More "Fire Garry" Calls

  • The calls to relieve Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy of his duties, including from Crain's editorial board, are right on time. His tactics haven't been the miracle cure for the city's violence we all desperately wished them to be. So our response is to fire the superintendent so we can live in denial for another four years about the possible impact any policing tactics will have on Chicago's endemic problems with violence.

We are stuck in a cycle in which we love the new superintendent until we realize that his new idea is not really new, nor effective, at stemming the social ills that cause the violence in Chicago. It is not surprising, because the idea is designed only to lower violence numbers just enough that everyone is happy with the results.

I am far from a McCarthy supporter. I do think we need to replace him. But my assessment is based on real-world expectations. I understand that the real impact of policing tactics on the violence in Chicago is small. Chicago's police are an important part of the solution, but our continued practice of throwing all of our eggs in that basket always will end in failure.
Crain's is really getting into this push. Perhaps the long weekend is going to be the make-or-break of McCompStat's tenure? He's a convenient lightning rod for Rahm - as long as everyone is blaming Garry's efforts, they aren't blaming Rahm's gutting of the Department and the wholesale efforts to drive morale into the gutter.

I want him gone too. But still, policing methods are over. Its over. Policing is a thing of the past. Everything cops do is wrong. The media attacks the police when they take action. The only thing you should be doing proactively if you're a cop is covering your own ass.

The supe position should be elected! All Mayors of Major cities will not let any police work be accomplished because it offends someone.

New york, Baltimore ,Chicago all in crap due to mayors thinking policing is politics.

Police brutality
Corruption
Racial Profiling
Illegal searches

Tell me what clouted white shirt has the answer to all this crime with manpower at an all time low? So many clouted with paper mill college degrees and little street smarts many using their office secretaries to come up with strategies to solve crime. (CAPS is DEAD... yep that commander has a degree in 14)

Gary still thinks those stats matters we live in the age of video any goof can post something and a riot or lawsuit will spring forward! I also want to thank the FED for the antler picture from a decade a go.

Dont ever trust one they are not above shaming you if their case blows.

SCC. like you I'm no fan of McCarthys but he does have a point that he made this morning on all the TV news programs People illegally using guns should stay in jail until their court date.

Judges should ignore Prickwrinkle and hold the self proclaimed Sovereign Moors arrested for squatting in foreclosed homes since they claim the law does not apply to them. Yes we need a strategy - but we néed a judicial system not afraid of locking these types of crooks up

Just remember, the big guy himself, and May Rahm have insight into the big picture that we lack. Garry has knowledge of NYPD methods of policing that may yet turn the tide.

Wait until the blood is knee deep in the streets, then fire him.

Nothing will change whether it is Garry or the next political clown, so Garry should at least be used as a scapegoat.

Crain's isn't seconding their nomination for McCarthy to be an ex-Supt. It's an editorial by a liberal jackass:

Tracy Siska is executive director of the Chicago Justice Project, a nonprofit organization focused on justice system transparency in Chicago. He also is a visiting professor in the Department of Criminal and Social Justice at the University of St. Francis in Joliet.

Not that he isn't correct, but be more accurate.

Strategy for the Holiday Weekend? AVOID Chicago at all costs.

Too much noise on possible terrorist attacks, but much more importantly, if something goes down, is there enough cavalry left to come save the day? Sorry, but I don't think so.

I would heed the advice of Gen. George S. Patton (From the grave) and double up on handguns, triple up on ammunition, and throw a rifle or shotgun in the trunk.

Protect yourself, then you can protect others.

This weekend has everyone at City Hall, and so the Department, running around like their hair is on fire. High ranking police officials called down to the 5th floor with other movers and shakers. Everyone will be "out there" this weekend. We will not have a repeat of the record breaking numbers we had last year!

It's a shorter weekend and there is only one night of fireworks downtown, so it's unlikely we will set a new record. They have even thrown in a couple of neighborhood fireworks shows to keep the numbers downtown lower so as not to embarrass the two Emperors without clothes.

Seems to me that with all the money thrown in for extras, and the money wasted on overtime, we could have hired a whole lot of extra police officers that worked the whole year.

McCarthy SHOULD be fired. But not for the level of crime in Chicago. He should be fired for assisting in the downsizing, demoralizing and destruction of the CPD. He is nothing more than a hatchet man and mouth piece for Rahm. The "people" that should be held accountable for crime in Chicago are the people that commit the crime in Chicago, something that the judicial system, the politicians and the newsmedia here are loathe to do. You can talk tactics, prevention, deployment and staffing levels all you want but until the mindset of certain communities is changed, nothing else will change no matter who sits in the Superintendents chair.

Would it really matter in Rahmmie the Commies Communist-Run Chiraq? Both Rahm and McCarthy need to go. Otherwise Rahm will just replace McCarthy with yet just another Communist Tool. Think about it. Rahm hired this rube, who's only real claim to fame was being a rowdy drunk who carelessly and recklessly shot out streetlights in Jersy, then fought with Cops who responded and were just doing their jobs. This is the best Chicago can do? What a Joke.

Crains did not fire a " second salvo". I read the opinion piece by a college professor from Joliet. To me, hardly a ringing condemnation of McCarthy, but an acknowledgement that the superintendent of police, any superintendent of police, and the police themselves have little impact on the crime rate in Chicago, and probably any other city. The acknowledgement that there are other causes and it is about time we face them and stop blaming the police is a refreshing and truthful insight.

A cagey successor might audit the crime reports during this administration thereby creating a much higher base from which her/his numbers would be gauged in the future. If games were played with the numbers, this tactic might buy a couple of million dollars worth of salary for the next girl/guy

I think McDummy feels his seat getting very, very warm and realizes he could be a bad 4th of July weekend away from getting tossed.
So that's why he wants " all hands on deck", working 12 hour shifts, some having RDO's cancelled etc. Hope everyone remembers to wear their long sleeved shirts and ties to cover the tattoos and screw those heavy, akward crown caps on.
McDummy has a shitty way of saying "happy Fourth of July" to the troops.

With today's police policy of stand down and no truth in sentencing within the court system. It really makes no difference who the top cop is. The entire system is broke! You can have the national guard patrol the streets and certain parts of the city the shootings and homicides will continue. There is no more fear of the police. No more fear of mom & dad. If there is a parent in the household? No more fear in a God. It has become the Wild West. What ever happens, they will continue to blame the police for their actions or lack of action.

It is not McCarthy's fault that Chicago Police Officers failure to intervene has caused the violence to balloon out of control. This listening tour should have been orchestrated months ago, so citizens and the victims of thugs, criminals and then the police can advise McCarthy of exactly what is going on in Chiraq because he definitely can not tell by the incident reports not taken or the incident reports written so that the victim becomes the criminal and just be co-oincdence is employed and workking while the real criminal is on welfare or has no visible means of living.

Why do they want to fire the man for doing the job that he was hired to do? The mayor wanted a stooge to do his dirty work. He fit the qualifications and is enjoying his job. He does what Rahm and others in power tell him to. He seems to be doing a very good job of taking care of the clouted and ruining the lives of the not so "gifted" (:-) workers! What more could you ask for in a well paid egotistical stooge?
