- In an unusual move, Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy sent a letter to the rank-and-file Wednesday saying he will move to fire an officer for allegedly lying to investigators about his involvement in an off-duty shooting.
McCarthy is asking the Chicago Police Board to terminate Officer Francisco Perez, who fired at the wrong car after witnessing a fatal drive-by shooting Nov. 5, 2011, according to investigators.
Police sources said McCarthy isn’t seeking to fire Perez because of his mistake — but because he gave investigators false information.
If you are found to have deliberately lied during the course of an investigation, you have to be prepared to pay the piper. We get that. It's kind of spelled out in the Rules and Regulations. But it's also a fact that those Rules have been bent so many times as to be meaningless in so many situations and is applied unequally across the board.
We don't know whyGarry Mr McCarthy is singling out this incident for the media to make hay out of. Something smells rotten here but we can't put our finger on it.
In the meantime, in the interest of truthfulness and not lying, a series of questions for a certain someone:

When someone reads the media account of an incident and then learns the truth and real account of the incident it tends to make me think that the reporters are just not real journalists. They ( or their editors) just do not want to tell the correct story, but to tell something that they feel is sensational and will cause an emotional reaction in people. This poor guy who was abused by the police and framed was now just trying to turn his life around when he was gunned down is a much better story then the one I just read.

They always have been. Old school and know how to tcb. Those people in Niles can be proud and feel safe and like you said,would work along side them without in a second.
What about all the bosses with rule 14 violations. By some estimates its at least 60, that includes Sgts and above. Yet we have POs at call back not being let back on the street for the same violations.

I know the majority of us here don't like the Revenuers or Metermaids or parking enforcement whatever the hell their name is...and that Guy on Bike notwithstanding does give out some solid heads up from time to time.
You walk into their house...and demand a ticket be non-suited "Because " it was your bosses vehicle? You got to be a moron of Epic levels to not think that it might not be a good idea.
I don't care who your clout is. Or who you have a phone call into. 30 Finance people just watched you commit at least 3 rule violations. And didn't the IG make a couple of examples out of Finance and CPD employees last summer for doing stupid shit?
