their allies
funding Rahm's campaign while cutting the throats of
non-charter schools in furtherance of Rahm's revenge
against CPS teachers for "sticking it" in HIS ear by going
on strike.

A fight HE picked but never you mind...

Watch the money.

American schools always waste or mismanage at least 50% budgets, and they still offer a lousy educational product.

If we paid the CPS based on results, they would owe us money.

How about the schools start by eliminating the food they insist on trying to give the kids. The vast majority of it get thrown out which, of course, cost money too. Breakfast, lunch and then a snack all in a few hours. It's like the witch trying to fatten up Hansel and Gretel.

Here it comes, ready for it, Mayor says he can't fund the schools, because he has to make a payment to the police pension fund. Those awful police hurting the children.

The charter schools are the way of the future. They don't fall under the control of the CPS union.

All part of Rahm's plan. Slowly phase out public schools and move in Charter schools. No unions, different rules and make his friends rich all under the myth that charter schools are better.

Charters are Rahm and Rauners favorites. They're non union so they perpetuate Rahm and Rauners union busting agenda.

It's a Federal program, with Federal mandates and Federal money. Take it up with the U.S. government.

And in today's on-line
Fibune?

"CASH-CRUNCHED CHICAGO SCHOOLS MISS
CHANCE TO FILE CLAIM AGAINST BANKS"

Hmmm...
Rahm al-Ghoul choosing not to bite the hands
of the people who provided a not inconsiderable amount
of money to buy him a second term so they can loot the
taxpayer till via these bad financial vehicles David Vitale
et al have managed to lock CPS into?

Windows rolled up and sittin' in the hot sun...

Rahm has a plan?

Crying foul because he was forced to make the teachers whole?

"Gimme $500 Million of what I just had to pay ya...
I'll get it back to ya with interest."

Say it jus like the street-mooks we detest:
"Huh?"

We wonder what he's cooking up with Doctuh Dean "I'm Shitting
On You Guys To Get My Kid Promoted" Angelo to avoid making
that balloon payment to our pension?

Is there anybody anywhere within the hierarchy with their conscience, soul and honor
functioning and actually intact?

And now you can add Urban Prep, with their "100% college acceptance rate", to the list...they just became members of the Chicago Alliance of Charter Teachers and Staff.
