What Life is Worth in the Hood
- A Calumet Heights man shot and killed his longtime friend over the July Fourth weekend because the pal touched his Cadillac, Cook County prosecutors said Tuesday.
John Watley was angry that Anthony Strong and others were touching his car Sunday, so he went back inside his home in the 9200 block of South Harper Avenue, returned with a machete and told everyone to get away from his ride, Assistant State’s Attorney Enrique Abraham said.
Most of the crowd walked away from the parked vehicle but 48-year-old Strong, who had been drinking with Watley and other neighbors earlier, started drumming his fingers up against the Cadillac, Abraham said.
Watley, 58, went back inside his house.
When Watley came back outside, Strong continued drumming on Watley’s car, Abraham said.
“Mother——, you keep messing with me,” Watley yelled before he fired at the friend he had known for over 40 years, Abraham said.
A bullet went straight to Strong’s chest.
As Strong’s wife came to his aid, Watley allegedly said, “Let that mother—— die.”
In the defense of the accused, it was his car after all.

On San Francisco murder on pier -- SF's mayor is male, Ed Lee. I must have heard his "spokeswoman" blowing this off as a "gun accident."
Facts remain the same, and there is a tremendous stink being raised about this from both sides of the aisle -- even Clinton, Feinstein, Boxer, other Democrats are complaining.

There have been recent academic studies that indicate most of the homicides in black communities are not drug related, but the settlement of personal disputes that result out of the neighborhood informal justice system. It is a mindset, a lot of it formed by way too many people in prison, some formed by distrust of the police and legal system, and then just throw in plain old ignorance and substance abuse. Not much the police can do about that. It would take another generation, at least, and that is if you start now. I don't see the democrats who are in control doing anything new so don't expect any changes anytime soon.

He apparently went into the house once, got a machete, and came out waving it and yelling. Then he went back into the house, got a gun instead, and came back out again and let fly.

Nothing better to do than sit waiting and watching all day long for someone, anyone to dump their own jump-right-out-of-your-skin craziness on. Even kill someone you've known for 40 years, for "touching a car." This one was like the two got into a death dance that neither of them could stop.
It's a pathology. Police can't fix it, they can only try to contain it.

I long retired, but worked homicide decades ago. I heard the same excuses for murder back then. Just goes to show you the mentality has not changed in decades and I really do not think that it ever will. And, that is sad. Yes, just drop many more millions into the black community for job programs and drug programs. This give the political class more money to pay themselves in wages and benefits for these phony useless programs. Look at Dorthy Brown and her husband, they got over a million and have nothing to show for it.The daughter of Rev. Wright, the niece of Congressman Davis and the former police chief and her husband from Country Club hills. " I am My Brother's Keeper" buys a lot of cars and new homes and vacations for the connected, but nothing for the poor.

Owner gets cuffed and hauled off for murder, the whole block knows it. There were probably subsequent fistfights, etc. as a dozen people tried to steal that lousy car at the same time. If there's no one else in that house, it'll get emptied out too.
