Time to Move This Parade, Too
- Two people were stabbed and at least two others were robbed during post-Pride Parade mayhem in the Boystown area Sunday night and early Monday morning.
CWB estimates that 17 people were arrested while the parade was in progress and at least 20 more were arrested in the hours following the event. (Late Monday, Chicago police announced that they made 52 arrests in connection with the Pride Parade, a 20‰ increase over last year, according to the Windy City Times. )
So now, Crime is Down!
Except murders, which are in fact up.
And shootings, which are up.
And parade violence, which is up....mostly on the northside it seems.
The CrimeInBoystown blog has a play-by-play of the mayhem, running well into Monday morning. Time to move it downtown, put it on the clock, and start charging the parade organizers for security, police, TMA's and clean-up...if they aren't already.

some parades celebrate a holiday, or ethnic pride, others commemorate victory at war, or independence... this one is about the type of sex some people like.
CWB is a decent website, but they edit all their public posts, and if you say anything that they don't like, they never post it. I stopped reading their website, or making comments, because they only publish probably 10%. SCC on the other hand, is a great website who actually likes a dialogue and know how to function a site right. Thank you SCC.
Didn't the United States Supreme Court find that they have a Right to Gay Prides Parades? It is clear as day, right next to the enumerated rights for Homosexual Marriage (Obergefell) and Sodomy (Lawrence v. Texas) in the 14th Amendment.

In the video from the CWB website, where the driver was taken out of car, what if anything were those policewomen doing? They should have been watching the crowd in case someone decided to lob something at the CPD/CFD who were removing the driver. They should have been facing the first mope that was pushed down and away from the car. If you don't jump in to help then don't stand around to be a spectator.
Billing the organizers is a great idea. Then maybe the city can recoup the cost of bud billiken too. But if that's the case, there would be no bud billiken "parade". Hmmm. I like where this is going.

I do however say move the parade to Grant Park if for no other reason than it would be a direct slap in the face of Tom Tunney.

The bars and restaurants on Lincoln Avenue, up and down Clark Street and all around the neighborhoods make so much money from this parade. They will never put this parade in downtown.

As a citizen this is outrageous the length of time on pending calls. Some up to 4 hours. The media needs to pick this up. The suicidal person was over an hour.

Never worked a pride parade and never will. Everyone else's rights are to be respected and heard except for police. If you want to be gay, or born that way, good for you. Whatever you do in your private life is your business, legally speaking. I don't support gay rights, nor am I against them. But, I am against the agenda and the willingness to bend for 2% of the population. To go and protect people for a cause I don't believe in, especially with looming terrorist threats and the anti-police sentiment being pushed, is foolish. Their lives are not more important than mine. I'm going home to my family. Times have changed. Do not be the mindless drone the department and citizens expect you to be. We have discretion, use it. Do your job, but don't lose your self while doing it. The only people I owe anything to is my family. I'll continue to try to protect the good people, but no more.
Northsiders love drama. Puerto Rican fest a week! The gay chamber of commerce soak up the cash and the City picks up the dime on security and cleaning the streets.
I did notice the clouted white shirts trying to downgrade all the crime. So to hell with it. Crime is up in boystown since LGBT are so sophisticated they can fight for more police just like they did for marriage.

You read the accounts of the animals (why do they come to a pride parade anyway BTW?) taunting and screaming at the police a few blocks from the station with no consequences. Anarchy after this parade. Move it downtown as you say and make it pay for max security.
I have worked every parade the city has to offer. The BS pride parade is hands down the worst. Mayhem for an entire weekend is the best way to describe it. Just utter chaos for 3 days.
This is on the politicos ... Pandering to all these voting blocks. Letting people " blow off steam". Police have to babysit the events. Shut it down and PR fest too
iT WOULD NOT BE POLLITICALLY CORRECT TO CHARGE Certain groups for security on their parades: PR, Bilikan, Pride. It can only be done with southside irish and maybe the polish parade. I would say no extra police at all and see what happens then put the video on the late news. Open peoples eyes to what really happens during these events.I worked them all in my 35 years and none of them were fun for me, stress, injury, and a few occasions near death, namely in Humboldt Park.

B. General observation, put together over years -- really professional security always has people in the teams who keep their backs turned to the principals and WATCH THE SURROUNDINGS. I have seen film of "dignitary arrivals," etc. from all over the world, and it is seldom that you see this. Everyone wants to see the Important People, listen to the speech, etc. Human nature, hard habit to break, but must be un-learned to effectively protect others and confront possible threats.
Even just 2 people back-to-back got 360 degrees coverage & can still communicate with each other.
Street characters walk backwards yellin at things all the time. They manage. >grin<
Not busting balls or MM quarterbacking here, just trying to keep an important tactic in the light, offer constructive suggestion.

I proudly marched in the Michigan Avenue St.Jude Parade for the majority of my career. Was it covered well by the Media? NO! Was it attended by the mayor of Chicago? NO! Was it absolutely awe inspiring [not the watered down "awesome" of today's language], YES! The spectacle of the CPD'S proudest, in full glory, and the then mind numbing, huge number of members would bring tears to our eyes. Tourists would ask, "what's up"? Citizens would not show or even know that it existed. But we knew! It was for our fallen MOS heroes. And that was was what counted! And, it would end at Holy Name Cathedral where members of all faiths could all pray for the lives that were given while protecting the citizens of the City of Chicago. Am I denigrating the Police memorial? NO! Should the the St. Jude March be on Michigan Ave, right through the HEART of the city. A resounding YES!!!
The Southside irish parade shut itself down. Had nothing to do with the city.
Isn't it odd that these shootings are so high in places were a legal gun owner can not get a permit to carry ?. I have carried for 40 years, I shoot and train all the time and fire between 2000 to 5000 rounds a year and I go to every school I can find to learn if I can afford it, yes I admit I do skip the ones that charge 2 grand for a 4 hour course because they are not effective. I know people are all paranoid about legal gun owners being armed, but I think it's time to allow it in Chicago.

So it's legal for two guys to marry. Obviously this is not natural. Because if it was mankind would cease to exist. Since two same sex people can't procreate. So that being said what's next? Can someone appeal to the Supreme Court their ability yo marry a dog or a cat or monkey if they so choose. I mean who are we as a society to discriminate against them?

And you know what Ald Tunney thinks how?
He wanted the parade in downtown this year, but because the Mayor didn't win outright planning for the parade basically stopped because Tiny Dancer didn't want to piss off the LGBT whatever crowd by announcing the city was moving their pet parade.
Things will onlyget worse/there is no turning back/ but it's to be expected /because life is just a party and parties weren't made to last
